It's not about getting to the level. It's about the stress envolved dilating there and the atmosphere which is created because there us literally no support system. I don't care how much it's glamorized; it ain't healthy.

Anyways, this is one of those discussion that it won't work online. You would have to sit down with me in person, talk and actually see/feel my message to understand my view point.

If you got on a practice squad, or even just invited to a tryout, you've lived the dream for most every football fan. I'm sure it's a hell of a grind trying to make that last leap, but not everyone can do it.

I'll just have to take this at face value. The idea of making the NFL was so far from my skill level that it's laughable, but for you, it seems like it was very real once. I hate that something that is a dream in my eyes was a bad experience in yours. Best of luck if this is something that is still in your sights.

Don't get me wrong, I am grateful.

However one thing we have to differentiate is the fan from the player. The fan hasn't worked himself into the ground to earn the opportunity... hence why they don't share the feeling. The player has worked to earn it.

It is earned not given. No differently than a doctor or lawyer his license.

My main point was to highlight that things could be done in a better way which can help all. Using the college system which stifles players limiting eligibility; harms the individual.

The NFL wins because they get well trained labor without needing to invest a dime. The NCAA and universities win by benefiting from the revenue these players generate.

The players who actually make it still aren't guaranteed anything and an injury can change everything even though thousands of hours have been used to hone a craft; no differently than any contract work or job. This is in a workforce where injury is high probability.

There should be a developmental system. Nothing large or overbearing. Something smaller, not profit centric which serves as a landing spot. Something for small towns, so they can engage the professional game in their own way

All I'm saying is for people to think of the human aspect of this and not just see guys as disposable assets; trashed once "purpose" has been served.

Anyways, thanks for being cool about it when some others just attacked blindly and angrily.

I agree with you on several points especially the NFL and NCAA and other college making billions off of football while the players are told it’s still not a job for the, but an amateur sports...lol yes sure it is. The nfl should have to invest more and I believe players should be able to negotiate their contracts at any point and get paid by the NFL if they can secure such a contract while remaining in school. Such would allow the players to get paid more and the NFL to invest in preparation process.

I believe the players are compensated fairly when taken into account everything they get and everything they get which isn’t known by most though the stories are told as “buying” players etc.

In college I was trained for many things and the training in high school was every bit as important (and in some cases more important) as what I learned in college. I learned you work your arse off to get an opportunity at the next level. I learned no one is going to give you that opportunity unless you earn it by your own efforts. I learned that some people have an easier road to that opportunity than others due to the support and opportunities they had earlier in life and due to simple genetics. But in the end, you use and improve what you have or you do not get the chance to move to the next level.

I also learned in econ 101 about supply and demand. If for what ever reason you are not able to be or continue to meet the skill or capability to meet the demand, there is no reasonable expectation or system waiting to compensate you for what ever effort you put in to gain access to the system. You have to prepare to fend for yourself in the event your first plan gets taken away.

Baseball was my best sport. I was a MLB level skill set catcher. A knee injury in football took that away. No one stepped up to pay me while I tried to find my way to another opportunity. I played football in college at Alabama but the knee injury came back to haunt me and that "dream" was over as well. I used what I learned in school to find a path in the "normal" world supply and demand system. I learned in the working world and eventually started my own business. Two hurricanes took away the footing of that business and I lost my investment and killed that dream. I have another business. It is going well but the old knee injury is biting me again. I cannot take the time off to get a new knee and a new hip because that time off would kill the new business.

You take what you have. You do the best with it that you can. You fight to take care of those you love. No one owns you anything. You find a way to be the supply to meet the demand or you watch someone else be the supply.

Football, Baseball, Doctor, Lawyer - the game is the same. You use what you have and what you can learn to make the path as good as you can. Your personal goals drive you down that path and your efforts provide the power. Any investment some other person or industry make in your efforts are for their reasons and goals. They do not owe you anything, not even an opportunity.

quote:

The fan hasn't worked himself into the ground to earn the opportunity... hence why they don't share the feeling.

I have worked myself into the ground for 50 years. Some times in sports and most of the times in the business of providing for my family. I have been the fan and the player multiple times. I know the feelings of success and the feelings of failure. Successes are mine to share. Failures are mine to own and drive other successes.

You sir get it..!!

I learned along time ago after working hard in sports and moving into business. You must never stop pushing, even if it’s on a different path. I try now to teach the kids I coach to put that same drive and effort towards life and they will be successful. I now coach and own 2 businesses.. I’m lucky coaching has now become just for play money. The businesses I have built carries the family and bills, but it’s a constant push. I run on about 3-4 hours of sleep a night and barley have weekends free, just to keep balance on all. It’s a struggle but very rewarding. I have to do this especially with Amazons and Walmart’s driving the e-commerce market and being some of my main competitors. I know my feet can be kicked out at anytime if I don’t go the extra mile. (school fund raisers, Attending chamber of commerce meetings, sponsoring local events, being a visible staple of the community) I have to keep my business in the “buy local” zone , because I can’t compete on prices with large box stores. It takes more effort.. and time. But I love the grind.

Fail means “First attempt in learning”
End means “ effort never dies”

Man, this place is dead.

Here's a picture of 5-star RB Kendall Milton who is currently on a three day unofficial visit to Alabama:

damn, man. As you know, that isn't healthy. I commend you for being so determined to provide for your family, but though it's a cliche', money ain't everything. You got to be happy and at least fairly healthy to enjoy life. You may be a young man, but too much stress and not enough downtime can eventually catch up to you.

God bless you.

Thoughts on the Edwards kid at RB that was the backup to John Emery last year? TI thinks he is underrated, and he was at A-Day
