Rivals Camp Series Atlanta: Prospects who earned their stripes
quote:

Javon Baker

MARIETTA, GA — The 2019 Rivals 3 Stripe Camp Series presented by adidas rolled into Atlanta Friday night, with some of the area's top prospects turning out to compete in the latest regional stop of this year’s tour. With so much talent on hand, there were plenty impressive performances, but only a select few can win position MVPs or earn a much-coveted invite to the Rivals100 Five-Star Challenge presented by adidas. We run through the players who won awards and earned their stripes at Friday’s event... (more)

WATCH: Tide commit Malachi Moore at The Opening (BamaOnLine | embedded video)
quote:

Alabama cornerback commit Malachi Moore was one of 247Sports' top performers at The Opening Regional in Atlanta last month.

This is what was said of the Hewitt-Trussville (Ala.) product after a strong showing via 247Sports' Charles Power:

"The Alabama pledge was among the most active defensive backs over the course of the day, winning a high number of reps and recording a high number of breakups and interceptions in 1-on-1's. We liked the top 100 prospect's overall competitiveness and disposition, as he took (and won) a bunch of reps. While he wasn't flawless in coverage, Moore was in position far more often than not and did a very nice job in tracking and locating the ball downfield. From a build standpiont, Moore was one of the more physically developed defensive backs. He obviously doesn't skip leg day.

The 6-foot, 180-pounder is coming off a First Team All-State season in 2018 that saw him rack up 47 tackles and four pass breakups on the year."

Moore is rated the No. 7 cornerback and the No. 95 overall player in the country, per the industry-generated 247Sports Composite Rankings.

Five-star ATH Darnell Washington talks Bama visit (BamaOnLine | includes video)
quote:

Five-star athlete Darnell Washington spent time in Tuscaloosa Wednesday on his second unofficial visit to the Capstone thus far in his recruitment. “It was great,” Washington told BamaOnLine of his time on campus. “It was fun.”

The Las Vegas (Nev.) Desert Pines product spent a good bit of time with the coaching staff, which ultimately was the highlight of the trip. “Just being around the coaches, just talking like with Coach (Scott) Cochran, just talking to him, seeing how he is,” Washington said. “He seemed like a fun dude.”

Over three dozen schools have offered the 6-foot-7.5, 248-pounder, which ends up being a lot of different recruiting pitches from head coaches. What’s different about Nick Saban’s message as opposed to others?

“Just the information he was giving me was like facts and stuff, it caught my eye,” Washington said. “He’s not giving me a pitch or nothing like that. He’s just telling me straight facts.”

The facts paint a pretty picture when it comes to the Tide’s pursuit of five-star recruits.

“Just their history,” Washington said of what he likes most about what the UA program offers. “They’re known for putting guys in the league. I saw something earlier on social media about how many five-stars go to Bama and get drafted, it’s about 50 percent. It’s a 50/50 (chance at Bama), whereas other schools it’s like 20 percent. Just Bama’s history and what they produce.”

While he wasn’t a five-star, Alabama has a pretty good reference point in Irv Smith Jr. when it comes to what the program can offer in terms of tight end development. “I love hearing about that with Jeff Banks and going over the film and seeing what he was doing this season and stuff like that,” Washington said.

Speaking of Jeff Banks, the Tide assistant stepped in for Tosh Lupoi in Washington’s recruitment and is said to be doing an “amazing” job recruiting the five-star talent. “This visit I think sort of brought us closer to together,” Washington said. Washington also enjoyed spending time with assistant player personnel director Roger Bedford during his stay.

In a battle with schools like Auburn, Georgia, Miami and Oregon, among others, did Alabama help itself in its pursuit of Washington with the visit? “Most definitely,” he said.

Dates and locations are still being worked out when it comes to official visits, but there’s a good chance the Tide sealed one this week. “I believe Bama’s got an official,” Washington said.

Georgia is the lone 247Sports Crystal Ball pick for the elite tight end target. “Nah, not really,” Washington said when asked if there’s a leader. “Every school’s got a chance.”

Washington is rated the No. 2 athlete and the No. 18 overall player in the country, per the industry-generated 247Sports Composite Rankings.

Five-star recruits Alabama hosted this spring (BamaOnLine)
quote:

Alabama football capped off the spring last weekend with its annual Golden Flake A-Day Game.

The Crimson Tide staff will now turn its full attention to recruiting for the next few weeks as college coaching staffs span the country during the Evaluation Period.

Nick Saban and company saw its fair share of talent on campus this spring, and will certainly host more top visitors as we enter the summer months with camps and Champions Cookouts on the docket.

Here, BamaOnLine looks back at the five-star visitors that were in Tuscaloosa at one point or another this spring already... (more)

Looking at Alabama's No. 1-ranked class (BamaOnLine)
quote:

Alabama wrapped up National Signing Day in February atop the 247Sports Composite Team Recruiting Rankings for 2019. The Crimson Tide finished with 317.50 points, good for one of Nick Saban's all-time best signing classes.

With the Early Signing Period in its second year, we've seen the Tide take a more expedited approach on the recruiting trail in some areas, and that's evident in Alabama's 2020 class at the moment.

Nick Saban and staff have accepted 15 commitments thus far in the cycle. Alabama ranks No. 1 in 2020 at the moment, with an average per/commit rating of 92.10.

The Tide has already hit on several needs in the class, but with roughly eight months to go until pen to paper, expect Bama to continue to push for all areas of need in the cycle.

Here, BamaOnLine takes a look at each of the Tide's 2020 commitments as it stands... (more)

Note: Per the NCAA Recruiting Calendar, the Spring Evaluation Period allows off-campus visits by coaching staff from April 15 - May 31. And the early period for Official Visits runs from April 1 (junior year) through the Sunday before the last Wednesday in June.

ESPN article on Jonah's hard work.

I hope Jonah takes up coaching after his NFL career is over.

Top JUCO ATH planning Alabama visit VIP - BamaOnLine By Hank South
quote:

Alabama will play host to junior college athlete Maureese Wren on June 1 for an unofficial visit, he tells BamaOnLine. The Tyler Junior.
rest behind paywall.

Rivals lists as WR from Mesquite, TX (Horn) originally signed with La Tech. was 3 star out of HS.
247 currently shows as 3 star out of Tyler JC. 6-4 220
Current offers - Missouri, Illinois State, Oregon State.

247 Scouting Report
Evaluation

Maureese Wren has played receiver and even-front defensive end early in his career and has the physical gifts to play either side of the ball at the next level. As his recruitment has progressed, Wren has emerged as an outside linebacker prospect for a lot of schools. His frame potential and athleticism suggest that he will physically be able to make the adjustment to a full-time defensive role. He's a plus athlete who can play P5-level football on either side of the ball. -- Gabe Brooks
