Alabama should expect a top D-line target to commit in coming days

DJ Dale is one of Alabama's top 2019 DL targets.
quote:

Alabama finished seventh in the 2018 class recruiting rankings, but expect the Crimson Tide to be back on top in 2019. SEC Country’s Chris Kirschner will answer the Recruiting Question of the Day each weekday. You can ask him your questions on  Twitter or on  Facebook. Find our previous questions and answers  here.

When do you expect DJ Dale to Commit? @sas4ua17

I thought  DJ Dale, a 4-star defensive tackle from Clay-Chalkville High School (Pinson, Ala.), was going to commit to Alabama when he was in Tuscaloosa for A-Day. I spoke with 4-star linebacker commit King Mwikuta who told me the same thing. Mwikuta was heavily recruiting Dale that day.

“I want him badly,” Mwikuta told SEC Country. “And he plays on the interior [defensive line]? Man, I want him. [Five-star Alabama tackle commit] Pierce [Quick] and I were talking to him. We’re going to get that done. I thought he committed on Saturday.”

That brings us to Quick. Quick and 4-star quarterback Paul Tyson have been very vocal on Twitter when it comes to recruiting. Both of them tweeted that good news was on the horizon for the Tide.

That tweet could allude to 4-star linebacker Kevin Harris, who is set to announce his commitment on Tuesday night. But I asked Harris if he knew Quick and Tyson well and he said no. They do know Dale well, and he’s the likeliest candidate other than Harris to commit any day now.

I expect Dale to make his decision by the end of the week, and he should be committing to the Tide when he does go public with his decision.

This is going to get engulfed by the Kevin Harris commit but this is awesome. Alabama 5 star recruits are selected in the 1st round 48.3% of the time. The rest of College Football's 5 star recruits are selected in the 1st round 17% of the time. Damn.

Someone take this to tRant - either now or next time a “bust” conversation kicks up. I’m driving or I’d do it.

Nothing little about that. Probably the biggest draw to any program along with winning titles which we also do.

LINK ]Breaking: Top100 edge rusher Harris commits to Alabama (BamaOnLine)

quote:

And then they were one … again.

Four-star linebacker Kevin Harris gave a verbal commitment to the Crimson Tide on Tuesday afternoon, vaulting the program back atop the 247Sports Composite Team Recruiting Rankings after a brief appearance in the one spot a little over a week ago.

The Loganville (Ga.) Grayson product opted for Alabama over Miami and LSU during a ceremony with his fellow Grayson teammates. "Just me thinking about stuff long-term," Harris said of why he chose the Tide. "This is going to be the first big decision in my life and I want to make a grown man decision to never settle."

Harris’ recruitment has been something to cover over the course of the last month. LSU seemed to hold an advantage in the early parts of April before UA hosted him on an unofficial visit and gained the momentum. A late official visit to Coral Gables made the Hurricanes a popular pick, but in the end it was the Tide that secured a commitment from the elite edge rusher after getting the four-star ‘backer back on campus following his visit to Miami. Harris told the Tide staff of his intentions a couple of days ago.

"The culture, I like what they have there," Harris said. "It's kind of similar to my school. We keep everything the same way, we don't have to get all fancy or nothing. We practice and play like we're No. 1. That's how it is at Bama. Just the work ethic and everything, the coaching staff, it's everything that I need to take it to the next level."

Alabama defensive coordinator Tosh Lupoi recruits Harris, who projects as a Jack linebacker (hybrid defensive end/outside linebacker). Along with now Harris, Lupoi, one of the Tide’s top recruiters has helped land Amari Kight, Taulia Tagovailoa, and King Mwikuta thus far in the 2019 cycle.

Asked if it's a relief to have the recruiting process out of the way ... "I don't really like the recruiting process that much," Harris said. "I guess a little bit of the weight is gone, but I still have to work hard."

At 6-foot-3, 218 pounds, Harris is rated the No. 6 weak-side defensive end and the No. 86 overall player in the country, according to the industry-generated 247Sports Composite Rankings. At the time of his pledge, the 247Sports Crystal Ball read in heavy favor of the Tide.

Harris joins Alabama’s class at a momentous time. He is the eighth commitment (11th overall) to join the fold since the beginning of April, and the second to commit since Sunday night when four-star offensive tackle Amari Kight joined the class. Alabama’s current class has a score of 226.16. For comparison, the Tide’s 2017 No. 1-ranked class finished with a score of 323.87.

Harris isn’t the only edge rusher in the class already as he joins four-star ‘backer King Mwikuta. Don’t expect him to be the last, either.
