Huge pickup. Kid is a beast. He's all over the field on his highlights.

Originally committed to Michigan in 2022 and then signed with Oklahoma when Harbaugh was waffling between the NFL with the Vikings on NSD. Venables recruited him

He was a project then and maybe a COVID miss by the services, but safe to say he looks filled out. Surprised he didn't have more offers

Regardless, we need DL next year with some potential departures so a plug and play somewhat developed guy is huge

Edit: Also worth mentioning he almost went to UW after Morgan went from UM to UW. So there's a scouting connection here

2025 Top247 update: Next wave of five-star superstars comes into focus, player comps picked for top 32

quote:

Keelon Russell continues to make the case that he's one of the best pure distributors to come out of the high school ranks in recent years. He also continues to make the case that he's an elite playmaker for the position that knows how to feather the fine line between risk and reward. Through five games this season, Russell has thrown 25 touchdowns to just one interception while completing 75 percent of his passes. He's blessed with track speed and will put defenders on skates as he dances away from pressure, but tries to win from the pocket more times than not. Russell has posted a 34-1 career record as the starter at Duncanville, which is even more impressive when you consider all the stiff Texas-based competition that the powerhouse faces on a week-to-week basis.

Michael Carroll earned a 5th star on 247Sports and is now ranked #13 overall.

quote:

IOL Michael Carroll (Alabama commit): The only piece of the puzzle missing to officially stamp Carroll was an in-person evaluation. We finally got that after he transferred into Bradenton (Fla.) IMG Academy for his senior season. An elite puller, Carroll is an offensive guard with offensive tackle size at a verified 6-foot-6, 315 pounds that loves to tattoo defenders any chance that he gets. He always seems to be in control of his body and is rather clean in his pass sets at this stage. IMG Academy served as a temporary home for Evan Neal, JC Latham, Tyler Booker, Francis Maugioa and Jordan Seaton. Carroll is next up.

Player comparisons for the top 32 recruits

quote:

3. QB Keelon Russell (Alabama commit) - Jayden Daniels

Russell might not run for 3,000 yards in college like Daniels did over the course of his college career, but the way he avoids sacks and spins away from trouble is eerily similar to that of the Heisman Trophy winner.

quote:

9. EDGE Justus Terry - Jalen Carter

Carter was a bully at the point of attack in both high school and college that could also win with snap anticipation and a slick get-off. Carter is another ox in the middle with rare twitch for a player of his stature.

quote:

13. IOL Michael Carroll (Alabama commit) - O'Cyrus Torrence

Two modern day giants that off the hoof look like they should be playing tackle, but have found a home at guard. Torrence exited high school a bit heavier, but stylistically the two are very similar.

quote:

15. CB Dijon Lee (Alabama commit) -Tacario Davis

Lee is a unicorn of sorts as he's legitimately pushing 6-foot-4. He's ramped up the physicality as a senior and could settle in as a safety, but he's worth a look on the perimeter like the 6-foot-4 Davis at Arizona.

quote:

20. OT Ty Haywood (Alabama commit) - Tyler Smith

Haywood should offer some position flex for the Crimson Tide and could start off on the inside before eventually moving outside much like Alex Leatherwood did. Smith has similar guard/tackle versatility.

quote:

22. WR Caleb Cunningham (Alabama commit) - Kyren Lacey

Lacey has settled in as a hero at LSU following his walk-off touchdown against Ole Miss. Cunningham shares a similar basketball background and can provide explosive plays as he mixes gears while getting vertical.

Sophomore Spotlight: Scouting top 2027 running backs

quote:

CJ Cowley (Birmingham, AL)

Player comp: Travis Etienne

They don’t call it all-purpose back for nothing. Cowley has been a big-time weapon for Birmingham (Ala.) Spain Park on the ground, through the air and on special teams. He has excellent vision and hits the hole downhill with a lot of speed. He’s very quick and agile and does a really good job making guys miss in the hole and in open space. He’s got hands like a receiver and also does a good job blocking. He’s a real do-it-all back.

Like all of these prospects, Cowley is still young and is splitting carries behind a senior starter, but you can expect to see an increased workload next year. Cowley has 16 total offers, but his recruitment has been a little slow due to him splitting carries. His talent is undeniable and the offers should pick up soon.

quote:

Ezavier Crowell (Jackson, AL)

Player comp: Marshawn Lynch

Beast Mode has been reborn. The four-star athlete is a very hard runner who, more times than not, is dragging multiple would-be tacklers on his back. He’s got great strength and balance, which makes him a nightmare to bring down. He has an elite combination of speed, vision and acceleration, which makes it look as if he’s been shot out of a cannon when he hits the hole. He runs hard downhill with power, but also has the speed and flexibility to get on the edge. Crowell has all the potential to be the next great running back in college football.

Crowell has been a busy man so far this season. He’s taken visits to Alabama, Auburn, UCF and Mississippi State. With 24 total offers, it’s good to see Crowell taking so many visits, doing his due diligence and enjoying the recruiting process. I expect he’ll be taking more visits as the season goes on.

Midwest Rumor Mill: Latest news on some of region's top prospects

quote:

Dawson Merritt

The Alabama commit will be one to watch all the way through signing day in December. He’s still committed to the Tide and the relationship remains strong. However, there is significant momentum for coach Matt Rhule and Nebraska. Rhule and linebackers coach Rob Dvoracek were both at Merritt’s game on Thursday night. I’m told that gesture means a lot to Merritt and the only program he’d consider other than Alabama is Nebraska.

Mid-South Spotlight: Who is the next great ...... ?

quote:

KEELON RUSSELL: Alabama's next Heisman-contending QB

Five-star quarterback Keelon Russell has had an essentially flawless first half of his senior season. He has completed 75 percent of his passes to the tune of 2,291 yards and 31 touchdown passes with just one interception. The highly touted Alabama commit is commanding a high-octane Duncanville squad that is aiming for its third straight state championship at the highest level of competition in the Lone Star State.

Russell continues to show why Rivals has named former Heisman Trophy winner and No. 2 overall pick, Jayden Daniels, as the best comparison for his talent and skillset. Displaying a quick release and surgical accuracy, the 6-foot-4, 180-pound dual threat has been slicing through defenses. Playing with the skill talent Alabama has to offer, Russell will have every opportunity to follow the same path Daniels did at LSU.
