Maybe since his hands grew 5/8 of an inch since the senior bowl he felt he didn't need to run.

Milroe's hands were measured at 8 3/4 inches at the Senior Bowl in Mobile, Alabama, 28 days ago. At the combine, his hands were approximately a half-inch longer, measuring 9 3/8 inches.

With the new figure, Milroe now measures just above that with a hand size bigger than Cam Ward (9 inches) and equal to Shedeur Sanders (9 3/8 inches), both of whom are in discussion for the No. 1 overall selection.

I forgot about all the zig-zagging you have to do running the 40. Good point.

I can tell a lot of you nerds have never played organized sports much less football. Fantasy football does not count.
He can have great straight line speed over a longer distance and still be slower in the 40 yard dash. For example, he probably has a great 100 yard dash but not so great 40 which is due to more explosive ability.
The NFL really doesn't need guys who clock great timing in the 100 yard dash. Most plays are going for much less than that.
Stick with gaming. LOL!

This is most likely the reason, I like and appreciate the love Milroe has for Alabama and the W's we got over UGA, LSU, and AU during his time...buuut most NFL guys probably think he has elite speed when most likely he's a 4.5-6 guy and he didn't want to expel his mythic elite speed.

Right and what's going on in this thread is I've pulled out all the Milroe jock washing boys who believes he's going to be a top draft pick. The whole point of these high draft pick predictions were based on the "insane measurables" he was supposed to display at the combine.
I would say not participating in any of the measured drills other than having height and weight measured which were not spectacular. He's 6'1 1/2" and 220 lbs. His hands somehow grew between the Senior Bowl and this past weekend.
He threw the ball some and it was a lackluster session.
He's going to get drafted in the third round at best.

It's a shame, because I had some "told ya so" posts bookmarked and ready to bump.

Oh well, maybe I'll just work on being a better person instead.

The term you're looking for is "top end speed" not "straight line speed."

Straight line speed is literally the speed someone moves in a straight line (e.g., a 40-yard dash at the combine).

You seem to be arguing that his top end speed might be fast (which, frankly, is not up for debate based on him being clocked at over 22 mph in games), but that he's not particularly explosive and doesn't accelerate quickly, so his 40 time is not elite.

Your argument is based on:
1. A 40-yard dash time from HS
2. Him choosing not to run at the combine
3. You being mad that all the money you donated to his NIL ( ) was "wasted"

Right he was going to turn insane measurables like Anthony Richardson. What happened?
He lost three pounds since the Senior Bowl. He's been running a lot trying to get that 40 down but couldn't quite get there.

I didn't realize we were in the presence of such an expert. Bet you even would have gone pro if you didn't have that career ending injury back in high school right? Tough luck bro.

How much time can be shaved from a 40 yard dash? You usually don't get faster with age and 40 times you're not going to shave that much time off. So he's now at 4.55, ok.

2. Him choosing not to run at the combine

Right because his 40 time is not going to be "insane"

3. You being mad that all the money you donated to his NIL ( ) was "wasted"

One penny too much.
