Our kicking woes continue. But other than that I'm feeling pretty good about everything else.

Yup, looks like Allen did put on about 10 pounds. He was still listed at 273 when I checked the other day, but y'all were right. Hope it doesn't hurt his quickness too much.

This leads me to believe that it's going to be Alec Morris if things keep going like they are.
The Nick Saban I know will always go with the guy that makes fewer mistakes over a more talented guy who's mistake prone.
Yup, this is starting to look like the direction this will go in. Not the most talented guy, been in the system the longest to do all the things he knows Saban likes.

This can't be true.
I know, right? The DBs were in position to make plays all of last year, too. Their issue was they never turned around to find the ball in the air.

Secondary gonna feast on 9/5 if Wisconsin lets Stave pass.

So what's up with cornwell only getting 1 series? Is he in the doghouse? From what I have read he seems to be the most consistent out of all the quarterbacks.

Could be a tactic pulled by Saban and Kiffin to see how he responds to adversity.

Yeah, remember the story about AJ being with the 3s (or walk ons, I can't remember) as a test? He failed, but it helped him become a great leader. Could be a similar situation with Cornwell.

no running backs really stood out
That quote says a lot. Do not care what QB you have in there from any team in the country. When the D knows we are not running the ball a lot easier to have the right coverage to have INTs and PBUs. Just saying. Everybody stressing about our QBs may need to slow their roll until we see how the QBs do against a defense that has to remain honest.
quote:
No one will be running on this team
Based on the other quote not sure how this can be determined until we actually play against a running team or run heavy in camp scrimmage. Yes the talent is there but seems a little contradictive from the scrimmage if we passed the ball 90% of the time.
quote:
The best thing to come from the O was that the 1st team Oline looked very impressive in pass protection.
Another post somewhere stated J Allen was in the backfield all day. Sacks can be a concern but if the pocket is collapsing early the QB effectiveness decreases and that is not a good sign for the OL. Which for someone like Barnett adjusting to the speed of the game will be a bit jumpy. It makes sense with Saban trying to find the starting QB to go pass heavy in the first scrimmage. We know we can run the ball.
I do think our D will be outstanding and with our talent at RB I am not concerned about the QB not being ALL SEC. I do think once the QB settles in our O will be a force to deal with because oour WR corps across the board should be the best under Saban. I wish we would move Howard to WR and surprised not to hear anything about Richard Mullaney.
Just my two cents.

If we weren't so stacked at WR we'd probably have Howard there. At TE we can utilize mismatches, just hope he's been working on his routes. They don't have to be great, but they could be a lot better than last year.

Howard in his first year was solid. He made a couple big plays and fit in well. This past year he was a guy who had problems adjusting to the new scheme and we did not line him up in the slot further out. Kind of like we did when he scored that 50 yard TD against LSU.

I read it like he's trying to let Barnett know he doesn't have to force the ball.
Saban is obviously over Coker.

Could be. If Barnett was really the first guy up after Coker with the ones, that may say a lot about how camp has gone to this point.
This thing is so wide open. Really hope one of the guys shows up and "grabs the bull by the horns" at the next scrimmage to settle this. The quicker the better, 5 guys sharing reps isn't ideal. Whoever the guy is it'd be nice if he got all the reps the final two weeks leading up to the opener, but that all hinges on that guy making a statement in 6 days.
It does seem like even Saban knows this team is just a QB away from Glendale.

at this time last year the doomsday crowd was all worried we did not have a QB. I think he is keeping everyone hungry and that they know who the top 2 are. He did say they were going to have to narrow things down soon so the top several could get most of the reps. Who nows but Alec Morris may be it. He has been in the system the longest and I dont recall him looking bad in the spring
Posted on 8/16/15 at 12:18 pm to mrbroker
Right, right. All 5 seem like possibilities right now. This thing is wild. Just gonna sit back and watch

You're high if you think Morris or Bateman is going to be the QB. I didn't say that about sims because sims can run. Alec Morris looks like he should be working at jiffy lube changing my oil. Bateman needs to go ahead and see if he can line up a few sister wives. Barnett needs some packages. Cornwell will be a solid back up. Coker will do fine and throws a nice deep ball. Just needs in game experience to work on his timing and decision making.

No offense but Coker needs a whole hell of a lot more than that at this point if he can't decisively beat out a few freshmen and Morris. He most likely sucks more than we have been lead to believe and the coaches are still looking for some small glimmer of something to not have to start Cornwell or Barnett.

jesus christ, i didnt realize he was this big. i hope he has some of his brother's drive. recruiting sites say he runs a 4.68 and has a 40" vert.
Biggest knock on him was he was so thin out of HS, he looked pretty good otherwise. Played QB, so it speaks to his athleticism.
He had the speed, he just didn't have the power...

He's taken all 1st team reps. Please give us the run down on what actually goes on inside the program coach.

No he has not. He split first team reps with BB last scrimmage according to those who were there. By the sounds of it, Morris and Corn may get some first team work next scrimmage. Coker may very well start against UW, but to say he has been underwhelming thus far is an understatement. He should be tearing it up out there by now. He better have a great week this week, or we may never hear from him again.
