Kevin Steele is fine, Tommy Rees is not

Defense will keep getting better. Doesn’t matter who you’re playing; holding a team to 3 points and having turnovers is a good day on the defensive side of the ball. Once the players relax a little more, and I think they’re almost there, the defense will be fine and at the standard we’ve all come to expect. Benefit of having Steele, who is old(er) school and knows how to run the system efficiently.
However, Tommy Rees is the worst coordinator hire in Saban’s tenure. That’s including Golding, Lupoi, Nuss, BOB, and Applewhite. Pair a bad coordinator with an o-line that can’t push a baby stroller, no QB, and receivers that can’t create good separation consistently and we’ve found ourselves in the perfect storm of a bizarre offense.
I think it’s wild that Saban doesn’t let coordinators change the approach from a playbook perspective. It’s not that people can’t work for Saban, it’s that he won’t let them do everything they’ve known and done throughout their career to get them to the point of having an interview at Alabama. He has tried to keep the Kiffin/Sark offensive concept without Kiffin/Sark. Doesn’t work. Think about being offered a promotion, based on what you’ve been able to do because of your skill set, only for your new boss to ask you to change the way you do things and adopt his way of doing things instead. That’s asinine.
I’m not defending Rees there, because Notre Dame was overjoyed that he was leaving and now we see why, but it’s wild not to let people do what they know.

Steele is a clear upgrade over golding that is not debatable.
If golding was still here that was a sure loss yesterday

List your top 5 OC wants?

Kiffin would have a hard time drawing up a game plan for this squad.
What could Rees have done differently yesterday? Drives stalled in the first half because Buchner missed wide open receivers.

Would have been nice if we would have gotten Grubb.
I remember saying if he came and brought Pennix, no Qb on our roster could match him.
I was downvoted.

Need a guy from the NFL

There’s already a Family Guy video on Social Media making fun of Buchner with his bad throws

The current OL coach should have his direct deposits stopped immediately. He hasn't earned a dime in 2 years.

Bring back Stoutland or get Stacy Searels from UGA

Talent was always the issue but not Shula... talent was always the issue and not Pete Golding... now talent is the issue and not Tommy Rees.
I hate to be the bearer of awful news but USF is a team that won ONE game last season. This is a team that was carved up by an HBCU. This is a team that was annihilated by WKU.
Talent isn't an excuse. Our scout team should have been able to hang 50 on this squad.
The fact that you claim Kiffin would have a difficult time drawing up a game plan for USF is laughably false. And of these three quarterbacks, Kiffin would have one at least performing at an above average level against the ungodly USF Bulls of all teams.
Kiffin actually knew how to develop a quarterback and utilize his offensive talent, scheming around their strengths. Rees has no clue which is unsurprising given the fact that his offenses at Notre Dame consistently underperformed in both output and scoring against teams Alabama would typically wipe its arse with.
His track record speaks for itself as well as the pitiful offense he's trotting out at Alabama.

Kiffin developed a running back into a QB that led Alabama to the CFP

Same. Grubb would have been a major upgrade from BOB, unlike Rees.
According to the rumors, he wanted to make a lot of offensive changes (because I'd wager he foresaw this dumpster fire) and Saban told him no. So we settled for Tommy Rees and well, we're getting what we effing deserve.

So are we just to assume the O Line will block better and Buchner doesn’t aim for earth worms if Kiffin was drawing up the plays?
With Kiffin, Buchner will somehow hit the wide open receivers as opposed to missing them? Screen passes won’t be so challenging to complete with Kiffin?

Maybe some quick hitters to the edge when they kept bringing these exotic blitzes. Get the free 4-5 yards when they play off the LOS 8 yards. Little quick dumps to a rb . Not even a true screen. Just a little bubble route that we can get off in 2 seconds. Sark ate us up with that stuff just the week before.

Brother, our QBs were wildly inaccurate on short throws all day yesterday.

ND fans warned us that Rees and Buchner sucked and we chalked it up to sour grapes. I looked at some past ND seasons and Rees didn't really recruit or develop anyone as OC while at ND. Ian Book got drafted but he was already developed. Rees only got 1 year of Book as the OC compared to 2017-2019 under a different OC. So not only was he a meh OC he was a shitty recruiter as well.

He's been here 3 games with 3 different QBs. Maybe everyone should settle the frick down.
