TS UT boards are saying D Wright did not make it to TTown. Can you confirm? Never really thought we had a shot with his HC.

All Hank had gotten from Darnell Wright's camp last week was "maybe" so I just now asked if he knows whether he made it. I'll update this when he answers. ETA: Hank - "He did not. At least not to my knowledge."

BREAKING: Alabama lands Peach State WR (BamaOnLine)

quote:

Alabama made another big splash in its 2020 class with its latest commitment. Four-star wide receiver Javon Baker announced his decision to roll with the Tide following his unofficial visit for the Iron Bowl.

The Fairburn (Ga.) Creekside product chose Bama over offers from Auburn, Florida, and Florida State to name a new. “It’s great,” Baker told BamaOnLine of his decision. “I’m just excited.”

The 6-foot-1, 175-pounder had his mind made up after visiting Tuscaloosa for the Mississippi State game earlier this month. “Just talking to my people and, I don’t know, just making that decision,” Baker said of what made him come this conclusion.

Baker waited until talking with Nick Saban at the Iron Bowl to announce his decision. “He was just excited,” Baker said of Saban’s reaction when he told him he wanted to join the class.

Alabama wide receivers coach Josh Gattis continues to succeed on the recruiting trail and is credited with landing Baker’s commitment. “He’s great,” Baker said of his relationship with the Tide assistant. “He’s like a family member to me.”

With nearly 20 offers to his name, what was it about the Tide that ultimately made Baker want to commit? “I just want to be great some day,” he said.

The Early Signing Period is still roughly 13 months away for the 4-star receiver. With that being said, Baker still plans to listen to other schools who continue to recruit him.

The Peach State product is rated the No. 23 wide receiver and the No. 131 overall player in the country, per the industry-generated 247Sports Composite Rankings.

247Sports’ Director of Scouting Barton Simmons had a chance to watch Baker play earlier this year and says he “plays strong and is precise in his ability to create separation.”

Baker is the second wide receiver to join Alabama’s 2020 class, Hewitt-Trussville (Ala.) product Dazalin Worsham being the other. Alabama is also in early on with 5-star wideout Julian Fleming, who is a teammate of Tide preferred walk-on quarterback commit Stone Hollenbach, 4-star pass catcher Rakim Jarrett, and 4-star Cali wideout Jermaine Burton, to name a few.

The WR position could arguably be the strength of the 2020 class as it was in the 2017 class that saw UA haul in a trio of 5-stars (per both the Composite and 247Sports) in Jerry Jeudy, Henry Ruggs III and Devonta Smith.

The Tide’s 2020 class currently ranks No. 2 in the nation, according to the 247Sports Composite Team Recruiting Rankings, with 10 commitments. Miami currently sits atop the standings.

Stay tuned to BamaOnLine for more reaction on the Tide’s latest pledge.

Hank: "Baker plays on Cam Newton's 7on7 team and started alongside Pickens and Haselwood. A ton of upside from talking to people familiar with him. Heard a Calvin Ridley comparison."

Might be hard if Locks takes a HC job like Maryland.

He is almost the Godfather of the DMV area, he's got so much pull...

Locksley isn't getting the Maryland job. Locksley's previous off the field and on the field issues when he was a head coach will prevent him from getting a job at Maryland who just fired their head coach for off the field issues that helped kill a kid. Locksley may get another shot at a head coaching job but it won't be at Maryland right now in my opinion.

Nakobe Dean: “I’ve got my top schools, but not really (leaning anywhere) right now. It’s definitely up there with the top (atmospheres), being such a big rivalry game and having a packed house. He (Saban) just reiterated that we want you and we need you and not to make the decision for anyone else, make it for you.

“Definitely the culture at Bama — the winning culture. It’s something I greatly respect. Just how comfortable I feel on campus and just how sure I would get developed, not only on the field but off the field also,” Dean said of why he could see himself choosing Alabama.
