Furthermore, that class would give us EIGHT 5-stars and a per recruit average of 0.9513.

Insane.

Top 25 recruits in Texas for the 2019 class

quote:

The 2019 recruiting process is heating up and the Top247 got a major overhaul this week. As a result, there was some movement in the 247Sports Composite rankings, so let’s check in on the top recruits from the state of Texas.

The Lone Star State is home to a trio of five-star prospects and 16 of the top 100 overall prospects in the country, according to the Composite. Of the top 25 recruits in the state, Texas A&M leads the way with six commitments, followed by Oklahoma with five and Texas with two, while Illinois, LSU, Notre Dame, Ohio State and Stanford each have one. Seven of the state’s top 25 prospects have yet to make a decision.

It should be noted that verbal commitments are non-binding and players won’t be able to make it official until the Division I Early Signing Period, which begins on Dec. 19, 2018, and ends on Dec. 21, 2018. Players who elect not to sign during the early period will be able to do so on National Signing Day on Feb. 6, 2019.

With that in mind, scroll down to see the Composite’s top 25 recruits in the state of Texas for the 2019 class and where things currently stand in their respective recruitments.

4* WR George Pickens 6-4/190 AL hudl

FWIW on Pickens. The concern with Pickens is his grades. They're supposedly REALLY bad. I'm sure we'll monitor up until the last possible moment. There are some people in his circle that want him at Bama. Whether we could ultimately flip or not is uncertain. But it will be a moot point if he doesn't have a really good Fall semester in the classroom.

20) Dylan Wright | WR | West Mesquite

247Sports Composite: 4-star (0.9445), No. 124 Overall, No. 21 WR

Recruitment status: Undecided

247Sports Crystal Ball: Texas 50% | Cloudy 17% | Oklahoma 8% | TCU 8% | Arkansas 8%

Recruiting summary: A 6-foot-3, 213-pound wide receiver out of West Mesquite High School, Wright holds 38 reported offers overall. Texas, Texas A&M, Alabama, Arkansas, Michigan and Oregon are among the programs currently in the mix. He’s yet to use any official visits thus far in his recruitment, but he took unofficial visits to A&M (June 8) and Alabama (June 15) over the summer. He plans to announce his decision on Jan. 4, 2019. As a junior, he hauled in 32 receptions for 545 yards and seven touchdowns.

247Sports Evaluation: Wright is a big-bodied wide receiver who is one of the top deep ball threats in the state of Texas. A true vertical field-stretcher who made the move to receiver from quarterback, so he has a cerebral approach to the game. Wright has tremendous leaping ability and his long arms supply a plus catch radius. Because of his overall upside and raw athleticism Wright is a prospect who will have national-level Power Five conference schools chasing him with offers. - Greg Powers

14) Jeffery Carter | CB | Mansfield Legacy

247Sports Composite: 4-star (0.9589), No. 80 Overall, No. 11 CB

Recruitment status: Undecided

247Sports Crystal Ball: Texas A&M 31% | Oregon 31% | Cloudy 25% | Texas 6% | Alabama 6%

Recruiting summary: A 6-foot-0, 180-pound cornerback out of Mansfield Legacy High School, Carter announced a top four on June 6 consisting of Alabama, Oklahoma, Texas and Texas A&M. He holds 23 reported offers overall. He’s only taken one official visit thus far in the recruiting process, a trip to A&M on April 13. He took an unofficial visit to Alabama on June 22. As a junior, he tallied 28 tackles, two interceptions and three pass breakups on defensive while catching 10 passes for 232 yards and one score on offense. At The Opening Finals in Frisco, he posted a 4.48 40-yard dash, a 4.33 20-yard shuttle, a 38.3-inch vertical and a 35.5-foot Power Ball throw, giving him a SPARQ rating of 107.85.

8) DeMarvin Leal | DT | Judson (Converse)

247Sports Composite: 4-star (0.9712), No. 53 Overall, No. 4 DT

Recruitment status: Committed to Texas A&M

Recruiting summary: A 6-foot-4, 280-pound defensive tackle out of Judson High School in Converse, Leal committed to Texas A&M on April 18, 2018. He picked the Aggies over offers from Alabama, Clemson, Oklahoma and Texas, among others. He holds 21 reported offers overall. His primary recruiter at A&M was tight ends coach Tim Brewster, while defensive ends coach Terry Price also assisted in his recruitment. As a junior, he tallied 66 tackles, 14 tackles for loss, two sacks, four pass breakups and two forced fumbles.

247Sports Evaluation: Leal is a versatile defensive line prospect who has the size to play defensive tackle and the explosion and quickness to play defensive end. He will have a quickness advantage when lined up on the outside shoulder of an offensive guard and can get pressure in the backfield consistently. As a run-stopper, Leal strikes quickly and uses his hands to control offensive linemen. - Greg Powers

Jerome Ford is pretty big. Also thought Parker would be a lil bigger.

Supposedly he was going to transfer away from Hoover & to Hewitt-Trussville to get eligible. Bucs apparently were able to convince him they have a plan to help him get scores he needs. But ya my understanding is there is some concern about his ability to qualify

Bama's staff is (supposedly) skeptical at the moment. They were 3/4 on estimating borderline guys' eligibility in this past class. Correct on Jobe (made it), JJ Peterson (utk.. didn't make it), and Nadab Joseph (UGa… didn't make it), and missed on Jordan Davis (didn't make it). Hopefully he gets eligible one way or another.

Your sure on JJ Peterson. The word is he will join their team for fall camp. Yesterday they were excited that he showed up on their media roster for the fall.

But our sites have not been as hopeful as theirs and latest interview seemed to look promising but then again every time he missed a summer term the next one looked hopeful as well.

I wasn't even aware anything had changed. There were posts a couple weeks ago that he definitively didn't make it. If something changed, then good for them for finding a way to get him eligible, because he had some Raekwon Davis level grades. Bama only managed to get Davis eligible due to a loophole (declared learning deficient... not sure how that actually works with admissions).

Seems to be a lot of transferring to HT (Tyson, Goodwin, Pickens) despite the fact that they don't accept transfers from outside their district.

I'd imagine they can find an apartment in Trussville.

He was suppose to come in for their first summer term but missed. VQ and his coach said it looked good for 2nd term, now they are saying in time for fall camp. I doubt he makes it at this point and if so will end up RS since he not been working out in their program.

Just messing with ya, Saint. It just struck me as odd in the context of a recruiting conversation.
