They were fouling us every time we drove the basket. That was their plan, to ugly it up. And it almost worked.
This was a good, gritty win. Shows this team can win more ways that one.

Our offence just seemed a little off tonight, glad to see we kept playing and won a tough game.

TS, I'm with you normally, but clearly the guy was complaining about the officiating by starting the thread.'
Either way, you know that pvilleguru is the resident Devil's Advocate. I know I played it to start the thread, but it's his schtick. Gotta just let him have it.

Wasn't bitching about the officials. Just stating the obvious that KY managed to stay within 3 pts at the half because of 9 point swing at the line..plus a thrown 3 at the shot clock that miraculously went in btw.
I hate the "well we shot 3s so we don't get fouled narrative".
Have you watched a game? We spread the floor and drive to the paint continuously. We are 4th in the league at getting to the freethrow line,so we get to the line often.
Which is exactly what happened in the 2nd half.

You can hate it all you want, but that's what was happening last night.

I do watch our games. I know how we play. Last night was a different story.

So we shot 11 shots at the rim in 1st half vs 14 in the 2nd half? Hmm..
We are 4th in the league at getting to the line.. So despite the fact that we shoot a lot of 3's.. we get to the line.
Shooting just 2 FTs in the first half was an anomaly...

You do realize that when you get fouled on a shot attempt it doesn't count as an attempt, right?

You do realize that Alabama gets to the line quite often..which blows the "but we shoot 3's" narrative out of the water..right?

Fouls in general weren't being called in the first half. We finished the half committing 8 to Kentucky's 7. We shot 16 threes. It stands to reason that jump shooters don't get fouled very much.
In the second half, we attacked to score and not to pass. We looked for contact rather than shying away and throwing up wild shots. We shot a lot of free throws.
I know the stats for the year. I'm telling you what happened last night.

We shot 16 3s in the first half..thats right on schedule since we avg just over 30 attempts a game.. so dont act like we were just jacking up 3s..
11 attempts in the paint.. which is pretty close to our avg. Yet we only went to the line twice.. compared to 13 times for KY..
That was the entire premise of the OP.. The game was close because of the FT line..its not rocket science.
Obviously in the 2nd half we backed off from behind the arc and tried to get in the paint more than normal.
But none of that changes the point that only shooting 2 freethrows in the 1st half wasn't normal.
We shot 26 Fts in 2nd half..but 10 of those happened at the under 3 which were intentional fouls by KY.
My original post, after the first half, despite the jump to conclusions, wasn't "bitching"..it was an observation of why we only had a 3 pt led.

The refs were certainly letting them play. There was one dunk (by Gary I think) where the Kentucky player put a hit on that would have made a football coach proud. Lots of contact last night.
