BOL has an update on Demetris Robertson

Is the update that he wants to play OLB? Otherwise, nah.

LINK ]Alabama LB Terrell Lewis suffers torn ACL (BamaOnLine)

quote:

Alabama junior linebacker Terrell Lewis suffered a torn right ACL last week while training, Crimson Tide coach Nick Saban announced Tuesday.

"Terrell Lewis suffered a torn right ACL last week while training," Saban said in a statement. "He underwent successful surgery today, and a timeframe for his return is unknown at this time."

Last year, Lewis missed 10 games after suffering an elbow injury against Florida State in the Tide's 2017 season opener. He finished the season seeing time in four games with one start and totaled 16 tackles, including two for loss, one sack and a pass breakup during his sophomore campaign.

Finally healthy this spring, the former 4-star recruit participated in all of Alabama's 15 practices, including the A-Day Game, where he registered one tackle. Despite his low totals, he felt good about his spring campaign.

"I feel like I haven"t scratched the surface yet," Lewis said. "I still feel like I haven't done a lot for this program yet, so I feel like the best is yet to come."

With Lewis' injury, Alabama is left with four experienced players at outside linebacker, including Christian Miller, Anfernee Jennings, Jamey Mosley and Christopher Allen. The Tide also welcomed Jarez Parks during the team's preparation for the College Football Playoff, as well as summer enrollees Eyabi Anoma and Cameron Latu.

On Monday, Saban also announced the dismissal of linebacker VanDarius Cowan, who has spent time with the outside linebackers in the past.

Alabama will open preseason camp early next month and opens the season against the Lousiville Cardinals on Saturday, Sept. 1, in Orlando, Fla.

This is like half a dozen major injuries to our linebackers in the last 12 months. It's ridiculous.

It makes no sense at all to consider spending a spot to add that guy. With Smith, Jeudy, Ruggs, Waddle and our other WRs, we don't need him at all. We need to take another LB or DL instead.

I know must don't want him because of the drama and our need at linebacker but my gut tells me he would likely be a definite take. When healthy the kid is electric. Our 3 top receivers are legit but if he every shared a field with Waddle down the road, used correctly that would be terrifying.

If we take any more hits to our LB corps, that would be much more terrifying, iyam.

We can win it all without him. Our chances of winning it all could drop a lot if we lose any more of our top LBs and have to trot out the LBs we have behind them.

And about a dozen more minor ones. Goodness gracious. As bad as this is, it's not as devastating as If it happened at...

Oh nevermind, I can't even say it. It would inevitably happen next.

No sugarcoating this, unfortunately. He was ranked the best player on the team after Spring. A likely top 10 pick. I probably don't even need to say that if the same amount of injuries happen this year to the LB unit as last year, we're in it pretty deep. That would seem to be 1 in 1000, but after this news, maybe The Curse is real.

What is his status for this season? Is he getting a hardship waiver or does he have to sit for a year? If he has immediate eligibility I'd agree with you 100%. A lot of people don't like him because of how shady his recruitment was, but the kid can play. With the other WRs we have on the roster it's not worth using a scholarship just for him to sit out for a year though.

With our LB depth situation, Demetris Robertson is not worth using a precious spot on at all, imo. We do not need him. We need to use that spot to take another LB.

No doubt, but we also can't just pull linebackers good enough to play Saban's system out of the sky.

I don't know the numbers, Tidal can give his opinion cause he knows it better, but it is starting to look like that we will be able to take up to the 28 in this class and still have a spot for him. He will take a scholarship for 2020 if he chooses to stay but we likely sacrifice an OL or WR in that class to have him on board.

Again, I'm not advocating we take him, I just think we would cause I'm not sure it really impacts the LB numbers/recruitment.

ETA: As far as I know nothing has come back on his eligibity for this season. I don't know the rules but I think he might be candidate for a medical redshirt because of last year's injury.

Any transfer taken, such as Demetris Robertson, counts against the 25 signees per academic year limit and 25 initial counters limit for the year in which he enrolls on a scholarship. I'm pretty sure sitting out and/or redshirting would not enable us to defer him to count against 2020 limits.

That's why I said it's not worth it unless he'd be immediately eligible. We have the space, and the kid can play. He's probably going to go pro after this season. It's too late to add anyone at LB now for 2018 who wouldn't just be a warm body anyway. It's not worth it to have him sitting on the bench and using a scholarship in 2019 though.

Frick us. It’s 2017 all over agin we have no depth. And it’s always our best pass rushers.

If we take Demetris Robertson it will take away one spot that could've been used to sign a 2019 recruit who has 4 years of eligibility. It makes no sense whatsoever to do that, imo. Zero sense.

Honestly, don't shoot me Tidal, I think he would get M.Wright's spot if they are holding one for him and they would make adjustments from there.

I'll just put it this way. I'll be very surprised if Bama takes Demetris Robertson. I think that BOL article was mainly for clicks.

Stephen M. Smith of TD Alabama should have his football card revoked from him. He’s on twitter saying he thinks Lewis could be back by week 3
