two reports I read had Morris running first and someone else second. BB was not in top 2. They are RS him dudes. No matter fappy some of you guys get thinking of him starting, it just is not going to happen.

I believe you're referring to this:

quote:

-- The four quarterbacks worked in pairs doing drills with running backs. David Cornwell and Blake Barnett were throwing to the backups while Alec Morris and Cooper Bateman worked with Derrick Henry and Damien Harris.

Which hardly means anything. Last year and this year it's been a point that the QB order for drills rarely means anything. It is almost always in order of seniority, which looks to be the case here.

Yes, but NS said things would be paired down soon so as to give the guys that are going to play more reps. Morris did look good in the spring.

I'm sure Saban wants to trim this race down a bit.

I'm just saying, I don't think anyone is officially out yet. Bateman may be close by all accounts, but right now I think everyone is still in it.

On fan day there were some QB drills where they went straight by seniority: Coker, Morris, Bateman, Cornwell, BB. Then when they started working with other skill players, it was Coker and Cornwell paired up first. Bottomline, it's hard to derive anything from the order during the viewing period.

He will not start. That's a safe bet. I'd be willing to meet you and pay up after the game if he actual starts for any reason beyond suspension/injury to QBs (as in, multiple) ahead of him.

I've been saying for a while that BB will get playing time this year. That's going to happen. I'll make that bet. He may even start at some point, but he is not going to RS. Same offer - I'd be willing to meet you after the game for you to pay me when he does play.

No one is really "fappy" over it. We all know it will result in growing pains and, possibly, put more pressure on the O-line and the D if he does start. The fact of the matter is, he and Cornwell have the highest ceilings and the lowest floors of the QB options. At some point, talent will win. It almost always does - especially with Saban.

I wouldn't say they have the lowest floors, unless you mean specifically this year because of their youth.

I'd say Coker has the lowest floor. As for who has the highest? I don't know, Morris or Barnett maybe. That said Morris' ceiling isn't that high.

Still, I wouldn't rule out Morris. I don't know who it'll be, but I think it may still be too soon to rule anyone out.

I think Coker and Bateman have the lowest floors.

Someone on BOL posted this:
quote:

Spoke with someone in the St. Pauls program that is very close to the Coker family. A few interesting tidbits...

1) Jake will be fine and should be back to full strength by Monday. The staff wanted to get his foot fixed asap and not let it linger into the 1st games of the season.

2) As Jake sees it, He is currently the starting QB and has "game manager" down to a "T". Unless one of the other QB's really flashes play-making ability minus the turnovers he will take the 1st snap vs. Wisky.

3) The 1 QB that makes Jake nervous about hanging on to the job is (no surprise here) Blake Barnett. Jake senses that BB is Kiffins #1 choice and feels pressure from the rookie. The quote Coker gave this source was "Blake is Kiffins boy, and I'm not."

4) Cornwell in the doghouse - Apparently DC made some comments to Kiffin about Barnetts high amount of reps with the 1st team that didn't sit too well with Lane or Saban. So....to the doghouse he goes, as evidenced by his almost non-existent presence in the 1st scrimmage.

5) Overall Jake feels this team will be very good but just doesn't have the all-world game-changer at WR that we had in Amari Cooper. He likes the OL and feels that if healthy Drake is primed for a big-time season.

That's about it...nothing earth-shattering but these are Jake Coker's thoughts on where things currently stand

I meant highest ceilings and highest floors. My error in typing.

Those two (DC & BB) have really, really high ceilings and even their worst physical performance isn't as bad as the worst physical possibility from some of the others. The only reason those two could have worst performance from others is b/c of youth and inexperience. That said, I'm sure either will be fine.

I wouldn't necessarily call it "inside info". I have business relationships and friendships with a couple of guys who are agents to coaches on our staff, as well as others. I have a decent relationship with someone in football ops at Bama (staff, not intern). Also, one of my clients is a very large advertiser with Bama and every year is given 4 passes to attend practice, so he's seen some things first hand that he's shared.

Interesting. I can see that. I hope Coker doesn't take it personal though, I know that a situation like that can feel personal, but it's just how it goes.

Interesting. DC has never seemed like a bad character guy, so I hope people don't take this as him being a dick. Just a young guy.

I don't think any WR in the country is Amari Cooper, so that much was obvious.

Not calling anyone out, but are we shocked that the offensive coordinator seems partially to the best QB? The only knock on him seems to be his youth.

This is simple just run the old ND box. Put Howard and Foster out at WR and in the box put Henry, Drake, Stewart, and Averett. Averett played QB in HS and his senior year ran for over a 1200+ yards and threw for close to 900 not to mention a freak athlete and former track star. Stewart rushed for almost 2000yds his senior year and we know he can catch. If you need blockers for a package throw in the transfer WR with a TE or R Clark. You also have the option to throw Black and when he is healthy Bo in the box.

I know it will never happen but not sure what a DC would do if he saw that on the field. The options with those guys out there at the same time is limitless to an extent. wouldvdefinitely be fun to watch what Kiffin would scheme up

I'm not shocked, I'm pretty sure most OCs would have an opinion that favors one guy. And just going off of everything since Barnett committed, I don't think that guy being Barnett is too surprising.
