Some of you are more analytical then I am. So who stands out on D in these 3 areas

LB- The obvious answer to me is 31
DL-47,48, and 94
DB's this one is tough as a few have looked horrible but no one stands out.

Pressure up front always makes the job easier for the secondary and makes them look better than they might be. If Matt Corral has time, he will pick our secondary apart.

agree and we going to have to get 31 and 20 up in his grill all game long.

LB - Will Anderson, without question. Though I'll give a shout out to Drew Sanders. The dropoff from Chris Allen hasn't been as severe as I thought it'd be. He's not as quick off the line, but he's been very disruptive otherwise.

DL - I haven't watched their play all that closely, but have heard Mathis's name called a bunch. Tim Smith seems to be a budding star as well.

DB - Probably Armour-Davis. I had high hopes for Malachi Moore this year, but I haven't seen a whole lot out of him yet. Sophomore slump maybe?

I agree, Moore hasn't stood out like last year. The secondary has stood out more for penalties than for excellent plays. Hopefully they will improve and quickly, along with the entire team.

do you guys think we need to play more man D with a safety or two over the top. And who the hell is going to cover the TE over the middle. We have stunk it up all year so far

We will probably be in nickle and dime all game. And if so who is the LB to sit out

Friend and I were talking about our defense yesterday. He played college ball and was a safety. He thinks we should be running more zone because of how deficient our MLB's are in pass coverage. He cringes anytime Harris gets caught covering a RB out wide.

Most of what he was saying was over my head though.

Yep, was about to post that. This would be a perfect game to run the Arky style 3-3 defense, provided it is in our arsenal

We have the DL to run it and be effective against the run and it is so versatile against the pass and pass rush options

Kiffin will scheme up shots at our safeties and linebackers all night. Battle nor Hellams can cover anyone but they should relish this opportunity because they won’t be asked to come down hill and hit anyone.

They’re going to get open eventually, if I’m Pete Golding my plan begins and ends with blitzing the hell out of them and trying to create havoc plays. Drop 8 mush rush will get dissected if we turn to that.

Agree and disagree to an extent. The 3-3 can be very aggressive with blitzes and disguising them. Corral threw 6 picks against Arky last year. Similar to what we ran against MSU last year . Create a line with 5 across or underneath with 3 deep. Make them drive and give up FGs. They will torch us if we run man schemes all day IMO

Really hope Saban and company have been working on this hurry up style O Kiff runs since last year

I agree. Run a 3-3-5 and zone pass coverage. Use quick stunts/blitzes some for quicker pressure.

Real excited about Burroughs #98 too. Big boy looked quick as shite when he got in vs. Southern Miss.

Corral will pick us apart if we dont get in his face and it is going to take 4-5 rushing him all game long unless our stunts etc are very effective.

Do they have an experienced OL?

It doesn't matter what you run if your players don't recognize what is happening in front of them and are out of position. What Kiffen will draw up is misdirection and confusion because we have been slow to recognize and react to basic concepts for two years now.

back to a question I asked earlier. Who is the LB that sits when we are in nickle and dime. And which DB comes down to support the run. 13?

Don't know that we have the Arkansas 3-3-5 in our playbook. And really it's more of a 3-2-6 with a DB in the box.

Here's the problem with a 3-3-5 though, where does our best player, Anderson, play? Are we just putting him at end on the line? Is he standing up and playing more of an ILB role and having to cover on a significant number of snaps? Or is he on the bench with Moody in that role and 3 traditional DL? That wouldn't make sense....

I just don't think it fits our personnel super well and its not something we've ever really shown a proclivity to run.

I do think we should be looking at playing a lot of 3-2-6 dime with Harris as the only off ball ILB and Hellams playing the Money in the box. Branch/Moore taking the deep spot. 3 down lineman with Anderson on the line coming from a variety of spots. Bring Harris or Hellams for a 5 man rush often, from lots of different angles.

I think that's our best unit against Ole Miss given what I think would work from our normal playbook and what gets our best players on the field in spots they can play best in.

We will need to mix it up for sure but if ran correctly , there are not many windows to throw in and it makes you use check downs . I just hope we have got our substitution patterns down … they caught us off guard all night last year. Running a 3-3 doesn’t mean you can’t blitz

The thing with Ole Miss is - they aren't State and Leach. They will run the football if you give them run advantageous looks.

If we sync back our front is going to have to get the bell after it or Corral, Ealy and Snoop will have a field day.

Barry Odom may not have been a great head coach, but as DC at Arkansas, his scheme has been lights out. I really think CNS should look at some of the concepts they use because it is disruptive as hell to the passing game. Leaves you a little vulnerable to runs between the tackles, i.e. Spiller had a nice afternoon against the Hogs, but A&M could not move the ball through the air.
