How about a bi-annual stipend?
Free room and board?

The highest scholarship the university offers is full tuition for up to 4 years, one year of on-campus housing, $1000/year stipend for 4 years, $2000 one-time allowance for summer research or international study, and $2000 for books. That doesn't include anything from the individual colleges or other sources (the college of engineering matched everything the university gave me).
Those regular students on scholarship don't have restrictions on earning money from sources apart from the university.

They get world class healthcare too?
Posted on 11/21/18 at 9:08 am to TideSaint
The on-campus health center provides certain free services, but non-athletes are probably at a much lower risk of the type of injuries that athletes may require help for. If a non-athlete is on a scholarship that requires them to put their body in harm's way, I'm sure they would have some for of insurance or healthcare available to that student.

ha I figured that. im totally on board with your opinion on this

And I'm fine discussing a stipend or some sort of payment for living expenses for athletes since they can't have jobs. However, its not like normal college students work high paying jobs that pad their savings accounts. They're typically intern, retail, or service oriented jobs. Yet those students don't have the profile that college football players have coming out of college that can help them get their foot in the door for a job.

But the only reason they can't have jobs is because of the retarded NCAA rule. This isn't some federal law like certain students that are here on visas.

If a full ride athletic scholarship isn't enough, then frick them!
Even after VA benefits, I had student loans exceeding $75k
frick some entitled tard that doesn't think the value of a full ride athletic scholarship isn't worth its weight in gold.

Yeah, frick these guys for wanting to profit off the people that are willing to pay them.
Posted on 11/21/18 at 9:37 am to pvilleguru
This is stupid.
Why do you get to set a ceiling for their worth yet want to force them to pay the market rate on their expenses?
oh my, i'm sorry mr wyl e coyote super genius! i had no idea that no company, business or just plain old job did not set a payment scale in these here free markets of america. wished i had known back when i worked. i would have demanded a much higher wage. wow, come to think of it! with no set pay scale that means there is literally no amount to high to demand for your worth, wow, this is freakin genius!
then i can demand people i purchase goods from to sell them below market value. because my self worth is simply to high for me to have to pay market value on any goods.

I’m totally against the school paying players. Who decides which kids get paid and what amount? What happens when one kid gets paid more than the other kid but they have the same stats? Slippery slope that would never end.
I got a behind the scenes tour of the Georgia facilities last year through work. Met the coaches, players, got to see all the behind the scene workings. Those kids have no wants. Basically anything they want is at their disposal. I mean ANYTHING. We saw the Alabama special on tv were it showed the behind the scenes of Bama football. Lobster tails, steak, ribs every night. Opportunity for free room and board, kids going to the training room getting any type of gear they want. Free tutors. All while getting a free education.
It’s basically a internship. You come display your skills for potential employers (nfl teams) while attending college. The better you perform at your internship the more likely you’ll get a offer (drafted).
However I have no problem with players receiving money from bussinesses and companies making money of their name. You wanna sell my jersey? Fine. I want a percentage. If the kid is good enough for people to pay to rep his name let the kid get the money for that. It would also open up more opportunities for the player on an advertising level. But all that should be separate from school financials.

They are profiting. Some people are simply too stupid to realize its long term and true value.

That's all I'm asking for.

Can anyone convince me that it's fair that the University makes hundreds of millions off the players work without paying them? I know the argument that it will ruin parity in the game but with all the science coming out about CTE it seems like if we don't start paying people they won't take the risk and football will start to die off.

NCAA rules don't say they can't have jobs. In fact, they say the exact opposite. Page 70 of the NCAA Bylaws (Bylaw 12.4) lays out the guidelines. They're pretty straightforward. If it's a real job and the pay is the going rate for that type of job, you're good to go.

Far below what many of them could be making.

Hibbett Sports is selling a #2 jersey with no name on the back. Who gets the money? The two guys currently wearing #2? The guy from 25 years ago who made that number legendary and even had it as a nickname? The guy who won the Heisman and is arguably the highest profile player to ever wear it? Should all players who ever wore it have a claim?

I'm guessing you don't have a degree, because you're showing signs that you don't understand its value.
Posted on 11/21/18 at 10:03 am to FairhopeTider
If they were to change the rules, Hibbett may be able to put that name on the back, and would be able to sell more of them and at a higher price.

frick off with that shite. I understand the value of a degree. I also understand the missed profit of 4 years of a short playing career.
