i was just watching the film on dax hill. to say it was impressive, is way understated. he reminded me of the db that usc had when we opened up against them.

does bama have a legit shot at pulling him from away oklahoma?

if bama were to land both hill and stevenson,

LINK ]The Opening 2018: Alabama QB commit explains Tennessee visit (al.com)

quote:

Alabama quarterback commit Taulia Tagovailoa's visit to Tennessee earlier this month sent shockwaves through the recruiting landscape.

Could he flip from Alabama to Tennessee? If so, what would that mean for first-year Tennessee coach Jeremy Pruitt's rebuilding job? And what could Alabama national title game hero Tua Tagovailoa, Taulia's older brother?

Rest easy, Alabama fans. "Yeah, I'm 100 percent committed to Alabama," Taulia said today at The Opening in Frisco, Texas.

Taulia is one of eight Alabama players, as well as several other Alabama commits, competing at The Opening, a Nike-sponsored recruiting event that features about 160 of the nation's top 2019 prospects. Today's two-hour workout -- open to reporters inside the Ford Center at The Star in Frisco, Texas -- featured only quarterbacks, receivers and tight ends.

Taulia explained he has a strong relationship with Pruitt, a former Alabama assistant, and offensive coordinator Tyson Helton, who doubles as the Vols' quarterbacks coach.

"I feel good about my commitment to Alabama," he said. "Going to Tennessee, it was great. We're real close to Coach (Jeremy) Pruitt and Coach Tyson. Going there, it I was a lot of fun."

Yes, he saw the uproar his visit caused for Alabama fans. "I didn't really let it get me," he said. "It's something my dad wanted to do. If my dad wants to do it, I'm going to support him."

Taulia threw for 3,823 yards and 35 touchdowns at Thompson last year, won the Class 7A Back of the Year award, and finished third in Mr. Football voting. Thompson won 12 straight games before falling to eventual Class 7A champ Hoover in the playoffs. "In my senior year, my biggest thing is to win the state championship," he said.

RELATED: Photos from today's The Opening workout

After today's workout, Taulia was asked a series of questions about his brother and his future:

Q: How do you describe yourself as a player? "I see myself as a pocket passer with the ability to run and extend plays."

Q: What's your relationship with your brother, Tua? "Before we started out played football, we did not like each other. I'm the younger brother. Now that we're older and more mature. I love him. He gives me advice. I give him advice sometimes, too."

Q: What influence you to commit to Alabama? "Just seeing my family happy and seeing what Tua did in the national championship and just seeing the work ethic over there and the environment over there."

Q: What was the national championship game like for you? "It was real emotional. When he finally got a chance to play, he made good use of it. Just seeing him happy, that's all I want for him."

Note: In his interview in a BOL-VIP article Taulia spoke more in depth about how strong his commitment is, how happy is family is about it, how he loves being at Bama, how close he is with the players and recruits, including Paul Tyson (they're roomies at The Opening), etc.

“100 percent. I'm going to be with my brother. My family is happy... I’m over there every weekend. It’s a family environment over there. For sure, I’m going to play at Alabama under Coach Saban, and we’re going to win a lot of championships.”

It'd be a wasted effort. They will refuse to be spared from overconfidence and later letdowns.

#grumors #offseasonchamps

ETA: Not all VN posters are unrealistic about their chances of flipping Taulia, with little to no tolerance for any posts to the contrary. But a lot of them are like that. They'll either dismiss or attack any post and poster of something that's not what they want to hear.

They pump so much orange sunshine to each other, they've convinced themselves of stuff like Quavaris Crouch, Darnell Wright, Khris Bogle and Henry To'oto'o are all silent commits, that they'll flip Taulia from Bama and Pappoe from Auburn, and definitely sign a top 5 class.

ETA: Obviously, that doesn't apply to all the VN posters, but it does apply to a lot of them, imo. Last winter a lot of them fully expected UT to land a lot of the big talent Pruitt was after. But almost all of those became whiffs on NSD. There's really no way to project at this point if that'll happen again. Pruitt is doing pretty well in recruiting so far in this cycle. But how well UT's recruiting plays out will likely depend a lot on what the perceived outlook becomes for UT's program as the 2018 season plays out.

2020 #1 DT QB Bryce Young named his top-six: Alabama, Oklahoma, Penn State, Texas, USC & Washington. Young plans to make his decision later this summer. He visted Bama once in Dec.

It's been a long day. I read that twice, then I had to click to see what a defensive tackle/quarterback prospect looked like.

Looooong day.

What part of Arizona? If near Tucson, you'll be getting plenty of it in about three weeks or less when the monsoon season rolls in.

Ha. In all seriousness, Tucson is a very pretty area of the country. Very nice desert scenery that is mostly surrounded by mountains. Green Mountain is very nice. The average age In the town that my aunt and uncle lived in for a few years there (Sahuarita) is something like 75.
