AU now claims 5. I bet we won't hear a word from anyone else regarding this. That thread on the SEC rant will just disappear I'm sure Welcome to the show Barners!

I thought they claimed these a few years ago. I did some quick research on these claims and will break them down for you.
1913 - 8-0 but southern football was universally regarded as far inferior to northern football at the time because the programs were 30 years younger than their northern counterparts. No southern team was even competitive against a northern opponent until Alabama defeated Penn in 1922 in a massive upset. Pretty ridiculous to claim a national championship as a southern team before the 1920s, especially when Harvard went undefeated that year in what was then by far the most difficult conference. Grade: D.
1983 - 11-1 and they defeated Florida, who beat the more commonly accepted champions, Miami. Auburn's margins of victory are very unimpressive, but that is pretty typical of their successful teams. They're scraping some lesser tier selectors for this, even though by this point the AP and Coaches' polls had a pretty established formula. Grade: B
1993 - 11-0 but finished ranked #4 and were not even bowl eligible or allowed on television. Completely classless and embarrassing to claim a national championship for a season where you were on severe probation, but expected and fitting for Auburn. Looking at their scores and just on the eye test, I still never believed this was an elite team. I think Florida State, Nebraska, or Notre Dame would have beaten them by multiple touchdowns. They also won at home by only three in a majorly flukey game against Florida. I definitely think they lose the rematch in the SEC championship if they had been eligible, probably by multiple scores. Grade: F.
Only Bama's 1941 claim is even in the same stratosphere as these in terms of the audacity it takes to claim it. All of these are less legitimate than if Bama claimed 1945, 1966, or 1977. I personally think Bama should drop 1941 and claim those three. They should also reinstate all wins from 1993 and 2005-early 2007.

I am pretty sure Auburn was on probation when they won a split decision between U. P. and A. P. polls in 1957. Ohio State was the other winner. They did not go to a bowl game. They were a great defensive team. Rule of thumb, if Auburn is exceptionally good look for cheating. NCAA looked at Ole Miss, and guess what they found, when they beat us back to back under Auburn's present coach. Freeze was Oher's high school coach and went with him to Ole Miss as an assistant. That whole blind side situation is interesting. The NCAA did look at it. This is off subject, but one unnamed prominent coach said Michigan should be prosecuted for stupidity for leaving a paper trail, meaning a lot of people are working on sign stealing.
