been thinking this for sometime, 35 is not a inside LB at the d1 level. Kid would be a solid H-back or old school full back. He could be a lot like Michael Nysewander.

Dale has been banged up since early in the year.

There was a lot of talent on that 2005 D, and we had good depth since our guys weren't being drafted early/hurt every year.

Lee has no flexibility and no lateral speed.

Of course, if Mack Wilson comes back and we don't have two other starters not play a down this year Lee would have been 3rd string.

Big fact is we've got to recruit better and make better coaching decisions in game and off the field.

I've said the same thing about recruiting and people laughed and yapped about our #1 recruiting classes. We have often suffered the last two years from players on defense being out of position, and that happened again yesterday. Recruiting great athletes isn't enough. You have to recruit guys whose football IQ is high enough to grasp the complexities of the defense, and then you have to coach them on the practice field. McClain and Hightower could do it. McClain commented after arriving in Oakland that their defensive playbook was much simpler than Alabama's.

"Saban said. “Based on the defense we called and the defense we were in, I thought we should be good. The quarterback pulled the ball down and scored a touchdown when the guy who had the quarterback didn’t take him.

LINK

Being young isn't an excuse. Rolando McClain could handle it as a freshman. So could Dont'a Hightower. Maybe some guys are overrated as recruits...you often don't know how good those high school opponents really are. More likely, we've done a bad job of coaching them when the get here.

And you're 1,000% right about Tua, regardless of what Saban said after the fact. Protecting him for the end of the season...Auburn and the playoffs...should have been the highest priority, and it was a foolish decision to put him back in against MIss. State, especially when he had already decided to take him out. He should have stayed with his first instinct.

I'm not as quick to throw Sark completely under the bus. Yeah, he made some bad calls, especially the second pick six, on first and goal. Just don't put Mac in a situation there where he can get you beat. Auburn's blitz was on him too fast, and he made a bad decision. It wasn't really a 14 point swing, because without the pick six, we don't get the Waddle TD KO return. But it was certainly a 7 point swing...instead of a TD for a TD, we'd have gained a TD. But Sark did manage to dial up 146 yards on the ground for Najee and 335 yards and 4 TDs for Mac. So it's not as if Sark called a shitty game all day.

I don't see this as the end of the run, or the beginning of a decline. For me, it seems a lot more like 2013-2014. Look at this two deep chart from the start of 2014, and you'll see some guys who were young and became pretty good in 2015-16, and you'll see some older guys who just weren't very good. I think we're in a similar place now.

Lee wasn't going to play this year until injuries decimated the guys in front of him. He needs to loose 15lbs and pick up a step or two.

I find it extremely funny in a sad kind of way that folks here that have never sniffed putting on a crimson jersey think they know so much.

Saban doesn't recruit any kid thinking he'll have to play them as freshmen much less rely on them to QB the defense.

Some of you need to step away from the board for a few weeks or months.

If they were overrated as recruits then the staff are the ones that did the overrating. Only Jennings and McKinney off of this defense could get meaningful playing time on any other defense Saban had after 07.

We can't tackle anybody, we can't stop anybody. Players are constantly out of position or missing assignments. I hate to bang on 35, but he's NOT an SEC LB I don't care how much more of the plays he understands than everyone else. This should have been evident by the Ole Miss game at the latest.

And the kicking game? Man frick. You can't tell me that there at least isn't a semi retarded Guatamalan fricking around on the Quad with a soccer ball that can make a fricking 35 yd field goal. How many years do we have to struggle with this shite? Yes, I get WR is hurt but damn. Let Perrine try.

Have you heard the one about the smart Bama fan that never sniffed a crimson jersey and couldn't handle the truth either. In the college game played today you better have some freshmen that can play and asap. Hell you will not have much of a SR class anymore because the best are leaving for the NFL. Talent isn't the only problem in Titletown. Without a doubt this is the worse defense since 2007 and the worst tackling team as well. Just a bunch of F grabbers.

Correct me if I’m wrong but isn’t Mizzou kicker from Alabama, McCann?

Isn’t Florida’s kicker Mcpherson from Ft.Payne, Alabama?

Notre Dame is from Tuscaloosa

DeLong was the 4th rated punter out of high school, ranked 2 spots ahead of the Aussie at Auburn who is currently ranked 27th in the country with a 43.8 yard average, yet he lost his job to a walkon. DeLong didn't just arrive in Tuscaloosa and forget how to kick. There's a disconnect between talent in high school and performance on the field at Alabama, and kicking isn't the only position. But everyone who's watched college football longer than 15 minutes knows that we need to emphasize finding someone who can actually coach kickers.
