If folks at the University interfere with Saban hiring Freeze, I wonder if it will give him flashbacks of the Dolphins interfering with the Drew Brees situation. Just let Saban have his way, and if it backfires, it's on him.

If it backfires in the form of Freeze getting UA in trouble with NCAA recruiting violations, it's a BIG deal. There's not much about Freeze that makes me warm and fuzzy that he has much integrity or honesty.

On the one hand, it seems Freeze would realize he's got to walk the straight and narrow from now on. But on the other hand, he apparently didn't bother to do so even after OM was already under scrutiny. Slow learner, iyam.

I don't think Saban will give him enough rope to hang the University. I imagine the leash will be very short. Or at least introduce him to burner phones

I'd expect Freeze to actually be a safer hire at this point than had he not been caught by the NCAA and just been fired for paying for a few massages.

I agree. Let Saban do as he pleases . He has earned that right and responsibility that goes with it.

I get that it's arguable Freeze may deserve an opportunity to redeem himself. But hiring him will cast some degree of negative "win at any cost" stigma on UA. Will it have any adverse impact in the minds of some recruits or their parents?

Also, none of us seem to know who inside the program doesn't like the idea. It could be UA higher ups, compliance, other coaching staff, some players or all of the above. For all we know there may be a lot of dissention about it.

The crux-question in my mind is this: Does Freeze really offer such great and unique talents that it's worth it?

You think there isn't already a "win at any cost" stigma on UA? I feel like people already think that.

I'm not worried about perception. You get ready for a few days worth of backlash and then it goes away when the next story hits.

Sure there is some, but I think it's diminished a lot in the recent years that we haven't had any significant issues with NCAA compliance.

Hugh Freeze is hardly the only passing game savant out there that we can hire.

This was also being thrown around when Saban got hired. People were saying that his contract was outrageous and stuff like that.
Hiring Freeze isn't without risk, but it's a risk that Saban seems comfortable with.

I figure a key part of Saban's thinking on "rehab" hires is that in their desperate situations, they'll bust their asses to do a great job. With his power to help them resurrect their careers, he essentially has them by the balls.

Saban sent a pretty strong message when he slammed the door into Kiffin's arse for not "finishing" well on his way out. Now Lane's somewhat stuck at FAU as a result.

I agree with that. If they mess up this chance, it would really screw them. If they do well with their opportunity and Saban gives them a good recommendation, then their past is pretty much forgotten. If they screw it up, then they might be finished.

Lane Kiffen on guitar and vocals
Steve Sarkisian on Drums and beer bottles
Hugh Freeze on bass and cellphone

Actually, I must admit Saban's prior "rehab" hires haven't backfired too badly. Besides, I really have no say or choice other than to just accept his judgement and go with flow.

I wonder how well Freeze can avoid and take arse chewings?

I want to see Freeze get his arse chewed so bad. That's the main reason I want him on the staff, I'm not gonna lie

The difference in Freeze and Saban’s previous rehab hires is none of his previous ones had real NCAA issues. They had personal demons but no compliance issues. Freeze is a different animal with a lot bigger problems. And had the stupidity or ignorance to act bulletproof and dare the NCAA and rivals to catch him. They did.

As an analyst freeze wouldn't be allowed to recruit...He would be in a very limited role.if he were a coordinator it would be more risky.
