Doesn't Bell have grade issues? He could be a risk to qualify.

Kaamar Bell is probably working hard to make sure he qualifies. Assuming Bama actually did let Jordan Davis sign an NLI, I doubt we'll see them repeat that mistake. They shouldn't let anyone who is a non-qualifier risk sign an NLI. Just save a spot and provide a letter saying you'll take him if he qualifies.

We just got another CB for Daxton Hill. This one was from an Ohio State writer.

The same dude put in a CB for Wandale Robinson to Ohio State FWIW.

No. 1 recruit Kayvon Thibodeaux took a visit to a school in Tallahassee...FAMU, that is

quote:

Defensive end Kayvon Thibodeaux, the No. 1 recruit in the class of 2019, took a significant visit over the weekend in Tallahassee. Thibodeaux spent the day at FAMU Saturday, one of the most notable HBCU’s in the country, located just miles from FSU’s campus. He essentially took a day trip to FAMU, flying into Tallahassee on Friday night to attend FSU’s “Saturday Night Lights” camp.

Florida State and FAMU have a unique recruiting relationship. Given that the two schools lie just minutes hours apart, Florida State recruiters since the Bobby Bowden days have made it known to kids how close the two school are:

The relationship that FAMU athletics has played in helping grow FSU athletics has been traditionally one-sided. Ask any Doak Boy and he will tell you that he has spent some time “across the tracks.” It’s been one of FSU’s de facto recruiting tools probably since Bowden was at the school, which is about the time that African-American players started coming to FSU in droves.

Tallahassee’s Southside, where FAMU is essentially located, is basically where a majority of the people who look like the players live in Tallahassee. It’s always been, “look we have diversity in the city, just come over here!”

“They treat us like our family when we got there,” 2019 QB Jayden Daniels told Tomahawk Nation in April of FSU. “They took us around to see different areas of Tallahassee and campus. We saw FAMU.”

Some may assume Thibodeaux isn’t considering FAMU very seriously, with offers like from FSU, Alabama, USC, LSU, Florida, and several others on the table. But at the end of the day, this is great exposure for an HBCU like FAMU, and it sounds like Thibodeaux had a great time.

“He is a really unique kid and very conscious of social issues,” SB Nation Recruiting’s Bud Elliott said of Thibodeaux. “I can’t discount that he legitimately considers FAMU. He spent much of the day there. Even if he doesn’t sign there, it gives FAMU publicity it can’t buy.”

Regardless of where Thibodeaux ends up, this is a pretty cool, and historic thing for both him and FAMU.

I didn't. From that BOL article, it sounds pretty likely that he might join our 2020 class. He said he has no concern about coming on board and competing with another QB commit.

On the 247 caculator, I cut Cheney and added Sanders, Webb, Wright, Sopsher, Dean, C Harris, Thibodeaux and Hill. Score = 330.47 (all time record); class size = 27 with 8 current 5-stars.

Thibodeaux has "social justice warrior" written all over him LOL And, he seems to have a romantic notion of HBCUs. I'm Black myself, attended an HBCU and then transferred to a PWI which is where I graduated from. So, I'm very familiar with how HBCUs recruit Black students especially those from out west and how they are using "faux" controversies of the present to appeal to notions of racial solidarity to recruit kids now.

I hope the kid comes to Alabama but I have the feeling it means a lot to him to attend a university like FAMU or if he goes the traditional big-time athletic school route it will be FSU. And, FSU will sell him on them having a Black head coach.

What we just saw UGA do this weekend, that’s what I would like to see after our Cookouts. Instead we get....crickets. Both Cookouts. Love our class so far and believe we will finish with the top class but these events have largely been duds for us. We need a closer on this staff to wrap up guys when they are excited on visits. Other schools do it a lot. We need to pick up our recruiting event game a bit. Sluggish even with this new, young staff.

Most of Georgia's announcements are coordinated. 6 others there could of committed today. UGA is making huge strides in the '20 class as well.

I think you are right on the head coach piece. After talking to you and looking at his timeline, I thought about Coach Taggert being a big draw for him as an African-American head coach. If he does go to FSU I think that will put it over the top. You are right about FSU being a big draw for a totally different set of reasons.

HBCU culture can be so pecuilar. Not knocking it by any means, it does a ton for a lot of people, but it can be so insular. My graduate school mentor got me an intership at Hampton and they just knew I wasn't one of them . I don't think I was down enough for the cause .

Bro, we are on the same frequency! I can totally relate to your Hampton experience. My experience at HBCUs is that they inculcate this as Larry Elder would call it a "living behind enemy lines" mentality in their students to believe that Whites are out to get them, use and abuse them, etc. But, then it was my experience that a lot of the children of HBCU professors and administrators go to elite universities including Ivy league schools. It's more of a racial con game going on at many HBCUs more than anything.

Had Thibodeaux visited Grambling I could understand because Grambling has one of the best young coaches in all of college football. He was the first coach to offer Josh Jacobs a scholarship, Isaiah Buggs considered them, they are starting to put a few kids in the NFL again, and they have a NFL GM as an alum I'd get it. I think Thibodeaux wants to be in Tallahassee.

Great job!
