our Kicker isn't exactly Reichard.
Reichard was a career 25-35 from 40-49 yards at Alabama. He had a higher accuracy rate from 50+ (10/13, 76%). For whatever reason, he was relatively inconsistent from that 40-49, but we forget it since he was so good on the really long kicks.
Otherwise though you’re right. Don’t risk a bad snap or a blocked kickin that situation no matter how confident you are with your kicker.

When you're up 11, a kick does very little for you because it doesn't end the game. Chatting during the timeout with the family, they mentioned "oh no we've got to bring the kicker out" and I said that I actually think the smart thing to do is to not kick because:
1) Going up 14 is still a 2 score game. Sure if they score two TDs they either tie or go for 2PT to win, but realistically you can only really end this game with either a TD or a first down. They didn't have timeouts, so a 3 possession game or first down was terminal for LSU.
2) A kick has a higher risk of creating a big play for LSU (FG block TD return) than a safe throw or run from the offense.

It was a chip shot and it was 4th and 3, not 4th and 1. The difference between having to score 1 TD and a FG vs 2 TDs is very significant, especially when the LSU kicker has been very good all year (surprised he missed tonight and thank goodness he did). Saban kicks that 100 times out of 100 in that situation, and DeBoer should have too. There’s a much greater chance that we fumble the snap or toss on the play they called than a FG. It was a bad coaching decision that we got away with.

He’s made it to the Tuscaloosa county jail inmate roster.
They have an “email inmate” link. Wonder how many Roll Tides will appear in his jail messages.

The good thing is we don’t have to worry about Venables stealing signs on 1st down. We are running Jam up the middle no matter what.

They're definitely going to get into their most aggressive FG block formation. It was in makable range but I wouldn't call it a chippy. We have a QB who has done very well in these situations all season. I get what you're saying but I just think what we did was the safest and smartest decision.
