I just don't see how a first time Head Coach is going to beat Saban. And the first time this staff has all worked together.
And that's not even taking into account the fact that we are more talented across the board.

Probably not, but don't underestimate USC's talent. They were the last great dynasty in college football before us and they just might want their throne back. On paper, we should win, but SC is one of a select few schools like LSU and Notre Dame that can at the very least come close to matching our talent. If we approach this game like they are Wiskey or Va Tech, we will get an L for our troubles.

Do the coaches have the entire scrimmage scripted as far as who gets reps when? Or will they adjust who spends more time with the 1s as they see how each guy is playing?
I think it could be very telling who the QB is that takes the field with the 1s the last time they are out there.

They are still trying to rebuild from NCAA sanctions. They also run a pro style offense, which is the offense Saban's defense was built to stop.

Depth is a definite problem for USC.

Saw on their site that Browne has been throwing a lot of interceptions in practice and that Darnold is the one most of them want to start.

Yes each qb will get looks with the one with a certain amount of touches.

Watching the quarterbacks, redshirt junior Cooper Bateman started the drills with the wide receivers by throwing a ball into the turf well behind Calvin Ridley. That happened on a couple of occasions, but the oldest of the four scholarship quarterbacks did deliver a dime to tight end Hale Hentges, who was running a corner, toward the end of the viewing period.

I'll be glad when the word "dime" isn't used in reference to football.

You know, and the scrimmage will decide a lot of things, but I still get the feeling that Bateman ends up taking the first snap, regardless of how the rest of the season plays out under center.

We'll see, but it's just a feeling.

Bateman is the safe pick, and I expect him to take the first snap against the Trojans with a very safe offensive package. Lots of runs, screens, short throws to the TE, etc.

Depending on how the game goes, I think one of the young guys will get some snaps too. At this point, it seems like it might be Hurts. I'm also starting to wonder about BB8...I know he's just a RS freshman but he came in January 2015, so if he isn't making a move at this point, you have to wonder if he ever will with Hurts, Tua, etc in the pipeline. Scrimmage tomorrow will likely decide a lot.

Ideally, I think Bateman starts early and we take care of business the first two games even if it's boring and bring along one of the young guys who can be more of a playmaker. Then by the OM game the young guy takes over for Bateman and helps to another title run.

Trust me Bateman did not have a good practice today. I was told it's like he was trying out for JV. But hey let's see what tomorrow brings.

Sadly, I don't think this will matter.

The last 3 QB battles was won by the oldest guy. I doubt the trend stops now.

If Hurts starts, how long will it take before a local donut shop offers a Hurts Donut?

I'm not one to second guess, but I honestly think the whole start the season safe and risk averse has something to do with it taking us a while to get things going the last few seasons.

I know, first world problems, but at some point pick the kid who has been making plays and lets roll.
