Some of the end of the juggernaut is that no one can hold onto players if they aren’t starting or likely to see significant playing time. Alabama has a lot of holes in their roster at the starter line when 4-5 years ago those holes would be in the depth and only noticeable with several injuries at one position.

Pritchett is a flex tackle at best on 2010s Alabama rosters. Proctor is probably a starting RT on those rosters instead of the blind side protector. Our entire DL is depth at best on those mid-2010s defenses.

Needless to say, when injuries start piling up all the sudden you don’t have a third WR, edge rusher, or your best inside linebacker in run support. You are also starting a guard who you’d probably hold out due to injury if there were better options.

That’s the way it is for the majority of rosters right now. NIL and transferring has affected every team in some way. Georgia has lost a good amount of their quality depth and has been very vulnerable at times this year.

Yep, Alabama is not uniquely suffering from this effect. Until people in power accept the players must be considered employees, given a union, and collectively bargain limitations on the player’s freedom of movement…it will continue to be like this mess.

You get it. Any attempt to arbitrarily rein in players’ ability to make money or change teams will be tossed out by the federal courts because this is not just a sport, it’s a zillion dollar business and is subject to the same laws as any other zillion dollar business. There will have to be negotiations where it’s made worth the players’ while to willingly give up some of their freedoms.

He certainly hasn’t done a good enough job this year to justify a $10 million a year salary.

I'm not going to wash away the season and his entire salary but ...EVERYONE that got some sort of compensation ( paycheck..NIL...other) needs to donate a prorated amount to charity after that Oklahoma debacle. No one earned a dime from that performance

If you want something resembling college football as you remember it back, it’s coming with organized labor and collective bargaining. If you got some ideological hang up about it, enjoy the free markets at work.

G-Mac and Cole stated this morning something I've noticed in games. The attitude of the players and the sideline.

Scott Cochran had a lot of haters on this board by the time he left. I was never one of them.

Actually, it isn't like any other zillion dollar business at all.

Does every NFL player become a free agent every year?

When Belichick left the Patriots, did every player on their roster have a special window of time to jump ship to another team?

These players are now paid professionals. Treat the scholarship as an contract. 3 years guaranteed on both sides.

NFL players collectively bargained for the contract to be like that.

That’s going to have to happen for college players to face the restrictions you propose.

College football is a business just like any other, the problem is that generations of people have been raised and conditioned to naively believe otherwise.

Ballou doesn’t do anything on the sideline to fire anyone up. I don’t think our S&C program is as good as it was under Cochran, either.

Ballou's program is leagues better...but Cochran was a great day to day liason for
the players and a great recruiter. For a program that recruits physical freaks, there is an argument that a Cochran type coach is better

Cochran had his issues as well favoring raw strength over explosive strength and flexibility. But no one can deny Cochran's impact on the psychology of the team
