Five-star DT breaks down his top five
quote:
Faatui Tuitele is down to five.
The five-star defensive tackle from Honolulu (Hawaii) St. Louis announced on Monday that he had trimmed his long list of suitors to just a handful of programs heading into the summer.
Alabama, Clemson, Ohio State, Texas and Washington are left standing among an offer sheet that has surpassed the three-dozen mark for the nation’s No. 2-rated defensive tackle, per the 247Sports Composite.
The 6-foot-4, 299-pound prospect took unofficial visits to Alabama, Ohio State and Texas this spring, and made it to Clemson and Washington last summer. He broke down his five leaders with 247Sports.
-- Alabama: “They develop their players and prepare them for the NFL, which is my ultimate goal. Their success speaks for itself. I have built a strong relationship with Coach Tosh Lupoi, who is an outstanding person when you speak to him. Coach Nick Saban also cares for his players and coaches. Their programs are top notch.”
-- Clemson: “Coach Todd Bates flew down to see me this past spring ball, which meant a lot to me. You don’t see a coach often flying that far to Hawaii to watch a recruit. People at Clemson were very welcoming when I visited. I got to stay with Christian Wilkins overnight and he told me more about Clemson. Nothing but great people there with a great culture, great faith and great football.”
-- Ohio State: “The people there are down to earth. Talking and hanging out with Coach Urban Meyer really opened my eyes to a lot of things. He is a great coach but an even greater person. He was at Utah before, so he understands how Polynesians act and feel. Coach Larry Johnson has also developed a lot of NFL talent and understands the game well.”
-- Texas: “Coach Jake Langi and coach Oscar Giles are two guys who I talk to on a regular basis. They took time on their day off to show me around campus and tour the facilities. That part meant a lot to me. Not too many people will do that for a student-athlete. Watching film with coach Giles when I was on campus really showed me how great of a coach he is.”
-- Washington: “Coach Ikaika Malloe is one of the reasons that I chose U Dub to be in my top five. He’s from Hawaii, so he understands us and the struggle to expose our talents to the nation. He has been nothing but real with me since the first day. He really loves and cares for his players, and he treats them like they are his own.”
USC was a notable omission, given that the Trojans had garnered over 60 percent of the votes on the Crystal Ball and Tuitele had taken numerous trips to campus, including last weekend when he was in Los Angeles for a linemen competition.
Tuitele intends to take all five official visits before making a decision, with a time frame possible by the end of summer so he can focus on his senior season. He is the nation’s No. 24 overall prospect, No. 2 at his position and No. 1 in the state of Hawaii, per the 247Sports Composite.

I think it's a good sign. I can't think of a reason Saban would want do an OV that early unless he thinks it'll help Dean finalize his decision early. And it shouldn't cause any potential problems anyway, since UA is an easy trip for Dean and his family to visit as often as they want after his OV.
Dean visited UGA last weekend, Clemson on Monday, will visit FSU Wed night and Thursday, and may also visit ATM and UF soon. Stanford academics impress his mom, but Dean says he'll most likely sign with an SEC school. That string of visits might mean that he wants to make a decision and commit sooner rather than later.
ETA: Reliable insider: "There are a lot of teams with unwarranted confidence in landing Dean, but they will soon see."

Soon.
I won't lie though, Ika's one-on-one film is more impressive. I'm definitely hoping we take seven.
Tuitele
Sopsher
Ika
Pickering
Alfano
Dale

It would be awesome to just commit on the official. But maybe a silent would be better. Mississippi kids hard to hold onto early. Keep Ole Mis and MSU off his back til early signing period

TROY, AL -- After a near-perfect night in helping Hoover (Ala.) High cap the spring with a win over Snellville (Ga.) Brookwood High Saturday night, Will Reichard revealed how soon his recruitment is to come to an end.
The 6-foot-1, 185-pound prospect, who registered a touchback on every kickoff attempt in addition to making a 42-yard field goal attempt with relative ease (video above), also knows which program will add his name to the verbal commitment list in the coming days.
"I'm looking at committing this week," he told 247Sports. "There's not a date in particular but me and (Hoover head) coach (Josh) Niblett are going to meet early in the week to see how we're going to put it out. We're trying to see what the best way possible is.

"I already know where I want to go."
Long working with an All-SEC top three of Alabama, Georgia and LSU, it turns out Reichard has been leaning in one direction for quite some time.
"I fell in love with it," he said of his soon-to-be-public destination. "I just knew in my heart (the winning school) is where I needed to go. I've had this feeling in my heart, I would say, for the past couple of weeks. I don't really see it changing so I just kind of want to go ahead and get it locked in with the school I want to go to.
"That way, I can build relationships with all the coaches, not just the ones that are recruiting me. Also, the other players that are committed in the class."

The path to being one of the top kicking prospects in America, let alone being atop the depth chart at his own high school, has been a long road. Somehow, defending state champion Hoover HS had multiple Power 5 kicking prospects on its roster the last few years.
Reichard split time, including field goal kicking, kickoffs and even punting duties with Barret Pickering. The class of 2018 prospect was the No. 7 kicker in the 247Sports Composite before signing with Nebraska and enrolling on campus there in January.
But the next time the three-star prospect kicks in front of a large audience he will have plenty at stake. In 2018 Reichard will handle all of the kicking duties for one of the most followed prep programs in the country.
"It's basically a dream," he said following his final spring game before college. "This is something I've dreamed about since I was young so it's great to see my hard work is finally paying off. It's my senior year, time to have some fun."
"I'm just going to one showcase this summer, at the end of July," he said. "It's a Kohl's event for the Under Armour All-America Game."
Reichard is ranked as the No. 2 kicker on 247Sports as well as the the 247Sports Composite for the 2019 class. He tops the national rankings for noted kicking experts Chris Sailer and Jamie Kohl.
