re: Is it weird I’m viewing this Sugar Bowl as like a Spring game?

I have to live with these jackasses out here. I need a win. 3/4 of my running group are Cats. FML if we lose…
Not that I really needed one, but you’ve given me a good reason to cheer my arse off. I was around a bunch of Hokies in 98 so I get it.

It also feels spring game-ish because its at 11:00am CST. I'll be on vacation, so I am honestly not sure I will even watch the game since it's in the middle of the day.

It is a little more like a spring game with the roster being changed from the season, but it's still another team we are playing. To me it's more like a one game season with a unique roster you haven't seen before nor will ever see again. It's also often a springboard into the next season. I always feel a big bowl win bodes well for the coming season. That however would not be the case if your QB during the season bails on the game and your backup is not ready. If that happens and you lose I don't think it would have much effect on the upcoming season.

Do you believe that 45-31 Sugar Bowl against OU in the 2013 is indicative of how our 2011 defense would have done against either that OU offense that night or any other prolific spread offense?
We should clarify that the innovation at that time was really the RPO spread offense. Teams have been running spread offenses for decades now, and Saban teams shut many of them down.
The RPO offenses were so new around 2013 the ‘11 team might have struggled with it. Harbaugh took Kaepernick to a Super Bowl running read option constantly around that time.
Chapman, Jesse Williams and Square probably isn’t the best front to take on a spread option offense. Georgia Southern was one of the more successful offenses against the ‘11 team.
I highly doubt that unit would give up 45 points to anybody though. We also turned it over 5 times in that Sugar Bowl.

Doesn’t feel like a spring game anymore. Thank you to all of the players going at it one last time.

The team has something to prove.

Agreed on both counts.

Plus Saban knows that his program is in dire need of a reset. He has the #1 class and wants to keep it.
Let's hope we see some of that old intensity and kick some arse.

Chili: I understand. I'm a Bama fan. I sent three daughters to T-Town, all graduated with honors and they came home with
husbands. BUT, I'm a K-State graduate and very proud of their accomplishments. The bad news is I'm conflicted with this game. The good news is regardless of which team wins, I win. Gotta look at the glass as half full.

Playoffs didn’t kill bowl season. The BCS did, we just didn’t see it at the time.
