Yes. You can go numbers, awards, whatever. He is it.
He's an amazing combination of speed, hands, footwork, and route-running. The GOAT at the University of Alabama.

He is probably the GOAT offensive player in AL football history.
Yeah I think the better debate is where Smitty ranks all time among Alabama players generally. In terms of combined individual and team accomplishments there's a strong argument to be made that he has had the GOAT Alabama football career.

I agree it's quite hard to compare players from different eras, especially the way the rules have changed. But I don't think there could be much of an argument that Smitty had the best hands of any WR ever in Tuscaloosa. Get it close to him and he's coming down with it. He's certainly in the conversation of greatest at Alabama and even GOAT.
BTW, OP left out one of the greats, the Wizard of Oz, Ozzie Newsome.

Numbers and trophies wise he probably is. But Julio Jones is the most important recruit and player in the history of Alabama football in my opinion.

I thought he played TE at Alabama.

No, Ozzie played TE in the NFL. At Alabama, he was a split end/wr in the wishbone and was THE dominant receiver for his 4 years in Tuscaloosa.

He's listed as a TE on both the 1976 and 1977 1st Team All-SEC team roster. And Wikipedia says he was named the 1977 SEC Lineman of the Year by the Birmingham Quarterback Club. Though he's apparently listed interchangeably as a WR/TE on the various All-America teams he made in 1977.
