Can somebody explain his situation to me? I was under the impression that he lost his job due to injury, but after looking I realized he started every game apparently. I know he is a graduate.. but I just have never heard of a starting QB of a power 5 conference leaving a program with eligibility left on the table. Can somebody explain what's going on?

Wants a shot at the pros and a championship. Believes Ga can give him that.

He actually got the job in 2018 due to injury to the starter and never gave it back.

Like was said above, wanted to showcase himself his last year I think.

They kinda forced him out supposedly, but Russell Wilson was the starter his last year at NC St. Feel like it happened at least one other time?

It's a unique situation that requires a very specific set of circumstances though. Biggest factor being Wake Forest is obviously a program with a ceiling for competitiveness and a chance to step in and maybe play for a championship and show something for the NFL would be tough to pass up.

Maybe I'm not remembering correctly how it went down but didn't Everson Gholson leave ND when he was a starter?

Yeah but Gholson was awful as a qb and he was being replaced at ND.

Didn't the guy that replaced him transfer too? I think they were both terrible.

He got kicked out for a semester or something and either never got the job back or was a co-starter or something.

Golson got suspended for cheating, pretty sure he had to sit out a full semester. He was a dual threat guy that could run a spread pretty well and made a huge leap his sophomore year (29:14 TD:Int ratio). He missed the bowl game due to some reason (suspension I think), and Malik Zaire started. Basically forced Golson out, who went on to have a very efficient season at FSU, but they had that wonky loss to Georgia Tech and he had a concussion shortly after. Then it was basically the Sean Maguire show (RS JR) who balled out and started a QB controversy as Golson wasn't coming back and FSU was out of the title picture.\

Zaire was hyped for some odd reason by ND fans... Not really sure why because he was a terrible passer. He had a decent game against LSU in the bowl (12-15, 96 yards, 22 carries for 100+). Except Zaire got injured against in 2015 by breaking his ankle against Virginia, opening it to Deshone Kizer. Then he got injured against Texas to open the '16 season, so you had this weird QB carousel between those two and Brandon Wimbush in '17. Zaire transferred to Florida and never did anything of note, while Wimbush surrendered the job to Ian Book and transferred.

So Brian Kelly basically fricked his own program with three straight years of bad luck+indecision on starters.

Grayson Lambert may have been UVAs starter before going to UGA. Hope Newman is just as average

I never really thought about it but dang ND had as many highly rated QBs transfer out as Texas A&M.

I think he'd lost the job. I'd guess Newman will be better than that.

Newman is getting a lot of hype, like he's one of the top QBs in all of CFB, with the news of his transfer, but tbh I had never even heard of him before his transfer to GA.

Newman was quoted saying, (paraphrased) "I don't want to be known as just an RPO guy. I want to show that I can do it all."

GA checks that pro-style box. is a potential championship team on a much bigger stage from game 1, and there's no one to fight him for that job. He's the savior. And there are no George Pickens' on Wake's team.

It's a no-brainer, career-wise.

Newman is 3rd on PFF's rankings of 2020 draft eligible QBs behind only Lawrence and Fields. This is monster get for GA. Newman is legit.

That PFF hype is what I was referring to. Judging by their hype he's suddenly getting now, it kinda seems like he should've gotten some of that before he transferred, no? PFF's hot take reads like he's expected to be a major heisman vote getter who'll be invited to New York

If this Newman guy is legit then GA is going to be a real threat for Natl Championship.
They have top receivers recruited as well as a 5-star TE. They already have a top notch RB. OL is the only question but they had good depth, didn’t they?
It is not going to be as easy when we play them as some think.
