Grubb's Offensive Identity

I know this has been a heavy topic on here after Saturday but I do disagree with the sentiment that we have no identity on offense. I think the last two years have made it very clear that Grubb's offensive identity is everything starts and ends with the QB. The running game will never be the focus point while Grubb is the OC. We are not going to line up in the I consistently and try to run it down your throat. I think Grubb has changed a good bit to go away from some of the RPO tags with the run game and with the I formation stuff he has done. When the QB in this offense is playing well things look really good, but if the QB has an off game Grubb isnt stubborn enough with the run. I think the hardest part this year is that 12 has been able to overcome his bad moments and find his groove in the after early struggles vs UK, FSU, and UGA. It felt like Grubb kept calling the offense expecting 12 to find it on Saturday and he just couldnt or we would drop a ball, run a route a yard short of the line to gain, or the ball would get batted down on the quick game plays he called. The hope is that CKD can put the screws into Grubb to be more stubborn with the run game when the QB is off, but 12 has to keep growing up and be more consistent.

The problem is actually one door down the hall from Grubb.

Who you hiring?

You can't fire him at this point. Byrne and the BOT made this mess, and they are going to have to deal with it.
1st fix is to release Grubb at the end of the year.

The problem isn't that we have no identity, the problem is that we have only one identity: deep, long-developing pass plays. Anything else that we run is a distraction. And if the other team plays a defensive scheme designed to take away deep, long-developing pass plays and force us to commit to anything else, we will ignore what they are doing and stick to those plays. It is literally our only plan.

Grubb was asked about our identity and he stated that our identity was to get the ball to playmakers in space.
That’s not an identity

His admin? What did they do?

I disagree but everyone see's what they want to see. I saw him try to throw quick game concepts but the ball got batted down from the defense multiple times.

I actually like the answer personally. Like I said, it works really well when the QB is playing well. His scheme will never work without a QB playing well.

Why prolong the inevitable? Send this cat packing and use someone who is already on staff, it can't be any worse.

The identity of this offense under grubb is to avoid establishing the run at all cost. If anyone watched tape on TN Ray Charles could see that if you have a power run game you could run on them. Get that established first and set the tone, then ease your 1st year QB in with some play action or quick throws. Grubbs needs to be fired today

Offensive line.
It looked better to begin the season but sure struggled in pass protection against Georgia.
Then Tennessee just handed our backup center/left guard their asses almost every single play, run or pass.
Not beat them. Just demolished them.
I don't like Grubbs playcalling but that's problem #1 to fix before anything works consistently.

I just think that's the mark of a bad offense at this level of football. If your fortunes rise and fall with one player and that player isn't a quality NFL starting QB, the system isn't worth a shite. Young, inexperienced college players are not going to bring their A game every weekend like a veteran pro. You cannot allow one player to bring you down if he's having a bad day.

I would like our offensive identity to be gain yardage, move the chains, score points.

I dont completely disagree, but to a certain degree isnt this all offenses with their QB when playing a good opponent? UGA found that our Saturday when the shitty Stockton showed up.

Pretty tough to call any play when #2 for them was going to blow it up no matter who was blocking him. Who know's what happens if 64 doesnt get his arse blown up by him on the 4th down when we were driving only down 2.

So without this "mess" are you hiring right now that's shown they are heads and shoulders above CKD? Lanning? Kiffin? Sark? Sumrall? How about Kirby? Oh wait every damn one of them has lost games they shouldn't have and some have lost multiple games to CKD.

I don't think so. Tennessee has a good but not great rush offense if you look at the numbers. I think they were around 42 nationally before the Bama game.
Bama was in trouble, on defense, from the start. Tennesse got the ball and were getting 3, 4, 5 yards a run from the start. Our DLine was getting pushed backwards from the very start.
On the flip side, our rushing game was not good. When Bama did run, it was usually stuffed though Daniel Hill had a couple of bursts. The issue is, and many of y'all forget, there were times where Bama ran the ball consecutively but could not get the first down. I believe one of the 4th down stops, was four straight rush plays. Hill went for seven yards, Keelon kept on an RPO for no gain. Hill for two yards and then Hill stopped short on 4 and 1. *Edited to say, maybe on this series there was a pass to the TE short of the first down to make it 4th and 1.
It's true Grubb called a terrible game but let's not pretend our run game is good.

Tenn was tied with Arkansas late in the game. Bama wasn't embarrassed by a great team.

Yeah I wouldn't get too hung up in comparing scores. Florida destroyed Ole Miss who destroyed Missouri who destroyed Florida.
Tennessee who normally likes to spread it out on offense, go fast, run the ball with downfield shots completely altered their gameplan for Bama. They followed the example provided by Georgia. Play it slow, don't give the young QB too much and emphasize being conservative and safe with the ball. That would equal points against Bama and it did,
On the flip side, Jim Knowles and his players did a masterful job at confusing young Keelon, controlling the LOS, while completely outclassing Grubb/DeBoer.
