Just to get an idea how each team performed against various competition in a total sense.

My take away is that I have wrongly put the 2012 team over the 2011 team - the 2011 team is the best and most dominant Saban team of the era. And that's with it's defensive nature that lowers spreads between Offense and Defense Scoring/YPP than a higher scoring team with a good defense.

Another takeaway is how much it sucks that the 2016 team couldn't finish that Clemson game off. They would have absolutely been in greatest team of all time conversations.

Finally, the 2015 is the GOAT. Under no circumstances should they have won the national title (especially with their schedule). They made all the plays that mattered post-Ole Miss. Probably had the least room for error and just found a way.

2016 is the lost ring. If we finish that Clemson game we end the year

- 15-0

- National Champs (back to back)

- SEC Champs

- Wins over :
> (N) #2 Clemson
> (N) #3 USC (by 42)
> (N) #4 Washington (by 17)
> @ #13 LSU (by 10)
> (N) #14 Florida (by 38)
> @ #22 Tennessee (by 39)
> #24 Auburn (by 18)

7 Top 25 wins by an average of 20+, 1 of them at home

That one didn't bother me that much at the time, but every year it bothers me a little bit more

Yeah, I wholeheartedly agree. The 2015 team is still the only national champion in history (during the poll era) that has 12 quality wins (wins against a team that finished with a winning record) and they played against 13 bowl teams; they played the toughest schedule in the nation that year and it wasn't close. If we had beat Ole Miss that year, they'd have an argument as one of the best of all time...but then again, that loss to Ole Miss may have been what kickstarted their run...

I'd still take the 2012 team over 2011. There's just no way I can tell how great that 2011 defense was. The best FBS team in total offense they faced that year was Arkansas at #29; I think the next best was Mississippi State at #84. It's no wonder that when asked, Dont'a Hightower said that Georgia Southern was the best offense they faced that season. Don't get me wrong, they might've been great, I just can't tell due to their schedule...

I absolutely agree - I hate saying it because it sounds sacrilegious, but they literally played 1 competent passing team the entire season : Arkansas. That's it.

Knowing what we found out in 2012-2014 about how our previous body types fared against spread out passing teams, I'm not sure what somebody like Oklahoma State would have done to us.

I'd probably say 2011, 2012 and 2016, and I might fall towards 2016 - which is funny because they didn't even win the title.

Watson and the little white receiver!!! He plays for the Raiders now and I still want him to get his head knocked off on every play. Little prick

It's 2015 to me, primarily due to the schedule they faced...and then I'd have 2009 and 2012 close behind. That 2012 OL was the best I've ever seen...

The fact 2011 is at the top of all these list despite having an average at best offense tells you how good that defense was.

If I was ranking my favorite teams of the Saban era

1. 2008 Regular Season + 2009 SECCG/Title Game (nothing in my life will top going into Athens, Knoxville and Baton Rouge and letting them know we were back + breaking the streak by winning 36-0; and nothing will top the 2009 SECCG - ever)
2. 2015 (my favorite pure team ever - went to SECCG/Cotton/Playoff Title game and probably my best experience ever with Alabama football)
3. 2014 (Should have lost 4 games and won the SEC Title, Blake Sims da gawd)
4. 2016 (what could have been)
5. 2012 (Screen to Yeldon, SEC Title game, ND Beatdown)
6. 2011 (winning the title post-tornado)
7. 2017 (the season honestly sucked but it had the best half of all time given the moment)
8. 2018 (mainly due to the last one)
9. 2019 (totally empty 11-2 season, 1st world problems)
10. 2013 (Kick 6 + Oklahoma game)
11. 2007 (Arkansas and Tennessee were awesome; State/ULM was awful; FSU made me want to gouge my eyes out)
12. 2010 (just not much good there - even the awesome Florida win turned out to be bleh as they sucked; Penn State at BDS was a lot of fun)

I would say that 2016 was our best team. If Tua were a little older....

2010 team was better than the 2009 team, but they managed to lose 3 games that year.

It takes a bit of luck, especially with injuries to make it all happen.

The 2009 team went undefeated and had wins over #2 Texas, #3 Florida, #10 Virginia Tech, #17 LSU and #20 Ole Miss.

The 2010 team lost 3 games (#1 Auburn, #8 LSU, #22 South Carolina) and their best wins were #12 Arkansas, #14 Michigan State and #15 Mississippi St.

The only thing the 2010 team had was more talent, but even that isn't entirely true due to the nature of its youth on the defensive side of the ball (much like this season). They didn't play as tough an overall schedule, didn't perform as well against their schedule, had less good wins and had more losses.

I mean, I mentioned they had 3 losses...

Lots of injuries that year.

2009 team was all heart.

Absolutely - though also some pretty good talent

But yea - they just refused to lose.
