I hate seeing empty seats for nationally televised, SEC games. Students leaving early has gotten worse and out of control. Here is my solution:

1) Eliminate block seating or move it to the upper deck. The students willing to get there early enough for the lower bowl seats are more likely to stick it out. Those are the true fans. If people want to sit together in the lower bowl, go together and snag a spot.

2) Swipe IDs for any student leaving before 4th quarter. Have a points system that rewards students for sticking around and penalizes those who leave early.

I agree it's a problem and I like both your ideas but not sure how practical it would be to enforce #2. Think you would have to tell students leaving at the end that they have to swipe in order to get credit for staying for 4 quarters otherwise you go in the books as having left early and get penalized thereby making it less likely to get bowl tickets or season tickets for the next year

What about all the folks that aren't students who left early? How should they be punished?

It could be argued a fire code hazard for making people wait in line to get out of a building/stadium.

I don't think it would be anymore than having all those people inside the stadium. I really don't know though

I left at the half because I had to go to work. I was pissed, but such is life I suppose. It was either work during this game or work during the LSU game.

I always stay until after the rammer jammer; even during the Shula days.

But you can't block the exits.

Lines to leave will do that.

Exit swiping would be voluntary.
So the exits would not be "blocked."

If there were an emergency, exceptions could be made.

The games are blowouts. I expect people to leave early in blowouts. I don't see what the issue is. It wasn't just students leaving early, most everyone left early.

"Student ID? I came in on a student guest ticket and I threw my ticket stub away."

Is the block seating causing students to not come to the game as well? I saw something recently where even your biggest games were only drawing about 3/4 of your capacity.
I think they even said the LSU game two years ago was like 80%

How does the seating go for upper level, first come?

El oh fricking el

The rest of the stadium was just as bad as the student section saturday night only people don't move up to the front once people are leaving so it spreads out the emptiness.

The non-block seating part of the student section was just as empty. i was there until 0 seconds left, but I was insanely bored during the 3rd and 4th quarters. Some people aren't as big of super fans as people who post on here get over it.

No if we eliminated it attendance would probably get worse. Especially for the shitty games. It happens all the time at Ole Miss. People are having a good time in the grove with their friends and when it comes to game they feel like they are going to get blown out or it is some no name team they decide to stay in the grove.

How early does a student have to show up to get a decent seat, prior to kick off.

I have to disagree. Sure, there were eventually a lot of empty seats all over the stadium, but the student section cleared out much earlier (mid 3rd quarter) particularly the end zone where block seating traditionally is

I usually get there an hour before kickoff, but I have had block seating since I have been there.

It really depends on the opponent though.

Meh. I contemplated taking a few pictures of the stadium because I knew this thread would probably pop up again some times.

Here are the 2 fixes that would do much more than the idiotic idea of eliminating block seating doing anything.

1. Penalties based on when you leave the game. We have penalties if you don't go to the game. Why not apply this to people leaving early if it such a huge issue.

2. Sell alcohol in the stadium. No one is leaving the game early to go home and play video games. People are leaving the game to either go back to the Quad or to a bar to watch the rest of the game.

Saturday night you had a top 5 matchup starting after our game, plus LSU was on the ropes. Some people would rather go somewhere and watch these games then watch our 2nd and 3rd stringers run the ball the 30 straight times.

I understand. I wanted to watch those other games too. But as CNS said, our team is out there playing their tails off for 4 quarters. I'm a little embarrassed to think what they must think when they look up and see so many empty seats. After all, they have delivered 3 of the last 4 and current #1 ranking. I don't think sticking around for 4 quarters is too much to ask.

The fact is that our fans are spoiled. Most programs would be so excited to have the #1 team that every home game would be like Mardi Gras. For us, it's just another Saturday.
