LINK ]5-star CB Andrew Booth says Auburn ‘definitely’ contender after return visit
Auburn hosted Andrew Booth over the weekend.
Auburn hosted Andrew Booth over the weekend.
quote:
Welcome to SEC Country’s daily Auburn Tigers football recruiting notebook with Auburn recruiting beat writer Benjamin Wolk. It’s Monday, and 5-star cornerback Andrew Booth recaps his most recent visit to campus.
AUBURN, AL — For a 5-star prospect, Andrew Booth sure knows how to fly under the radar. The Archer (Ga.) cornerback doesn’t attend many national camps in search of recruiting service attention. He won’t pride himself on his performances at any of those events, if he happens to attend.
Booth understands football is an 11-on-11 sport, and it’s in that arena that his football success truly matters. Booth’s mentality is a big reason why he has emerged as the nation’s No. 1 cornerback. It’s that mindset that has Auburn, Clemson, Florida State, Georgia and Tennessee fighting for Booth’s commitment.

“College coaches just like my swag, just how I play the position,” Booth said. “I don’t play it like any other corner. We play different. I step out different. I’m not afraid of anybody, but God, of course. It’s that confidence I step out with every night. They like my personality, my physicality, how I play the DB position, my football smarts.”
When it comes to Booth’s recruitment, he doesn’t make much known publicly.
He estimated he’d been to Auburn three or four times this spring, but outside of one Twitter post — which he published a month later — Booth hasn’t said much about his Plains visits.
For that reason, Auburn has been spun as a team on the outside for the 5-star cornerback, with teams such as Clemson and Florida State ahead of the Tigers. Booth said that’s not the case at all.
“Auburn is definitely involved. It’s definitely relationships, the family feel. You know, every year, they’re going to be in the talk for championships,” Booth said. “Auburn is definitely one of the tops.”

The Auburn visit came at a particularly interesting time given the buzz earlier in the week. Five-star linebacker Owen Pappoe committed to the Tigers at the beginning of the week.
Pappoe and Booth have a close friendship, and Pappoe made it clear already that Booth will be one of his top recruiting targets. It took less than a week for the Tigers to get Booth and his entire family on campus for a visit.
Here’s Booth interpretation of how Pappoe’s commitment helps the Tigers for him. “It helps, but at the end of the day, we’re two different guys,” Booth said. “But you know, his position helps my position, and I help his. At the end of the day, it comes down to what’s best for me. He told me to do what’s best for you, but you know what it is.”
Booth would like to have a college decision before the start of his senior season. That decision could be made next week. Or it could be a week before the season. The latter is slightly more likely, but Booth is unpredictable and admitted he didn’t even know he was going on his Auburn visit until 1 a.m. the day before, so anything is possible.
He plans to make it back to Auburn for Big Cat Weekend on June 2. “It was beautiful. I liked it a lot. Relationships were definitely built,” Booth said. “I got to watch film. I got to chop it a lot with coaches, everybody.”
Note: The author CBd Booth to AU on Sat.

Nike Opening regional Dallas fastest man is Dax Hill. Was a photo finish with Derek Stingley Jr. · twitter video
3:16 PM - Apr 29, 2018

Hill had a 4.33 5-10-5 shuttle time, a 41.5-foot power ball throw and 43.6-inch vertical jump. His total athletic rating was 143.76, which ranks in the 99 percentile of all Nike-tested football players in the 2019 class.
Stingley had a 4.28 5-10-5 shuttle, 43-1/2-foot power ball throw and 42-inch vertical jump, earning an athletic rating of 142.74, also in the 99 percentile.

Damn that kid is all over the field. Pretty impressive for a kid his size. Wouldn't mind us offering.

Saw the talk '19 MS LB Derick Hall might be landing a Bama offer.
His highlights are pretty good, he's rangy and runs well. He's 6-5, but his wingspan is of a 6-8 player. He already plays in a 34 defense, and Pruitt is all over him about growing into a rush OLB.
He's AU's top want at the Buck spot. Apparently UGA is his dream offer so that's something to watch for sure

A 5 star CB to Auburn? Does not compute.

They occasionally get a 5 star LB, but a 5 star DB? That is almost unheard of.

DALLAS, TX – It was the most talented event of The Opening camp circuit. The fastest man competition featured four guys that ran sub 4.4 40s. The Opening Finals received a whopping 17 new invites from the day. If you aren’t elite, you aren’t standing out in this setting. These are the guys that stood out.
Alpha Dog
Nathan Pickering out of Seminary (Miss.) High School didn’t win every 1on1 rep he took on the day. But an undefeated record wasn’t far away and the style in which he won made him the most impressive player at the event. Pickering has elite edge speed and athleticism but I’m not so sure he doesn’t end up as an interior defender in college. Even though he’s still fairly raw, Pickering is already equipped with a skill-set that makes him more than high school offensive linemen can handle. Mississippi State leads the Crystal Ball currently.

The next five on defense
3. Daxton Hill, S, Tulsa (Okla.) Booker T. Washington – One of the most freakish athletes in the class of 2019, Hill was the fastest man at the event, winning the 40-yard foot-race with a 4.34 time. Hill looked like more than just an athlete though, he showed a ton of range in coverage and was smooth in his backpedal. Alabama, Clemson, Ohio State, Michigan, Oklahoma and Oklahoma State are his favorites.
4. Derek Stingley, CB, Baton Rouge (La.) Dunham School – Another freakish athlete, Stingley ran in the 4.3 range in the 40, had a 42-inch vertical and was probably the days most disruptive defensive back. He got his hands on a lot of footballs and looked like he has the twitch and instincts to be a lock-down cornerback.

Top five on offense
3. Stacey Wilkins, OT, Camden (Ark.) Fairview – From an upside standpoint, Wilkins probably is the best offensive line prospect at the camp. He moves and bends like an athlete. He’s got great length at 6-foot-7 and while he wasn’t perfect, he had some quality wins over the likes of Nana Osafo-Mensah over the course of the day.
Defensive line
There were a lot of defensive linemen that could have made the top five on defense and at the top of that alternates list is McKinnley Jackson and Ishmael Sopsher. Jackson is in the class of 2020 and is already stronger than just about every offensive lineman he battles. Sopsher, a year older and a little bit taller, is similar. Neither uses a flurry of pass-rush moves but rather just brute strength and great feet. LSU is the early favorite for both.

Linebacker
Four-star linebacker Derick Hall out of Mississippi is an athletic freak show. He was one of the most impressive prospects regardless of position at the entire event and he tested really well. He’s got some hip stiffness in coverage and in space but when the pass-rush drills kicked off he dominated. He also earned an invite to The Opening Finals.
Defensive back
In a loaded camp of defensive backs Jeffery Carter’s size, speed and instincts make him one of the safer bets at the event. Texas A&M, Oklahoma and Oregon are among his leaders.

If you saw highlights of West Monroe vs BTW OK, this is the kid that catches Slade at the goal line. He can fly.
