I am told he is still hurt and will be back at about 80% for auburn. He won’t play next week.

Nick Saban said after the game that he thought Tagovailoa would be ok, that he could have returned if necessary. The hit he took was on the front of the knee and the problem he’s been dealing with was to the back of the knee.

Meanwhile, sophomore guard Deonte Brown might have a more serious problem moving forward after suffering a turf-toe injury.

He went into the medical tent in the second quarter and did not return to finish the first half.

Senior Lester Cotton Sr. was inserted.

This story will be updated.

Whose soul do we need to sell to bring back our injury luck from earlier in Saban’s tenure?

Saban: Tua took a hit on the front of his knee, the problem before was on the back. Think he'll be ok.

Chris Walsh tweet.

What can get screwed up on the back of someone's knee?

Seriously. Just cut off the toe. I’m pretty sure the recovery would be shorter.

If he has a torn meniscus, I think it’s possible the tear could be near the back of the knee since they kind of encircle the knee. But I’m not a doctor.

I dread the Iron Bowl and Tua potentially getting injured even worse. Because we’ll have to turn around and play UGA in the SEC championship game.

Not too worried about UGA but he’ll get hit plenty against Auburn’s defense.

Injury updates on Tua Tagovailoa, Deonte Brown after MSU game (BamaOnLine)
quote:

A pair of Alabama offensive starters exited the game against Mississippi State on Saturday afternoon and did not return to the field at Bryant-Denny Stadium.

Sophomore quarterback Tua Tagovailoa took a hit on his quad muscle and could not get the muscle loose because of the cold weather, according to the CBS Sports television broadcast.

"Tua could have gone back in the game if needed to," Alabama head coach Nick Saban said after the game. "He got hit low a few times out there today, and I think he got hit in the front of the knee, not the back, which is what his initial problem was. I think he's OK."

Tagovailoa was sacked four times in the game and exited it on the final takedown behind the line of scrimmage in the third quarter. He was replaced by redshirt freshman Mac Jones to start the fourth quarter. Tagovailoa threw for 164 yards, one touchdown and one interception -- his second of the season -- on 14-of-21 passing. His rushing totals were -24 yards on eight carries.

The sophomore briefly visited the medical tent before riding a stationary bike on the sideline.

Deonte Brown started his third consecutive game at left guard but visited the medical tent in the first quarter and did not return to the game. He was replaced by seven-game starter Lester Cotton.

"Deonte Brown went out of the game, he got turf toe and that may be a little bit more of an issue for him, especially for next week," Saban said.

Alabama will next host The Citadel on Saturday, Nov. 17, for an 11 a.m. CT kickoff.

I'm not sure if they kept Najee out because of being dinged up or the fact that he couldn't pick up blitzes

I'm going to guess that this is the problem. Apparently, it's as bad as it can get so he might as well play through it.
