I must admit, I like Ish's graphic/edit for this.

... Naturally, Booth, Vonta Bentley, Joe Ngata and Etinosa Reuben have garnered the headlines since the weekend, but Clemson advanced its standing with 5-star offensive lineman Clay Webb as well. Clemson247 reported on Thursday evening that he'd be making the trek with his mom.
I think it's fair to frame Clemson and Alabama as the frontrunners, although Georgia and Auburn are certainly in the mix and could pull rank over time. A decision isn't expected until after some officials this fall, and I think the longer this recruitment goes the better for Clemson.
What worked in Clemson's favor was the Tigers' ability to attack this recruitment from a pretty under-the-radar position. That's not really the case now after Webb camped at Clemson and elected to return for the All-In Cookout, but it stood true this spring when everybody had already penciled him in as an Alabama commitment.
Mom is a huge fan of Clemson. And sometimes that's all you need to win a recruiting battle. Todd Bates doesn't hurt, either. Talk about a job this guy has been doing on the recruiting trail. Wow...

Georgia fans are becoming unbearable. Win something before you start spouting off

Sopsher looks like one of the guys from season one of last chance U, but I can't remember his name. anyone else see it?
Also, the whole "my dad is taking over my recruitment and schools should talk to him" thing is likely nothing, but if/when he signs with anyone other than LSU there will be cries of "it's another Cam Newton thing".
As for Clay Webb, not even slightly worried. Makes too much sense for him to end up at Bama. I'd be surprised if it was elsewhere.

We need a big commitment, the UGA fans are getting too cocky. Some of them think they are going to get the #1 class. What's funny is LSU still claiming the 3 spot

Frankly, I'm not a fan of commitments right after big recruiting events such as cookouts and whatnot. It's easy for a young man's mind to be swayed when he's overcome with emotion and good feelings from things like that.
I'm not sure how many of those commitments actually stick in the long run. Maybe it's most of them; I don't know. I prefer guys to commit when they've had time to think about their options in a relatively clear manner. Seems like those are the best, longest-lasting decisions.

Oops. I'm sorry. I accidentally upvoted one of sean's posts. It was unintentional (fat fingers). I'll try to not let it happen again.

Walk on over into the room right next to you and ask if I'm fat. You'll get your answer.

LINK ]King Mwikuta gets homesick when he leaves Alabama (BamaOnLine-VIP)
quote:
... “I had so much fun. And really we didn’t even do nothing. I hung out with players and I saw Ms. Terry of course. I was happy to see her. Coach (Nick) Saban, he was happy to see me over there. Every time I get over there I hate to leave. I get homesick...
“I’m trying to recruit. Pierce (Quick), he can recruit like a coach. We’re just trying to get as many people as we can and that we know aren’t going to change up or anything like that. We’re starting to recruit 2020 now...
“At my high school now I play both outside and inside,” he said. “I think we need more inside ‘backers. If they need me to play I’m always up for it. Whatever they need me to do I’ll do it to the best of my abilities.” ...

They won the SEC Championship and pulled in the top class. That's a good start for Kirby. Compare that to L7U going in the complete opposite direction and still running their mouth.

Alabama a top school for nation's No. 1 DT
quote:
After originally planning to release a top five today, 5-star defensive tackle Ishmael Sopsher opted for a “Lucky 7,” which is cut down from 12 back in 2017.
The teams making the cut include Alabama, Florida State, LSU, Ole Miss, Oregon, Texas and Texas A&M.
The Crimson Tide missed Sopsher’s original top schools list last fall, but has gotten itself back into contention in the months since.
“Every time I go up there to Bama, it’s a fun place to be,” Sopsher told BamaOnLine earlier in the spring. “Coach (Nick) Saban, he’s a great guy to be around. They have tremendous coaching staff and they show it. They have great hospitality every time you come up. Really, the hospitality and seeing the players and coaches and how well they got along.”
Alabama has found success in the Amite, La. region in recent recruiting cycles. In the 2016 class, the Tide landed Shyheim Carter out of Kentwood as well as held a commitment from Joshua Perry who ultimately went to Memphis. In the 2017 cycle, the Tide signed 247Sports 5-star receiver Devonta Smith from Amite.
The Tide already boasts a strong defensive line class — headlined by elite defensive end Antonio Alfano — but remains on the hunt to get stronger.
Alabama last hosted Sopsher for A-Day. He is expected to return to campus this fall for an official visit prior to making a final decision on National Signing Day in February.
“I see a championship-winning team,” Sopsher said of what makes Alabama different. “I’m not trying to say anything bad about anybody else, but that’s just Alabama. They always go out and win championships. Really just the hard work and dedication that they put in. When you go up there there’s no playing around. It’s all about football.”
What will ultimately set one of the seven apart from the others?
“My key factors are going to be academics, coaching, and life after football,” Sopsher said.
The 247Sports Crystal Ball heavily favors LSU at this juncture with the Tide also represented among the predictions.
Another interesting factor in Sopsher’s recruitment is his brother Rodney’s recruitment. The former 2017 recruit is expected to play at Ellsworth Community College in Iowa this upcoming season and is in talks with several programs, including Alabama and LSU. The brother’s have stated in the past that they hope to play with one another at the next level. Could an offer to Rodney potentially seal the deal for one program with Ishmael? That remains to be seen.
At 6-foot-3.5, 334 pounds, Sopsher is rated the No. 1 defensive tackle and the No. 6 overall player in the country, per the industry-generated 247Sports Composite Rankings.
