Why is his name not being mentioned more in reference to the coaching search? Has won everywhere he has been, is about to have Houston in the sweet 16 with less talent than most of the other teams in the tourney.
He has less baggage than Pitino and is much more hire-able. Most of his NCAA issues have had to do with making illegal phone calls to recruits.
In his HC career he has been to the final 4, elite 8, and the sweet 16 four different times.
I would love the hire, he may be at the top of my list behind Matta.

Those NCAA issues were 10 years ago too.

Twitter says Greg Bryne is at the Houston game tonight.

Sampson's current salary is $1.4 million and his buyout is hard to determine, but I think it's 85% of what's remaining on his deal which runs through 2020-21. But the problem with that is Houston has shown they will spend well beyond what the typical G5 school will pay as the did with Dana Holgorsen's deal. They paid WVU his $1 million buyout and gave him a $3.7 million salary which is over a million more than the next highest paid G5 coach, Mike Norvell at Memphis. Houston is trying to get in a P5 conference so they are spending money like they are a P5 school. This may be a tough pull. Also, Kelvin's son is his assistant and he's already lobbying for him to take over when Kelvin leaves. That may be a plus or it may be a minus if Houston won't agree to that. Lots of moving parts here.
I'd love to snag him, his advanced metrics are stellar.

I wouldn't say "no" to Sampson, but on top of the baggage, he's also pretty old. My ideal candidate would be at least a little younger.

I think he is 7 years younger than coach K. Should have 10+ good coaching years left in him.

UH will match anything we offer. Tillman Fertita will make sure of that.

Even if they do where do where do you think a coach would rather be? American Athletic Conference at Houston, or at Alabama and in the SEC?

The American has a lot of schools with a strong basketball culture and Houston has at least as good of a history as we do, if not better. Again, we are not a blue blood. We aren't even close to a blue blood. If Houston to Alabama isn't a lateral move, it's like a quarter step up. He would be in no better of a position to make the tournament here than there. It's not like they are in a 1 bid conference.

Uhh honestly Houston. Probably easier to win if you can have seasons like this. Bigger talent pool to pull from.

What schools do they have with a strong basketball culture? Cinci is the only one that comes to mind.
In response to the second persons post the American conference is usually a two or three bid conference.
He is gonna get hired away from Houston whether its us or not, I would bet he isn’t there past next year at the latest.

Maybe, but the contractor that built his Lake Charles casino still hasn't been completely paid, the one who built his skyscraper in Houston filed $400 million worth of liens on it a few months ago, and there are rumors that he has told all the departments in the Rockets organization to start slashing budgets.
I'm not sure they'll be able to count on him as the money man for long.
