If Hurts had went to OK first I think he transfers from there. Idt he beats out Mayfield or shortness.

I do not understand the point in this thread.

well no. I seriously doubt he'd have beaten those guys, though he has improved his passing game the last 2 years.

Wherever Jalen went he needed a redshirt year which is what he got in a sense last season at Bama. We got put in a pinch which is how Jalen ended up as the starter at Bama.

The truest thing I have read here all week. It wasn't his fault he was forced into starting as a true freshman before he became even average in the passing game. I gave him hell in 2017 and I hated him for costing us a NC in 2016 (get over it because it's true). I wish I had channeled my anger at the staff for whiffing on quarterback recruiting and evaluations instead of taking my frustration out on Jalen making a lot of you hate me as a poster in the process. Roll Tide to Jalen Hurts, he deserves our support because I believe he still bleeds crimson and white.

He is definitely one of the all time legends in Bama football history.

So do you think he would have stayed at Oklahoma and been ok with waiting and then being the starter this year?

Do you think he got pushed into the starting role at Bama too early which created some expectations on his part?

but that's very hard to judge. It was crazy how many 4 and 5 star qbs we signed that didn't work out for us. I think Phillip Sims was the #1 ranked qb in the nation by at least 1 of the major recruiting services, and Blake Barnett was #1 or #2.

Then you got Blake Sims, a utility type guy that was a pretty good qb, and Jake Coker, who once he settled in was damn good, and won a national title for us.

Still, a healthy Tua Tagovailoa is the best Alabama quarterback since at least Kenny Stabler, and may be the best ever (I said healthy), and he was a blue chip high school qb.

absolutely that. He would have benefited a redshirt year, but then he would have been competing with Tua, who was capable year 1 of being the starter and did, lest we forget, win the national title that year.

Was Jalen picking between Oklahoma and us in his recruitment?

Blake Barnett tucked tail and transferred. That's what screwed us. But, had he stayed I think he eventually would've won the job because Jalen was limited in the passing game. It's all water under the bridge because if Blake Barnett stayed Tua wouldn't have come.

Yes, he would have waited imo. He didn't transfer out until he was pretty much down to one year of eligibility. He got a taste of being a successful starting quarterback so it was different than sitting the bench behind better players the entire time just waiting his turn. I could be wrong but I feel like the kid isnt the type to quit. He wanted a shot at the NFL and prior to this year he was undraftable as a quarterback.

That is my point exactly. He was nowhere near ready to start as a quarterback at any major program until his junior year as evidenced by his marked improvement on the field in 2018. He was as raw of a passer as anyone could have been his freshman year. He gave us his all though and a few of us owe him an apology for talking trash about him online. He likely was aware of what some fans said about him online whether he admitted it or not. Kids read their own press clippings imo.

I pretty much agree with all that, but we may be in the minority.

Everything worked out pretty good except for the horrible injury luck Tua has had, and I actually feel worse for him than for the fact it probably precluded another title for us.

He worked damn hard to improve and that's very commendable and indicative of a very strong will.

OP why is this a hypothetical question when Jalen wasn’t even going to OU before Bama?

What about: If Hurts would have chosen baseball? Went to UAB? Decided to transgender? Became a WWE superstar?

I’ve got more if needed.

This. He enrolled at Alabama less than 4 months after turning 17. He definitely needed a redshirt year.

I asked this totally hypothetical question because of where Hurts is at now and the similarities between Bama and ok, how things worked out at Bama, and because it's a discussion I wanted to have.

I guess I should have just asked how you guys think things would have worked out had Jalen had people to learn behind. Would he still be at Bama? Etc.

If you wish to discuss his wwe chances knock yourself out. Anyone have a good wwe nickname for him?

Jalen Hurts was SEC Player Of The Year as a freshman.

We might need to save some of these what-ifs for Lane Kiffin who was too much of a train wreck to finish his business as OC in 2016.
