This team should be substantially better than last year for a couple of reasons. In my 75 years following Alabama football I have only seen them beaten physically about a dozen times including the sanction years. Last year South Carolina hammered Bama physically and should have won that game. I hope we do not witness that next year from any team. Their physical approach to the game this year will tell you all you need to know about DeBoer.

Vandy: 11am kickoff against a veteran team with a middle aged QB coming off a war against UGA
Huh? Vandy isn't going to be an 11am kickoff...it's either afternoon or night.
I'd say 10-2 and in the playoff. At Georgia will be a tough one...no reason we shouldn't be favored in every other game...LSU might be a toss up.

There is probably realistically 3 games we could lose:
UGA
LSU
USC
Maybe second tier:
UT
Missouri
Vandy
Now we could lose to anyone, but those seem to stick out as a fight.
FSU will come out swinging but I think we roll them.
Honestly if the defense is good, and we aren’t dumb on offense with all these playmakers we should be fine.

So our schedule this season is almost identical to last year, swap out FSU and South Florida, and the rent a wins are different teams.
The road schedule I think is significantly more challenging this season.

Last year was the favorable SEC schedule of this pair of H&Hs. Then we added a true road game to Tallahassee on top of it. This schedule is significantly more difficult than last year. I’ve been saying that Alabama could be better than last year and end up going 8-4 against this schedule. I think the books have Alabama at 9.5 wins and it feels right on target to me. We are likely to be a fringe playoff team needing to win 3 of 5 true road games plus undefeated at home to make it.

Alabama has historically been a great road team. They have a winning road record vs every SEC program, not counting OU and UTx yet. (Counting Bham games vs AU alternately as home/away.) They have a better road vs home record vs some, e.g., LSU, UF & likely others.

Right but I think every loss decade has been on the road or neutral with 4 last year. Furthermore, many of their road wins have been incredibly sloppy. Alabama is not the road team that they were in the 2010s. They're basically sort of par with field in that respect, so you've got to expect winning 3 out of 5 against power conference competition is going to be difficult. Not impossible but it is likely the critical factor in deciding this team's playoff participation.

So in your brain Bama blew it last season with a favorable schedule, but this year the same schedule is a tough schedule? It's the same schedule, if not slightly easier.
If you think UGA and AU both on the road instead of both at home are "the same schedule", you clearly don't do football very well.

But UT, OU & LSU (despite the spectacular success in BR) will be easier. That was 2 of the losses last year. Alabama has won their last 2 in Athens vs highly ranked teams; the same vs AU, though the teams were not highly ranked. Bama has won 4 of 6 in J-H. Wommack’s D is far more effective than Saban’s vs Freeze’s O. Also, should not have CNS’ nerves vs AU.
