Biggest Loss
quote:

LSU losing Patrick Surtain hurt badly, as the Tigers led for quite some time for his services, but they lost another recruiting battle against Alabama. Rumors regarding defensive backs coach Corey Raymond interviewing for other jobs could have been the key to the loss.

Mr Drama
quote:

Gators fans may not think there was any drama involved, but wide receiver Jacob Copeland was linked to Tennessee, Florida and then Alabama during NSD. Upon his announcement, his mother got up and left the table, seemingly upset with his choice of the Gators. Did Mom want Tennessee, as some have suspected? We may or may not find out in the end, but this was a dramatic decision.

Biggest In-State Loss
quote:

This hurts Alabama. Yes, Alabama is loaded with young guys at wide receiver, but the the Tide don’t have anyone with the size or build of Justyn Ross, and they rarely lose the top prospect in state. The last time they lost the No. 1 player in Alabama a kid named Jameis Wisnton went to Florida State and did pretty well.

Annual Saban Steal
quote:

After losing Bobby Brown to Texas A&M, it didn’t take very long for Alabama to regroup and grab five-star Patrick Surtain. The five-star was long thought to be a heavy LSU lean, so adding Surtain - while once again hurting the Tigers - is yet another major recruiting victory for Nick Saban.

Worst Kept Secret

While he supposedly considered both Miami and Alabama, Tyson Campbell seemed set to be a Georgia Bulldog for months. This just further solidifies an already ridiculously deep and talented class for Georgia, and it gives the Bulldogs yet another foothold in the Dade/Broward County area.

Flip Flopper

Four-star DE Bobby Brown was originally committed to Texas A&M, but with the coaching change there he ended up committing to Alabama. However, his heart always seemed to remain in College Station, so while it wasn’t a huge shock that he changed his pledge back to the Aggies on Wednesday morning, it was still a nice recruiting win for Jimbo Fisher and Texas A&M.

I think there’s a lesson to be learned in NSD 2017-18 and it is this: take great care when slow playing players that aren’t your top choice on your board. If the #3,4, or 5 guy wants to commit/sign early, think long before turning him away. With early signing kids have a much better picture of where they fit in everything and are acting accordingly. It also increases the feeding frenzy for the remaining players in Feb. There’s no sure thing anymore even more so than last year.

LSU and Bama both learned this lesson the hard way and at a high cost. Hopefully lesson learned with minimal damage done.

Marlon redshirted. Dee Milliner and Fitzpatrick are the only two that I know of.

Off the top of my head Dee Milliner, Crazy Tony started a few games his Fr. Year, and Minkah.

Kareem Jackson did too.

Marlon technically was a red shirt freshman.

Dee Milliner and Kareem Jackson started as true freshmen...

Also people need to remember that Surtain while having great ball skills may struggle to pick up the defense. Of course he could kill it as well.

This rivals site has the aids. It keeps causing my iPad to crash. I would use a laptop but I broke it over my knee years ago. Watching me deal with this stuff is like watching a Neanderthal act out Shakespeare.
