Why is Freeze a good hire? He's a highschool coach who was an OC in college football for 1 year before being made into the HC who then bolts for Ole Miss as a HC where he does what exactly?

Is he going to teach our QB how to bounce balls off defenders heads, throw balls with a toe still behind the line of scrimmage and make the opposing team fumble a lot?

Because nothing in his offenses were actually impressive to me. RPO's are ok, but really they are for the teams that need it when it comes to running them in bulk. It's not the kind of shite you want to rely on.

McElwain frustrated the piss out of me. I do not get the love affair some people have with him. He ran the ball well I understand, but the other play he ran was outside screens over and over and then hoping Julio could make a play. That was our offense the majority of the time he was here.

I see people wanting a passing game all year long and at the same time I see people wanting to hire McElwain. I do not get it.

Who will Alabama's defensive coordinator be?
al.com
quote:

It's understandable if you're still wondering who Alabama's defensive coordinator will be next season as the school has yet to announce a replacement for Jeremy Pruitt, who left to become Tennessee's head coach.

The expectation, though, is Pete Golding, who was hired in December, will at the very least be co-defensive coordinator, according to sources.

The biggest question regarding Golding, whose role has yet to be announced by Alabama, is which position group he will coach.

The former Texas-San Antonio defensive coordinator is an ex-college defensive back who has strictly coached defensive backs position group-wise, but Nick Saban believes Golding can also coach inside linebackers.

If Alabama fills its remaining defensive staff opening with a defensive backs coach, Golding will likely coach inside linebackers. If an inside linebackers coach is hired, Golding will probably coach defensive backs.

It could follow a trend as Pruitt, Kirby Smart and Kevin Steele all coached inside linebackers for at least part of their time as the Tide's defensive coordinator despite both Pruitt and Smart being defensive back guys that had previously never coached inside linebackers.

Some of the coaches in the mix for that position are former Tide graduate assistant and current West Virginia cornerbacks coach Doug Belk, North Carolina defensive backs coach Terry Joseph and Ole Miss co-defensive coordinator and defensive backs coach Jason Jones, a Tuscaloosa native who played at Alabama. All three have interviewed for the job during the last week, per sources.

Saban has been talking to more than just secondary coaches, though.

He interviewed Michigan inside linebackers coach Chris Partridge last week and, according to reports, offered Partridge Alabama's inside linebackers coach job. However, Partridge reportedly decided to turn the job down.

Saban has also interviewed former Memphis defensive coordinator Galen Scott, who coached linebackers at Memphis but is now the safeties coach at Virginia Tech.

The last two years we played them under his watch, they averaged 36.3 points against us. Who else has had that much success against us in consecutive years besides johnny football?

Good read on Hugh Freeze
LINK
quote:

If Hugh Freeze has the opportunity to work for Nick Saban, he should take it.

It shouldn’t matter if the nature of the two's meeting in Tuscaloosa Monday, as first reported by the Tuscaloosa News, centered on Freeze becoming Alabama’s next offensive coordinator, a position coach or just an off-field staff job that has him analyzing film and doing grunt work on Saturdays. Freeze should accept the position, immediately.

Because the best thing that would have ever happened to him and his career is if 10 years ago Freeze had gone to work for Saban and learned what it takes to run a major college program at the highest level. He might have been able to avoid some of the mistakes he made at Ole Miss had that been the case.

Ole Hugh is a piece of work for sure but you have to give the man his due on being able to score points on Alabama. He hung points on Pruitt and Kirby twice.

Check out where those drives started most of the time and the circumstances around them.

They were constantly given short field position and then they were scoring points on plays like when Chad Kelly had his toe behind he line of scrimmage making the defender choose the wrong guy, and poorly thrown balls turning into touchdowns because they bounced off a defenders head.

In other words - they didn't score many of those points because of coaching.

IIRC, the best defense I've ever seen was getting torched in the first half of that game in 2016. We couldn't stop them at all. Chad Kelley was carving us up.

I don’t really care about Freeze’s baggage. His personal life is his. I can’t stand the man’s philosophy. If you wanna make him passing game coordinator alone, ok, I’ll listen. The guy obviously knows his stuff on that subject. But he doesn’t know a halfback from the hole in his arse and that I can’t abide. You must have a balanced offense and be able to run the ball to have a successful offense. Period.

Ole Miss Drives:

1st Half:

7 plays 75 yards, TD. Opening drive, scripted.
3 and out
3 and out
3 and out
5 plays, 50 yards, FG - 44 yards on the 1st play.
2 plays, 80 yards, TD - 64 yard TD pass
3 and out
4 plays, End Half

Nothing more than a QB who made a couple of big plays. No sustained methodical drives. The longest was the 1st drive, but it consisted of over 2 plays with 20 yards each.

And statistically they had better drives at the end of the game in teh 2nd half. Except that Alabama was playing far back and gave them all the short passes because the game was basically over and Saban was just trying to run out the clock.

Sorry, I just don't see it.

He might be the best in CFB at scripting an opening offensive drive other than maybe Bobby Petrino.

I wouldn't know honestly.

I just want a guy who can grind out those big long methodical drives on the regular. The shite that can't be stopped.

Big plays are nice, but when we live off big plays online we get the end of the Clemson game in 2016 where we couldn't finish them out. Which speaking of Petrino - I remember seemed like we would beat him every year because he wasn't able to run out the clock with a running game at the end.

Heard today Saban is close and had probably interviewed everyone he is considering for OC.

The interesting thing to me is no one is talking about the DC.
Many think Tosh Lupoi is it but heard several DC candidates have been interviewed.

This is a big recruiting weekend for us and I’m sure they are going to ask some questions. So the next few days may be explosive and revealing.
But have you ever known CS to get in a rush?

So as far as we know, Freeze, Chip long, and maybe Locksley were interviewed for OC? According to boz, long didn't interview well. Logically this means it's maybe down to Locksley and Freeze?

Phase I might be in place. I believe at least one more coach will leave after NSD.
