He almost had enough credits to graduate this fall. He'll be enrolled for the first Summer semester.

I don't see why not. He might not be on scholarship but as long as he can pay the tuition, there is no reason he couldn't as far as I know.

Alabama coach Nick Saban has in-home visit with Jacob Coker

quote:

MOBILE, Alabama - Alabama coach Nick Saban visited the home of former St. Paul's and
Florida State quarterback Jacob Coker on Tuesday afternoon, according to St. Paul's head coach Steve Mask.

Mask told AL.com Wednesday morning the Coker family said they could foresee an official visit to the university in the "near future."

Coker, a redshirt sophomore, has been officially released from his scholarship, according to Mask, and is on target to graduate in May. If he does, he would be eligible to play two years at Alabama, beginning this fall.

I have no idea whether or not Coker is coming.

I hope he does.

It seems like it would be a win-win situation for us and him.

But this quote makes me doubt the veracity of the report from which it comes. I know al.com is a legit source, and the quote comes from his former coach. If he graduates in May, there is no "release" to be granted; he doesn't need one; and he has no restrictions as to where he can transfer. Graduation with remaining eligibility removes the current coach's authority on the matter. You would think that between a sports reporter and a highschool football coach they would know this.

Releasing him from his scholarship allows other schools to recruit him. He is able to take official visits now. If he just waited to graduate then he could not be contacted by opposing staffs.

I'm not sure this kid is all the FSU coaches say he is, but I'm all about having another quality guy competing for the job. Should be a fun spring and summer.

It would seem a release implies he could transfer now without restriction and be immediately eligible.

Just read the rule .....that appears to be true. Even though he has been released, he must graduate to avoid sitting a year. Seems silly though, if all parties have signed off on it. The rule requires a one year acclimation proccess to the new school ( pre graduation)
