I'm in the same boat as you. Riding down with friends that already have tickets and will be looking 1.5 hours prior to kick until kickoff im sure. $450 was face value for uppers so I'm totally cool with paying around $500, but obviously I'm hoping I get lucky like I always do and find that Alabama fan that just has an extra.
I'll say this, though. Clemson fans have been buying tickets up from Alabama fans and are willing to pay these insane prices so that kind of makes me nervous about the availability of tickets on game day. We will see haha.

Buddy of mine found 4 upper decks for $500 each, but in the Clemson section.....

Your buddy "found" some fake tickets. Unless he bought them from a friend that gave them to him at face value. Ticket prices are SOARING. No way someone would sell for essentially face value.
Everyone please use some common sense. When tickets are going for $1500 a piece and you find some for $500, those are 100% fake tickets.
With both fan bases being within driving distance, this is going to be a hard game to scalp a cheap ticket.

be patient. like I said, there comes a point when it's a worthless piece of paper. I don't even start searching for tickets until an hour or two before kickoff. Any sooner than that and you're throwing away money.
You need to be willing to pay face though if you're set on getting into a game. If I find a ticket for face value at a tailgate at 2pm tomorrow, I'm buying it. That's fair for all parties involved. The people that are selling extras are always the people you want to deal with, not the scalpers that buy tickets and mark them up. (even if they are offering at market value) That's technically illegal for one and they're all shady as hell anyway. Walk around the stadium with your finger in the air. The people with an extra will come to you. The only thing is, people with extras aren't missing kickoff. You'll have to deal with a scalper if you miss the kickoff.

fake tickets are pretty easy to spot from my experience. It's like counterfeit money. When you get your hands on it, you know.
If your buddy wants to sell one of those 4 holler at me. $500 is about what I expect to spend either way. As many of you might've guessed about me, I absolutely love sitting in a visitor section. I always have more fun in that sort of environment.

There were no tickets for sale at all outside the stadium at kickoff. No scalpers had tickets.
The only thing I saw were some counterfeits for $700 each.
