Gene Stallings this past weekend. Stallings was invited to speak to the football team at Curry High School which is coached by Jeff Foshee which played for coach stallings.

I’m sure most of you know the allegations about Foshee that forced him out of coaching a few years back. I meet Foshee this summer, he wanted to speak to me about my son playing football this year. Two years ago my son was diagnosed with a heart disorder which sidelined him from playing sports. Needless to say it broke my sons heart and mine and my wife’s also.

My son is 15. 6’6” 270lbs. Foshee asked my son why he wasn’t playing and my son told him why. He goes every six months to his heart doctor for check ups. His condition hasn’t worsened sense he was diagnosed.

So I meet Foshee and we talked about it. Foshee seen my son playing basketball in the gym with his friends and was impressed with how well he moves for a young man his size. He wanted to know if it was possible for him to play. I said it’s up to his doctors but doctors are always cautious with conditions with a heart

My son is determined to play again, stubborn as a mule like his father. So we’ve talk to his doctors about this. My concern of course is his wellbeing. But my son look the doctor straight in the eye and told him this...
“Nothing can change with what’s wrong with my heart but I will not live the rest of my life in fear because of it. This will be my only opportunity to play a game that I love, and I know I will never play again after high school”

In that instance I saw my son developing into a man. I was the proudest father in the world.

So to wrap this story up, I’m happy to say he’s cleared to play with certain conditions that me and his coach have agreed too. My son will be the starting LT and will get to make a few good memories playing football in high school. He’s a 4.0 student and my dream will be him attending a institute of higher learning which he is already preparing for.

That's fantastic!

I can speak from experience here. I was born with a handicap. Took Dr's the first 7 years of my life just to figure out what was wrong. When they finally figured it out, one of the first things they told my mom and dad was, don't bubble wrap him. This disease will do what it does, regardless. So, if he thinks he can do something and it's within reason, let him have at it. Yes i still suffered, but man i got memories of a great country boy childhood also.
