It doesn't matter what you run if your players don't recognize what is happening in front of them and are out of position. What Kiffen will draw up is misdirection and confusion because we have been slow to recognize and react to basic concepts for two years now.

Key advantage of disruptive attacking D-front over mush rushing: Fast execution of some stunts/blitzes instead of waiting to read "eye candy" to make a move.

The thing with Ole Miss is - they aren't State and Leach. They will run the football if you give them run advantageous looks.

If we sync back our front is going to have to get the bell after it or Corral, Ealy and Snoop will have a field day.

We can't miss 27 tackles like we did last year either. We would have gotten them off the field 2-3 times on what ultimately became TD drives last year if our defense didn't fricking suck arse at open field tackling.

Yea, we were lost mentally, whiffing on tackles and losing our feet on the wet field.

The good news I guess is we've been pretty solid on open field tackling this season. Not great, but solid. Florida extended some plays/drives with missed tackles, but I didn't think it was a glaring issue all game like last year's Ole Miss game.

Agree - the only guy who has consistently botched tackles in the open field has been Hellams. HTT has had some issues, but Hellams is the only one who has consistently seemed to just whiff.

That is the key to stopping today’s spread offenses… can you stop the run in a nickel look. Bama has traditionally been able to do that effectively . Arky stopped them last year with the look. You can still use Anderson on the line as one end paired with Mathis, Young, Dale, Smith, Burroughs etc. It would actually keep one lineman fresh in that look . If we can’t stop the run out of any defensive look, it will be a long day. There are a lot of holes in the secondary with a four man front and LBs chasing RBs used to clear out zones . I shudder to think about us matched up with their WRs running down the field and us worried about whether they are in phase or not It has to be mixed up anyway. I have ran the 3 man or Cobra front against passing teams and it can be played as aggressive (blitz) or as passive (cover) as you want . I am a believer in it . Long term , everyday defense? Probably not but definitely in certain matchups

I agree. Run a 3-3-5 and zone pass coverage. Use quick stunts/blitzes some for quicker pressure

Agree !
If you look at the Southern Miss replay there was a possession they USM were pinned inside there 5 and it was the first time in the game were we used our base three linemen with Will Anderson.I just think we are too good ability wise up front with 48,47,50,92 to beat there man in one on one match ups.To not have 3 of them all the time.

So we may not need to stunt a lot as we seem to have collided, delayed our LB'ers reads because signals/communication got crossed.Golding saying Toto just needs to make calls and concentrate on his duties.Well if that's the case just let them do work up field and lb can read double teams and shoot that gap a few times if its there.

We need to stop the run and allow the ability of Moore and Branch on inside routes prevail.I would really like to see us play #2 or #9 in a few LB/hybrid sets assigned to the TE, with Moore at safety.
You would think its what Hellems is suppose to be mainly able to do is be hybrid.lol

I think we held the 3-3 look back against USM because we did not want to give Kiffin any looks.
I think we see a lot of the 3-3 in this game with a few safety hybrid looks with Hellems.

If not KIffin will work 8 and 10 all day with TE's motion, re sets and crosses.Truth be told maybe Moody needs to be in there as the 3rd down lb'er.

If we roll out Nickel against OM I’m just going to throw my hands up and hope for the best.

As George alluded too, we need to make the tackles while in space, play zone, keep the big plays to a minimum. If we start playing man it will either be big plays or PI or both.

On offense I would like to see us run the ball predominantly to slow The game down. Because we all know that Ole Miss will be gunning to make this a horse race.
