Yeah, that's what they are saying on Bamainsider or On3.

I like On3 and bamainsider but their recruiting info is no where near as good as 247 and as long as Chad Simmons and his ilk are running shite it will continue to be 3rd rate.

I think that they are doing better as they grow. 247 set a standard and it is hard to beat. As far as Chad Simmons goes, nobody likes that dude.

We are quickly going to have some depth and competition in the backfield. Will be a battle for playing time. Glad we pulled the two transfers.

Downs is the closest think to Minka we’ve seen. He is 100% starting and I’d wager a solid 100 bill on that.

Downs is the most physically talented safety on the team and it isn’t even close. He has intangibles that others simply don’t. There is absolutely no reason why he should not be starting in 2023.

That's great and all, but every true Freshman struggles at times, including Minkah.

Hunter Renfrow beat him like a rented mule in the 2015 national championship game.

Downs may start. He may not. My point was having Key on the roster gives us some depth we didn't have before he committed yesterday.

Minkah also didn’t enroll until summer 2015. Downs has been practicing with the team since the bowl game. His entire family played or is currently playing in the NFL.

I’m glad we have Key, I just don’t think he’s a threat to Downs in the slightest. I really think Story as our dime back is most at risk from Key. But it’s a win for us to have the competition and the depth regardless and they’ll all play on special teams.

We play 6 DBs on the field at the same time quite a bit. We'll do a little bit of rotating, even if not a lot (I know Saban doesn't do a whole lot of it before it's a blowout). We'll have injuries, probably.

I'd expect we'll see a lot of Koolaid, Arnold, Amos, Little, Moore, Downs, Key, and Story. A little bit of Pope and Devonta Smith. Kite (talented, still raw) and the other freshmen (Hubbard, Hurley, Ricks, and Mitchell... if he's still around) can take the year to develop. Am I forgetting about anyone on scholarship? That would be my guess as to the rotation.

This is how I feel about Trez Marshall and Justin Jefferson. Both will add special teams value at the very least. Anything else is gravy.

ILB could be much improved even after losing two starters. Rodney Orr posted he's hearing some really good things about Jihaad Campbell. Lots of talk about his special potential in the program. He, Lawson, Marshall, and Jefferson could be a really good two-deep. Lots of talent and speed in that group. And good depth behind them.

I have high hopes for Campbell. He looks like an elite athlete. If Lawson can stay healthy then there should be a seemless transition at the position.

I also feel really good about the outside linebacker position even though Will Anderson is gone to the NFL. Turner, Braswell, Robinson, Koht, Alexander, Russaw, Keeley and Pierre is a pretty formidable group.

I saw someone say Downs may be the best defensive player on the team after Kool-Aid and Turner. You can tell by the way Saban talks about him that he is ready.

Brad Crawford has been bashing us all offseason. I’d take his opinions with a grain of salt.
