I think our lbs are on a play to play basis hurting us far more than Domani is. He had some ugly plays. But he was put in tough positions way too often than a corner should because we let them easily get the edge all night

Deonte Lawson was taken out of every potential passing down last night. He is and has always been terrible at coverage.
He also doesn’t fill holes well and has zero explosion into the hole.
Justin Jefferson is about on par with Lawson and smaller.
Nothing against them, I don’t think it’s an effort problem. I think it’s a talent problem

Yet he almost had an early interception.

And wasn’t an obvious passing down. Plus, he is better in zone, tbf, man to man, terrible. But we don’t have that linebacker. Pierre is our best performing and most athletic lb. He has played better this year than our veterans. He’s gonna be tough later this year and next year if he can stay healthy.
I also thought that losing James smith hindered our defense hugely

As bad as we are against the run, it is probably time for the staff to consider if playing younger guys would result in better play. Lawson and Jefferson are probably two our weakest players on defense though I think some of it is scheme. Tough to be where you need to be when your DC has you mugged up in a gap getting lost in the wash on runs to the edge.

We have played quite a few. It appears we are rather untalented

Lawson looks worse than last year and has an injury excuse at least. Jefferson seemingly just regressed. We really miss Campbell. As good as he was, it is possible that his impact on making this scheme barely viable was underestimated by us. We miss his ability to be able to make up for a poor first step with pure athleticism. Guy could simply cover the field sideline to sideline and nobody at LB on this roster has shown that ability.

Domani sucks in run support.

I think we're asking too much of our dbs. Ours ends and lbs should be setting the edge. Dbs are having to cover and set edges? Just think they are not being put in position to make positive plays.

Yeah that's my point, sometimes your corners are going to have to tackle. Everyone has to tackle to be a good defense. However, we put DBs in some shitty situations way too often in this scheme.

This league you have to put your nose down as a boundary corner or you won’t last.

This is the correct take. He's the best cover guy so he's going to have to play the boundary corner, but that means he also has run responsibilities when the formation dictates it. UGA put us in a bad spot a few times because of formation, but there isnt a scheme that any DC could call quickly enough to flip him to the field when that happens.

I rewatched the game last night….the majority of their big gashing plays were frick ups by Domani. Run and Pass. He was TERRIBLE in run support with awful angles.

I wouldn’t mind starting Dijon Lee in this Vandy game. He was solid in the run support.

That is hard to even imagine. All those guys were four-star or better recruits yet here we are talking about how "untalented" they are. What happened? LOL!

What happened to Red Morgan? I think I remember him putting some wood on folks last year. Is he in the rotation?

Domani Run Support

The first big run by #33 for UGA, it looks like Domani gets frozen, not knowing if the back is going to run it inside or bounce it out, and then was a step slow in reacting.

The second video with Stockton running the QB draw, #11 had a chance to make a play. #0 and #10 both get eaten up.

Domani ultimately blew contain in both of those videos, but we need some more physical ILB play in addition to DJ playing much tougher (or let Lee Jr. play).

Injuries, transfers, poor recruiting and evaluation and the biggest factor l, we are very biased and judgmental. Comes with the territory.
But it’s who we have

the TV showed the coaches looking at him and pointing to themselves saying that is on us. Or that is on me. I think it was a call from the coaches that he either missed or they screwed up

I don’t judge secondary guys for anything other than effort and angles for that reason: without knowing the call I don’t know whose fault it really was.
