How Milroe can grow and reach his true potential

I think Milroe has all he physical tools to be an absolute elite QB like Penix, but he lacks some mental discipline and panics in random situations. To gain control over this, he needs to start meditating to build mental strength, keep cool, stay relaxed and increase his focus. I believe he will excel to great heights

Need a way better OC/QB Coach

He needs a better grasp of football as a whole from a mental perspective. I think most of that panic comes from not knowing what to do. Michigan did a good job disguising their pressure, but they also showed some early. Our line got whipped, but we've had some QBs (McCarron and Young come to mind) that knew ball so well that they would see it and get us into a better play or a better protection. We've also had centers contribute to that in the past, which I didn't see much, if any, this year.
No hate from me to Jalen. He was the best we had this year. He has plenty of room for growth and I expect him to get better.

Needs to rework his mechanics. Train to improve everything from a technical standpoint. The rest comes from experience. It’s the best teacher.
He also needs to really do a better job at reading presnap pressure and improve his awareness. He misses a lot of guys downfield and brings his eyes down to the pressure. Part of that is not knowing where the pressure is coming from so he’s uncomfortable.

Hard to see pressure coming when your eyes are trying to find the snap at your feet.

Coaches need to tell him there's no shame in being a running quarterback. A running quarterback is about to be the NFL MVP. Heisman winner this year was a running quarterback.

It isn't a coaching problem. It's a Milroe problem. He doesn't want to run.
You think Tommy Rees is telling Milroe not to run?

Milroe will never be Penix. He can't anticipate throws or throw receivers open. He thinks his arm strength can overcome waiting until the receiver is open before he throws it. When is the last time Milroe hit a receiver in stride? There's a relay problem in his brain. He has to see the play before it can happen. Penix was throwing his receivers open and throwing into tight windows. Milroe couldn't be trusted to throw a pass with the game on the line multiple times.
Edit: Penix will carve Michigan up. I would bet my vacation home Michigan doesn't sack Penix 5x in the 1st half.

During the game yesterday. Is this a trick question?

What I meant is that the coaches need to demand that he runs most often. Or maybe they need to bring in a sports psychologist to talk to him. Whatever it takes to get him to understand that he needs to run more often.

He hit Bond in stride right near the sideline. It was about a 30-yard gain if I remember correctly.
And as far as Penix, he's in his sixth year of football and really only thrived these last two. It's almost like he got better with experience and coaching. But if you compare one guy who is in his first year as a starter and another who is in his fifth year, you're going to probably notice that the guy that's started for five years is better at the mental side of the game.

Bond made a spectacular catch. That isn't hitting him in stride. Ok. When's the last time Milroe hit a receiver in stride in the open field?

Because he blew his knee out twice and he played at Indiana. Penix threw for 491 yards vs Ohio State at Indiana, too. He's 10th in career passing tds, and he only played 17 games.

A spectacular catch? He hit him in stride in the hands. It was a good catch and a good throw.
Keep moving the goalposts, buddy. I love it.

Ok. That's 1. Way to make my point.
Bond's catch is at the 4:08 mark. It was spectacular.
Bond's catch

What point? I answered your question about him hitting a receiver in stride (which you somehow claim doesn't count - I guess if you make the rules on what is "in stride" then you can say he hasn't done it all year simply because you say so). Thanks for the video. Bond didn't break stride and Milroe threw it in the one spot he could have to be completed. Beautiful throw.
I also pointed out that Penix hasn't always been the player he is, a point to which you are simultaneously suggesting I am wrong, but also acknowledging by making excuses for why he was inconsistent early in his career.

No problem. It was Milroe's best throw of the game.

Two season-ending knee injuries will do that.

I think its pretty foolish to just write Jalen off as if its impossible for him to get any better. He has a whole off-season as QB1 to improve his game. Is it possible he's hit his ceiling? Sure but I think its unlikely that a first year starter can't get any better with even more experience and maturity.
Joe Burrow sucked his first year starting at LSU. Jayden Daniels was just a guy at Arizona and then was aggressively mediocre last year at LSU. Hurts has steadily improved every year since his junior season at Bama. Plenty of guys have looked average and gone on to develop into great QBs.
I'm willing to bet he knows what he needs to do better and works his arse off to do it this off-season.
