Obviously no one but the people in the building know exactly how much the players are getting paid, but I still am curious as to where the money went/is?

Consider last year:

1. Bama had to pay (approximately) 8 players to forego the Draft and return for their final year of eligibility. This year there is no one that would be a Day 2 Pick on this roster like the past year.

2. Bama did not have attrition from players that they actually wanted to keep (Keeley/Smith/Formby/etc), whereas last year no one of consequence left. On top of guys like Mbakwe that were taking up “cap room” that are now gone.

3. Tyler Booker was the only player to declare early for the Draft last year, whereas this year there are 4 legitimate early entrees including 1st rounders like Proctor.

4. Recruiting class was small again, with all the money concentrated on their highest 10-12 rated signees.

Considering these 4 factors, wouldn’t it suggest that Bama would have far more money to spend compared to a year ago. They were spared expenses in all 4 of these areas but it looks like the money is still tight nonetheless.

Thoughts?

We don’t really have any idea what the budget is. I’ve heard we have somewhere close to the 10th NiL, but who knows.

We were a dynasty in the era before this one. The best dynasty this sport has ever seen. The fans all remember championships and a lot of them are reluctant to spend in this new era. If it was 2007 and NiL was introduced and you told fans “we can go get Julio Jones and Trent Richardson if we all give $15 a month and we’ll win a championship” everyone would’ve hopped on it.

I have to imagine the coaches feel comfortable enough with who we have in the building to not blow the bank on a few of these guys. We’ll see if they’re right.

I believe that many players are worried about offensive and defensive philosophy. Even though our defense was better, it’s still not an nfl type defense. On offense, it takes too long to set up. I think there is money but no offensive or defensive excitement. There is a reason Grubb was fired after one season.

I'm sure Alabama had to dole out a pretty penny to retain Brooks, Carroll, Morgan, Hill & Lee for '26. Basically a lot of the guys who felt compelled to post on social media that they were resigning. Couple that with any money the staff continues to waste on Ryan Williams because they're afraid he'll go somewhere else and finally become a star and there you go.

Need some boosters to do a war chest annually for NIL.

This has leveled the playing field in recruiting vs Alabama since it started “legally”

This is the only factor to take into consideration….we know players were demanding “raises” to Coach Saban, so I’m sure the same is happening with CKD (probably worse).

Perhaps that is the crux of the problem. It’s the only one that makes sense. Bama had to spend far more money last year compared to this offseason based on the 4 factors in posted in my OP.

Maybe all the money was spent in retaining the players we already had…..I certainly hope I’m wrong.

Until Deboer is gone, Bama will continue to slide into the Shula era.

75-80% of the funds should have went to obtain offensive lineman…our leading rusher was out rushed by 4 SEC QUARTERBACKS for crying out loud!!

Indeed. I don't think it will take long into next season to assess if we are different team or if we see kind of rerun of last two years.
I'm hopeful with a new QB at the helm. (Kind of like what I was this year with Ty taking the reins).

Arm strength is at a premium in this offense, so yeah we're going to be much better with DeBoer QB recruits
