That ranking shite doesn't mean anything unless you're starting out as an intern or from the bottom, trying to impress and get a good start.
Once you enter the workforce it is about who you know, who you have worked for, what your skillset consists and how quick you are to learn and adapt.
That shite means nothing to a future millionaire who will be employing people or working as an analyst or entertainment personality.
You seem to not understand either what I am saying or the value of a strong alumni network. Alumni networks get graduates not only in the door but to the better jobs with higher starting pay. So it is who you know before graduating not who you know once you get out there. Unless you are talking about going back to your home town. And yes that network adds deeper connections to the internship opportunities as well. You are 80% more likely to find a job in your field via a college internship then you are not having one.
I see plenty of kids from one of the colleges I teach at get into top level jobs based on the alumni network. Those connections are far more valuable than you want to give credence to.
A 5 star recruit if legit will make it to the NFL and become a millionaire no matter college he attends. But having connections before you graduate is worth so much.

One more thing to look as well if that happens to be what they are selling. UA currently has(according to their site) 34,000 in their alumni association. The UA alumni association also allows fans who are not alumni to join. NC has 2 chapters and the one in Raleigh I am a member of along with the majority of the members never attended UA. UM currently has over 500,000 in their alumni network and has national recognition for its ability to get great jobs through their connections. They currently have over 45,000 that own businesses in all 50 states and around the world. Including many in the entertainment world. Just saying

Mid-Atlantic Spotlight: Five prospects with rising stock
quote:
It has been a busy start to the 2018 season and Rivals.com has been to games all over the Mid-Atlantic to check in on prospects. As a result, some prospects could see their rankings rise after the season. Here are five players that have impressed so far.

quote:
Antonio Alfano
Admittedly, we have tried very hard to not to go crazy with Alfano's ranking. He is a very good player that should have a lot of success on the field at Alabama because of his very fast first step and great strength. Alfano has that "alpha" mentality that should help him fit in with the other Alabama players. We've held ourselves back on Alfano's ranking because we wanted to see more consistency from him throughout the year. So far, so good on that front, but we'll be monitoring him all the way up to Signing Day.
What the frick does that even mean?
These clowns give a kid 5-stars based on one camp performance, but they want Alfano to show it on a consistent basis?
Who did Alfano murder in the past to make these recruiting services not want to rank him appropriately?

Southeast Spotlight: Whose stock is on the move?
quote:
Some states are as far as five weeks into the 2018 high school football season. So, who has looked good in the early stages? We examine the Southeast region to find several early season standouts from the 2019 and 2020 classes whose stock is on the move.

Robby Ashford
We saw him early in the season and he did not disappoint. It was his first start and Ashford made the most of it. The two-sport athlete out of Hoover (Ala.) threw for over 300 yards and four touchdowns on ESPN against Pinson Valley. He has great size and arm strength and, if he plays this season like he did in game one, Ashford will find himself in the Rivals100. Auburn, Clemson (no offer), Georgia and Mississippi State are high on his list. He grew up in a family of Alabama fans and the Crimson Tide are evaluating him.

Future Alabama and Auburn QBs pile up yardage, wins on Friday night
quote:
Alabama quarterback commitments Taulia Tagovailoa and Paul Tyson and Auburn quarterback commitment Bo Nix played aren't trying to out-do each other each Friday night.
But last night -- as the three played at three different stadiums in metro Birmingham -- they put up eye-popping numbers that showcased the threesome's skills.
Tagovailoa completed 31-of-42 passes for 507 yards and four touchdowns as Thompson christened their new on-campus stadium with a 35-21 victory over Oak Mountain.
Not to outdone, Tyson earned his first victory over powerhouse Hoover -- the team that beat Tagovailoa last week -- and the great-grandson of legendary coach Paul "Bear" Bryant finished 14-of-18 passing for 256 yards and two touchdowns in a 56-28 victory over Hoover.
Tyson's and Hewitt-Trussville's 56-points outburst is the most points ever scored against a Hoover team.
Nix, meanwhile, finished 30-of-41 passing for 409 yards and three touchdowns, while also running for a 1-yard TD in a 28-21 victory over Clay-Chalkville and Alabama defensive line commit DJ Dale. Nix did throw an interception.
Don't forget about James Clemens senior Jamil Muhammad, a Vanderbilt commit. He completed 6-of-10 passes for 121 yards, including TD passes of 7, 44 and 49 yards, and added touchdown runs of 7 and 75 yards in a 62-19 victory over Huntsville.
Quarterbacks are judged more on wins and losses than yardage, and all four earned victories on Friday night.

All you did is rehash what I already said; it helps you starting out.
However you barely focused the main point; the connections he will get from his NFL career and the money he will make dwarfs anything Michigan can do for him. In fact the connections and exposure he will get from Saban and Alabama is better for his area of specilziation (Journalism).
It would be one thing if he were aspiring to be a business lawyer or a surgeon.... however that isn't the case.
I get tired of hearing this narratice about alumni network pushed to discredit this university with rectuits.
A stronger alumni network is important for the student who is starting out from the bottom and looking to create connections. Not so much for the student athlete trying to go pro in three years and possibly looking to be an analyst or commentator when he retires.

When players especially that have parents involved they look at everything that can add value to attending a said college. I am sure just like Saban would tell them that CJH is telling them if the NFL does not happen due to injury or whatever that the degree and connections you have will be very important.
Maybe maybe not but I have to see something to back that. I have not seen any publication and just googled and went through about 10 that popped up and did not see UA listed as a top journalism school. I see Mizzou listed as one of the best and UF always popped up and saw AU and UGA but not UA. I also saw UM in the top 20. So not sure unless UA specializes in sports journalism more then the others but I know very little about the program from inside.

Who did Alfano murder in the past to make these recruiting services not want to rank him appropriately?
He didn't go to the Opening final in Dallas. They also knocked Pierce Quick just because he couldn't participate in most of it, and admitted as much in their rankings updates. Most of their decisions are based on feedback they get from the actual coaches who work those camps and know what they are looking at, and then again at the all star games. ESPN is associated with the Under Armour game and 247 with the Army game, so you'll also see their opinion of a player change based on which one he plays in because they have a vested interest in having "their" game loaded with 5* players. It's all bullshite basically. If Nick Saban thinks a high school recruit is elite, I don't give a frick what some dipshit like Mike Farrell or Tom Luginbarn has to say on the matter.

Think Hill was always leaning towards Michigan going by the fact that he made them his last OV. That is a great advantage in the recruiting game plus Harbaugh seems to be a great closer. He almost stole Najee at the last minute and did actually get the TE from Tosh's school De Lasalle. Really wanted this kid but oh well

Meet LSU target Ishmael Sopsher -- the nation's top defensive tackle
quote:
If you look at Ishmael Sopsher's scholarship offers, it's quite the impressive list.
And that's because the Amite defensive lineman is a consensus five-star prospect and the country's No. 1 defensive tackle. He has college offers from the biggest programs in the nation.
But even with those accolades, Sopsher puts his family above it all.
Sopsher explained that as a child he was picked on or bullied by other children, and that's one of the reasons he is extremely close with his brother, JUCO DL Rodney Sopsher, -- they only had each other, the younger Sopsher said.
The duo hopes to play together in college next year.
"He has a very good relationship with his older brother, Rodney. They actually had the opportunity to play together when Ishamel was a freshman and sophomore," said Amite head coach Zephaniah Powell. "They built a great bond."
Watch Ishmael Sopsher's full story in the video above.

This whole conversation is funny because you are both right but since we have to argue in absolutes we end up with this back and forth. Industries and professions differ. Some the degree is your basic entry into the field and everything else is determined what you do post graduation. In others your degree and many times your post graduate degree will not be the only determiner but will have a major influence in your professional outcomes throughout your career, especially if your career is in academia.
As far as just the academic piece it can matter but not as much as the Notre Dames and Michigan's of the world would have you believe. I always tell people Calculus is Calculus whether at Harvard or Idaho State. The difference is the faculty and the resources outside of the classroom including research, networking and professional opportunities. A degree in English from Harvard is not the same as a English degree from Troy.
In a number of professions the experiences or "degree" that the kid from Harvard will more often than not have a cumulative impact on thier career that the kid who went to Troy will not be able to reach. It is kind of like if you started a retirement account at 18 and a friend started it at 25 with a worse strategy than you. You both at the end of the day could have great retirement nest eggs but it would be extremely hard for your friend to catch your portfolio.
On the sports side even with Dax being a blue chip athlete out of high school his chances of becoming a millionaire or being well connected in a particular industry through athletics are higher than most but relatively small.
