Going to show my recruiting ignorance here so forgive me if I’m off base. Are we seeing our overall recruiting momentum slow?
It definitely fell off last year and coach made staff changes. A lot of negative recruiting going on last cycle as well. The the ESPN show was done to hit back at the negatives.

All of this being said, it is inevitable, in my opinion, for recruiting to slow down. Everyone wants to play with the best in the beginning, then everyone wants a shot at beating the best. As long as we remain in the top 10 (no less than 5), I think the ride continues unabated.

Bama is in good shape to haul in some 5-stars: Trey Sanders, Clay Webb, Evan Neal, Darnell Wright, Ishmael Sopsher, Nakobe Dean, Kayvon Thibodeaux and a decent chance to flip Akeem Dent. Antonio Alfano will likely become a 5-star and Henry To'oto'o might. Hopefully Pierce Quick remains one. Targeting elite 5-star talent entails battling other top programs for them and we just will not win all those battles. Realistically, I think we could end up with six 5-stars, maybe more.

This whole conversation is funny because you are both right but since we have to argue in absolutes we end up with this back and forth. Industries and professions differ. Some the degree is your basic entry into the field and everything else is determined what you do post graduation.

This is exactly what I have been saying.

I even pointed to the difference in specialization with journalism being very different from something like business law or cardiology (Surgeon).

The kid wants to work in journalism after his career. Going to Michigan isn't going to give him some advantage when his Journalism future is tied to his on-field success and the success of the programs he has been associated with.

That poster doesn't understand this.

You have been riding my pine forever. Starting to think you're gay. I'm not a troll and I've never done anything wrong except complain way too much but never have been booted or even warned so why

And as we all know, kids always stick with their original major and career path.

Look man, the kid chose Michigan because academically it is a better school than Alabama. 99% of the population can understand that decision.

Since I am that poster I will respond and as I pointed out UA does not even have the top journalism program in the SEC and UM is ranked higher nationally.

In regards to his on the field success he will not be measured by how many championships because if that was case every kid that has won one would be a household name but yet they are not. His success will be on what he does individually as a player and what accolades he earns along the way.

So if you think a player like J Peppers hurt is post NFL career for playing with UM no reason to even continue this discussion. If Hill who is rated just as high as Peppers is coming out of HS and has the same type of career it will not matter where he plays as his name, not the college he attended, will get him the job he wants after the NFL.

Why do some posters find it hard to understand that just because you play football at UA it does not guarantee you success outside of football. It is not a golden ticket like some seem to think.

Does going to Michigan guarantee a successful career?

Also who claimed it was a golden ticket?

We are speaking about a specific situation here. One where the jid eas convinced a Michigan undergrad degree in journalism is more valuable than an Alabama degree in journalism PLUS the national exposure and successes that come with playing for Saban and winning a Championship with Alabama.

If you believe that then, I feel for you because it makes me doubt your world view and experience.

We aren't talking about chemical engineering... we're talking about journalism for a kid who obviously wants to use his football experience, personality and fame as a foundation for this after his playing career is over.

Damn it Garfield, I've been busy all day and taking in this back and forth was going to be my reward. I need at least a few more pages. Don't cut me off, I need this.

As a quick aside about journalism programs: Syracuse has been consider the top journalism school in the country for decades. Mizzou is generally second or at worst top 5. We are not generally ranked well, but considered one of the best resourced programs in the country. If you ever get a chance, tour the facilites in BDS they are outstanding. I don't know anything about UMs program.

I think UA right seems to be putting in a lot of money to all programs and it helps do to the success of the football program.

But to help out Carlton lets look at the dialogue in their recriting talk for example.

Hill-Coach early playing time is important

Saban- Opportunity is there if you earn it

Hill-I want to play in the NFL

Saban- shows him Minkah and says this could be you

Hill- I want to win a NC

Saban- Every recruiting class has

Hill- I want to go into journalism after I finish my NFL career

Saban- shows him Andrew Bone(UA graduate)a professional HS recruiting stalker

Now meeting with Harbough

Hill-Coach early playing time is important

CJH-As you can see we need help in your position so the opportunity is there

Hill-I want to play in the NFL

CJH- shows him Peppers and says this could be you

Hill- I want to win a NC

CJH- You can help bring UM back to the top and have a chance to win one here

Hill- I want to go into journalism after I finish my NFL career

CJH- shows him Rich Eisen(UM graduate)top anchor for the NFL network

Just Saying how I think that conversation may have went down.
