This is long but from a very trusted insider last week.......
Our WR class should be wrapped up by this time next week. Anticipate us finishing with Cedarian Morgan, Brian Williams Jr, and Owen Cabell. This staff definitely has a WR type that they love with the smallest of this group being 6'3. Also, the LB Xavier Griffin should be announcing for Bama this Sunday. This has been a BATTLE behind scenes. Like with our recent 5 star addition at RB, EJ Crowell, Texas has been pulling out all of the stops, and offering crazy amounts of money. The familiarity with the state, originally being from Alabama, development and scheme fit, and relationship with our staff is what put us over the top. He and his mother are also huge Bama fans which is always a plus, but doesn't guarantee you a kid in today's recruiting landscape like it did before NIL. Huge recruiting win for this staff. Also, anticipate us adding 5 star safety Jireh Edwards when he announces in July. We could potentially be done at DB after his addition unless a CB or S that you just can't turn down decides to double back. Offensive line wise, we have two really good guard prospects in Chris Booker and Sam Utu. Both are projected at guards, but also are versatile and have the ability to play tackle. Utu was recruited as a tackle/guard, and UGA was trying to flip Booker and was talking to him about playing tackle. Really good evals by this staff especially Booker. We were on him and took his commitment before other big schools got involved. At tackle, things aren't as clear, but I anticipate us taking one and being done. Deacon Schmitt will most likely not be Bama. I think Oklahoma has the edge, but don’t quote me on that. I hadn't been updated on his recruitment in a while. Once a kid starts leaning elsewhere unless I hear something different about us having a shot, I stop asking for updates. The staff would have loved to have Malakai Lee who committed to Michigan yesterday just like the DL Titan Davis who committed to Michigan earlier this week. The staff will stay in communication and still pursue especially in Davis's case. I think our best shot at OT right now might be with our current TE Marshall Pritchett's old high school teammate Wilson Zierer. This is shaping up as an Alabama vs Auburn battle. He really like Auburn's aviation program. We don't offer that at Bama, but did present him a really good alternative major that has him thinking hard. On the defensive line front, We lead for Nolan Wilson, but this will be a battle with Miami and Ole Miss. This is another one where relationships might win out. We were in on him early before everyone else. Also believe that we lead for Tank Jones. He is being recruited as a Wolf LB, but also our Bandit position. The staff could see him growing into a defensive lineman like LT Overton since he is already 260 as a senior in high school. Like I mentioned above, Titan Davis was a big miss on the defensive line front, but we positioned ourselves nicely with other prospects.

Yet again the UA BOT were so shortsighted with what they wanted UA to focus on that they may miss the boat with several students. I have seen many high schoolers especially from AL and GA say they want to major in Aviation and go to AU. Is it really that difficult to get an Aviation program at UA? Pharmacy? Veterinarian studies?

If UA wants to be an elite research university, they’re going to have to add medicine program beyond making RNs and NPs.

Yes, those are some of the most difficult programs for a college to start. One is an oversaturated market with the programs that already exist similar to Law, the other 2 are really expensive and require specialized faculty and a large amount of space. Then once that is done you will need to deal with getting it approved by the school which will bring in University and state politics due to it being competing programs. Would be fun to have them though.

Courtney Morgan knows how to identify talent.
One thing is certain just because they're 4 or 5 star doesn't guarantee they'll pan out.
If he really has an eye for talent or a system of people who can identify talent it will be like having Saban level recruiting before 2020 (more talent misses) all over again.

You don't need a Med School to be an elite research institution, but you will need to be more STEM focused in your research. With that being said nobody's becoming an elite research institution anytime soon unless you doing some outer worldly private fundraising.

If Michigan gets hammered by the NCAA, maybe some of their commits will reconsider their options. With NIL being the driving force, maybe not, though.

Why would they get hammered by the NCAA?

Hopefully the new president focuses hard on STEM programs...especially engineering. UA Engineering has better facilities today than auburn does I've been told...and it's the older of the two programs...just hadn't had the focus in previous decades. Bama was business and law and auburn was engineering and agriculture.

When I was there, Dr. Karr was the Dean of Engineering and was great for helping the college with the growing enrollment goals and although he could be rough around the edges was a really engaging and genuine guy and would do anything for the college. Not sure how much focus was put on building graduate level research programming during that period of time. He retired a few years back but ended up as the UAH prez currently. Not sure what the Eng school is like now, both Auburn and Alabama were interested in my cousin for engineering, but Auburn put on the full court press and he chose them. He finished up, went into the Navy as an officer and will be a nuclear engineer.

CoE is trying to hire significantly more faculty. The research dollars and publications are up significantly. Expect the college to be around a top 50 engineering school in USNWR rankings soon.

IMO he’s a real lunchpail guy. Kinda like Gehrig Deiter or maybe Sam Collins.

My son toured the CoE and really liked it at UA. Unless someone else makes an offer he can't refuse he's going there.

Always wondered what Craig Sanderson would've done if he could've stayed healthy.
Still think the old artificial turf took him out.

Our next Sam Collins, Will Oakley, Gehrig Dieter, Slade Bolden, or richard mullaney. A real workout warrior, maybe not very athletic but super smart.
