Ok so, based on the leanings of people who seem to have some idea of what is going on (just me reading all the various message boards)
HC - Nick Saban
OC/QB - Steve Sarkisian
RB - Lance Taylor
WR - Butch Jones
TE - Joe Pannunzio
OL - multiple candidates
ST - Jeff Banks
DC - ? (Tosh interviewing w/ Browns?)
LB - Pete Golding
DL - Kool (for now)
DB - Karl Scott
Any word on Tosh or the DL situation? To me it sounds, from reading between the lines, that Tosh may leave for the NFL but not until after signing day.
If we hired a solid, veteran DC, kept Golding to keep learning and hired a solid OL coach I'd feel pretty good about that staff (assuming we didn't turn it all over again next year).

Golding is the DC we want. Aggressive, physical, and dominated at the point of attack through creative stunts on the Dline.
The browns legitimately want a power 5 DC, both names I've seen have been college DC's, including Tosh.

I agree but I also think he's very young and raw and it wouldnt be the worst thing to have him co-coordinate with a solid veteran DC for a year or two before getting the whole show.
Especially if he truly called the defenses the entire 2nd half of this season as is heavily rumored, because there was definitely some immaturity there.

I saw that rumor, but my understanding was that Tosh still called the plays, Golding was basically doing the majority of the game planning and that was part of the disconnect. (this is something I doubt Boz would even know, but I would love to hear if it's true that Tosh was literally just a figurehead at DC for the latter part of the season)
Honestly I would be for Golding being the guy, not having to deal with Tosh and let fully implement what he wants, because those defenses he produced at UTSA were awesome.
Also he will just leave if we frick him by bringing in someone else to call plays over him, why wait two more years when big programs will offer you the DC gig every year?

I could definitely get on board with that.
I think Saban knew from day 1 the Tosh thing was a pretty big shot in the dark and that it might not work on the coaching side. He just couldn't afford to lose his recruiting. If Saban thinks Golding has the makeup to run our defense now I most definitely trust that.
I love the idea of a more targeted aggressiveness ala Pruitt.

I anticipate Saban staying with this years' model of the OC and the QB coach being 2 different individuals.
The Special Teams Coordinator is the one who does double duty. Jeff Banks does/did TEs and STs.

For sure, I would understand us hiring someone with more experience and accepting that the Golding/tosh duo was a failure and pressing reset. I just can't think of a way that hiring over Golding leads to anything other than him getting out of Dodge as fast as he can after dealing with the triumvirate that was Saban/Tosh/Himself this season.

I think this depends on who is available to coach QB's.

I generally thought that too but I cant imagine having Sarkisians skillset as a QB coach not used......and I'd be rather shocked if he came just to be a QB coach.
Maybe a similar Co-OC setup where he is heavily involved in game planning?

Yea obviously if we did 2 separate OC/QB wed lose a spot there. But it doesnt sound like Banks or Pannunzi are on the chopping block, we are bringing Butch back.......so does that leave Taylor out? Do we still have a spot free there?

JMO but that was a special deal for Mike and Dan only. Steve is a QB where Mike wasn't thus Dan took the honors. Joe falls back to what he did before and Butch does what he did and Taylor returns to RB's as he did at Stanford. Banks has only to handle ST's and kickers so the kickers should keep him busy.....as usual.

Saban went on and on last year about the benefits of a dedicated QB coach, how it's great for X and Y reasons, and how it's the NFL model and gives each group specialized coaching. I'd be absolutely floored if he went back on that for a dedicated STs coach, which is the only other option.
We'll definitely have a QB coach next year.

You have a QB coach in Sark if he is hired. You didn't with Mike.

I think we will for the offseason before 2020 when the big QB battle happens. We can get away with Sark being the QB coach this year, in fact I think that he would do a great job this next year.
Also If any group needs a specialized coach, it's our kickers and punters...

Cleveland .........The Browns have hired former Cardinals defensive coordinator Al Holcomb as linebackers coach / run game coordinator, per multiple reports
not sure this was the position Tosh was up for.

I could be wrong like some on here but Tosh jumping up and down on the sideline trying to make last minute adjustments that seemed to do nothing but confuse the D leads me to believe Tosh was calling the plays
