If true then why do so many outside of their circle know they are silent if they do not want them to know. I doubt Saban calls up these so called insiders and say hey guys here is the scoop so and so is a silent but please do not tell anyone.

Barton Simmons on Alabama commits/targets that performed at the Elite 11 camp in Nashville yesterday:

quote:

Pierce Quick - I had him as one of my top performers from the camp. He seems to have gotten bigger and more physical since the last time I saw him last spring. He looks like an enforcer now. Good weight, good length. He played some guard and tackle and honestly he looked better at guard. When he gets his hands on a DL it's game over. He's a little less comfortable when there's space involved but engaged, the dude is a finisher and seems to love contact.

Tanner Bowles - I didn't get a chance to see many of his reps today but I can say this much, he's a "who is THAT?" kind of kid walking in the door. He was probably the most impressive looking offensive lineman there in terms of mass and just being well put together. Nothing sloppy about this dude and he moved well athletically during drills.

Amari Kight - I know he's not a commit but as a target, if you add him to this offensive line class, it's starting to look like one of the best in the country. Kight isn't as physical right now as Quick and I couldn't tell from camp whether he's got that mean streak but from a size and athleticism standpoint, he's got as high of a ceiling as anyone in the camp. He played center and tackle and looked really athletic and has a really impressive frame.

Taulia Tagovailoa - Taulia worked out in Nashville and it was a driving rain storm all day so it was a bad setting for QBs. THis was the 2nd time I'd seen Taulia this spring and honestly, i thought he looked better despite the rain than he did earlier this spring when i saw him in freezing cold in Atlanta. I respect that he went out in both of those nasty settings and put in the work. He's what he looks like on film. He's crisp, accurate, spins it consistently and has a pretty big arm. He's not Tua though. I think that's important to remember but he is really steady.

Paul Tyson - He's one of the few quarterbacks in this class that looks like a prototype. He's 6-4. He's 215. He showed a big arm but not necessarily jaw-dropping in that rainy setting. I came away still wanting to see more. I think Tyson could potentially have as high of a ceiling as any quarterback in this class but I think he's still very much in the early stages of his development. As a bigger guy, he's got more to get organized but he looks fluid enough athletically to really develop quickly and be a big time guy.

When a kid silent commits he may whisper about it to a few people. If 1 or 2 of them then do the same, it can spread around pretty quickly. Some kids give clues too; e.g., Jayson Jones sort of tipped his cards by tweeting (while at UA) he might commit sooner than July 4th. He then tweeted Sunday morning that he'd wait until July 4th to announce.

Taulia, Tyson and Nix have committed, and it's good news for Alabama and Auburn

quote:

There was no drama. No hat dancing. No ESPN cameras.

Alabama's 2019 recruiting class features three of the nation's top quarterback prospects, Pinson Valley's Bo Nix, Hewitt-Trussville's Paul Tyson and Thompson's Taulia Tagovailoa. All are now committed.

As the calendar turned from 2018 to 2019, the state's No. 1 recruiting story centered on one simple question: What will the quarterbacks do?

Now we know after Tagovailoa's surprise commitment Saturday.

Nix got us started in January when he committed to Auburn. as everyone expected, sending him to the same school where his father and Pinson Valley head coach, Pat Nix, played.

Then, just two weeks ago, Tyson picked Alabama in a similarly expected decision. The rising senior at Hewitt-Trussville is legendary coach Paul "Bear" Bryant's great-grandson, lest anyone forget.

That left Tagovailoa, the wildcard. He didn't grow up in the Deep South, surrounded by diehard Alabama and Auburn fans. He arrived last summer after his family moved from Hawaii to be closer to his older brother, Alabama quarterback and national-championship game hero Tua Tagovailoa.

Again, when he revealed his Alabama commitment Saturday outside the Bryant-Denny Stadium before A-Day, it was no huge surprise.

You'd think he'd want to play with his brother, especially with the family parked just down the road.

Just like that, Alabama's best recruiting mystery in recent history had been solved, and none of the three held a fan base hostage for a tension-filled signing day reveal.

The quarterback commitments showcase just how much the recruiting landscape has changed, compared to 20 years ago, especially with quarterbacks.

Schools realize quarterbacks so-often become the face of the team, carrying immense leadership responsibilities. Coaches want to identify those players as soon as possible, which means watching 13- and 14-year-olds in summer camps and projecting how good they'll be.

The days of waiting until a player's senior high school season before making a final decision on a scholarship offer are long-gone. If you're a quarterback and you don't have a major offer before your junior season starts, it's very difficult to get on a Power 5 school's radar.

That's just today's reality.

There's also intense competition to land top-rated quarterbacks. Taulia, Tyson and Nix are all 4-star prospects and don't be surprised if at least one adds a fifth star before the 2018 season ends.

But having all three committed four months before the 2018 season kicks off was unexpected. All three said little about their recruitment. Perhaps that was calculated, perhaps happenstance.

With the three 2019 quarterback stars committed, what does that mean for the 2018 high school season? How or will it impact the action this fall?

For Tagovailoa and Tyson, will having Alabama commit attached to their names provide pressure to perform? How will they handle fans' inevitable comparisons of the two throughout the 2018 season? Ditto for Nix.

Or, will having recruiting out of the way make it easier for the quarterbacks to concentrate on football instead of juggling recruiting, school and the 2018 season?

Recruiting can be distracting, everyone agrees on that point, and these quarterbacks carry big burdens for their high school teams.

Is it possible that one of these quarterbacks flips his commitment to another school? Anything is possible.

Just because a teen commits to a school, it doesn't mean others stop recruiting him. Quite the contrary. Rivals sometimes recruit even harder for a flip than for an initial commitment.

But chances are all three 2019 quarterbacks are done. Nix will be at Auburn, with Tyson and Taulia in Tuscaloosa beginning in January.

These three seem set, barring something unexpected like a head coaching change at Alabama or Auburn.

Spring practice gets going this week for most of Alabama's high schools, the first real step toward the 2018 Super Seven championship games in Auburn.

Can Nix lead Pinson Valley to a second straight Class 6A state championship? Can Tyson or Taulia knock Hoover off the mountaintop and capture a 7A title?

That's the next quest for these quarterbacks. Buckle up.

Elite 11 Nashville: Top performers

quote:

NASHVILLE, Tenn. – In an Elite 11 Regional event that separated the guys that really love ball from the rest, a driving rain storm didn’t slow several of the nation’s best players. Others struggled or tapped out altogether in the nasty conditions. These were the day’s top performers.

Alpha Dog

Quarterbacks had the toughest job of all on Sunday, throwing a water-logged heavy football and taking more reps than any other position, but every time I saw Buford (Ga.) Lanier quarterback Zach Calzada, he seemed to be in total command. Calzada cut through the rain, spinning the ball effectively and showing really consistent accuracy all day. He recently landed an offer from N.C. State, his first Power Five offer, but Calzada looks capable of landing many more.

Next five offense

1.Doug Nester, OT, Huntington (W.V.) Spring Valley – The Ohio State commit is a massive, wide-bodied offensive lineman and as part of a really good OL group, Nester was one of the most consistent both as a tackle and a guard.

2.Pierce Quick, OT, Trussville (Ala.) Hewitt-Trussville – Quick has really filled out over the last year and looks like a prototypical offensive tackle. He’s very good and dominated when engaged, particularly at guard. The Alabama commit was not as good in space and his pass set is still a work in progress but his win reps were among the most impressive.

3.Jalen St. John, OT, Saint Louis (Mo.) Trinity Catholic – A class of 2020 prospect with offers from Illinois, Iowa State, Kansas and Missouri, St. John looked extremely polished and efficient in pass protection. A wide-bodied lineman right now, St. John could project to guard but he appears to have the feet for tackle.

4. Maurice Massey, WR, Saint Charles (Mo.) Francis Howell North – An Iowa State commit, Massey won the wide receiver MVP award with a complete day in which he showcased crisp route-running ability and a tough size matchup.

5. George Pickens, WR, Hoover (Ala.) HS – Pickens attended the Nashville Elite 11 regional after already being one of the top receivers at the Atlanta event. He had one of the day’s best showings once again. In terms of frame, nobody was more impressive than Pickens and then the Auburn commit went out and had some of the most flash plays of any receiver.

Top five on defense

1. KJ Wallace, CB, Atlanta (Ga.) Lovett School – Through drills and into one-on-ones, Wallace was the best DB of the day. He was all business, never let the weather slow him down, showed good hips through drills and has a thick physical frame. Wallace is committed to Notre Dame.

2 Joseph Anderson, DL, Murfreesboro (Tenn.) Siegel – Anderson won the D-line MVP award with a great effort on the day. He’s versatile enough to line up on the edge and be an interior guy and he’s got the frame to continue to add good weight on the next level. South Carolina and Notre Dame appear to be the favorites.

3. Corey Suttle, DL, Jefferson City (Mo.) HS – Suttle was another versatile defensive lineman that showed some of the best suddenness at the event. He had some great battles with some big name prospects and won his fair share. His only FBS offers are Iowa State and Wyoming.

4. Woodi Washington, CB, Murfreesboro (Tenn.) Oakland – Washington is a springy, high cut defender that has some natural athleticism and bounce. He’s got a who’s who offer list and he asserted himself as one of the most complete defenders in attendance on Sunday.

5. Jacob Lacey, DT, Bowling Green (Ky.) South Warren – Lacey wins with power and quickness. At around 6-2, Lacey doesn’t have an overwhelming physical presence but the Notre Dame commit isn’t hard to find on the field because he seems to operate a different speed than most defensive tackles.

It was not a reference to any specific recruit. I just call BS on most of these silent commits. So called insiders claim we have them, will list their names, and when it does not work out are really quick to back track with some excuse.

Do I believe there are silents yes and the staff may know of them but for the insiders who claim to know my guess is less then 1% of them have any clue. Either way I find it more entertaining because until they sign as far as I am concerned they are not really committed.

Takeaways: QBs battle, DL duo shines at Charlotte 3 Stripe Camp

quote:

THREE AT THE TOP FOR 2019 NO. 1 QUAVARIS CROUCH

For the first time in his recruitment, Rivals100 No. 1 prospect Quavaris Crouch named a short list, consisting of South Carolina, Tennessee and Florida State. That list isn’t set in stone, as he said, but those three programs are doing the best with him right now.

Crouch’s recent visit to Florida State for the Seminoles' spring game made a major impact on him, and his friendship with Rivals250 FSU quarterback commit Sam Howell could pay dividends for Willie Taggart’s program.

Crouch was quick to mention that South Carolina was recruiting him the hardest and he has a strong relationship with Gamecocks assistant coach Bobby Bentley. The position Crouch will play in college will have a major effect on his recruitment but the distance from home seems like it helps the Gamecocks.

The new coaching staff at Tennessee continues to do a very good job making Crouch feel comfortable and he is watching to see how the team progresses this season.

Michigan is also one of his favorite schools because of his relationships with coaches Pep Hamilton and Jay Harbaugh.

Look for Crouch to take official visits this summer and announce a decision during the season. South Carolina will likely host Crouch this coming Saturday.

Shane Lee ready to join the elite linebacker tradition under Nick Saban at Bama

quote:

Alabama picked up a huge commitment for its 2019 recruiting class late last week when four-star linebacker Shane Lee announced his intentions to head to Alabama.

“Alabama really just showed me everything they had to offer from academics to academic support to facilities to the weight program,” Lee told GN. “I also had a chance to sit down with Coach Saban and that was probably one of the best talks I have had with a college coach.

“Just him talking about his process with his players, bringing speakers in to talk with the team and talking about different ways to improve as a person and not just as a football player; it was really big for me.”

Lee, (6-feet, 253 pounds) from Baltimore St. Francis Academy, is among the top-five inside linebackers in the country and is also considered to be a top-75 overall prospect nationally for the 2019 class.

“I definitely look at it every once in a while, but it’s not something I hang my hat on,” Lee said regarding his high national ranking. “It’s good to be thought of that way, but at the end of the day it’s somebody’s opinion and it’s not something that I’m going to promote.

“To me it’s like, well ok, I’m here, but I can still be better. Even if I was No.1 in every category, I’d still want to improve and get better. There is always room for improvement no matter how I am on any recruiting site.”

Lee says the reality of committiing to play for Nick Saban and Alabama hasn’t fully hit him just yet.

“I don’t think it has yet, but I’m pretty sure it will soon. Slowly, but surely it’s falling into perspective and it is a pretty big deal. It’s a lot to live up to, but I think I’m ready for it.”

As for the type of linebacker Alabama is getting with Lee.

“I can get downhill fast and I would say I’m a pretty smart player,” Lee said. “I’m ok at pass coverage, but I’d like to get better at it.

“I lead and command the defense. Those are some things that help me be the player that I am.”

Now that he is committed to Alabama, Lee was asked if he Is planning on shutting down his recruitment.

“I’m not planning on taking any more visits or anything like that because I’m happy with the decision that I made.”

Lee had this message for the Alabama fan base.

“Alabama football isn’t slowing down anytime soon and there will be a lot of fun to be had in the future. ‘Roll Tide Roll.’”

Alabama now has nine commitments for its 2019 recruiting class and all nine are ranked among the top-300 overall prospects nationally.

Lee joins four-star cornerback Christian Williams, four-star quarterbacks Paul Tyson and Taulia Tagovailoa, four-star defensive lineman Rashad Cheney, and four-star offensive tackle Tanner Bowles as 2019 commitments that have all committed to Alabama here in the month of April.

Alabama Is A Perfect fit For Dazalin Worsham

quote:

Dazalin Worsham is one of the top wideouts in the 2020 recruiting class and as of Friday, he is verbally committed to Alabama.

Worsham has a total of 22 offers from some of the top schools in the nation, but Alabama is the perfect fit for the Trussville-native.

“After evaluating every school that I was considering, everything at Bama just fit me perfect,” Worsham said. “There wide receivers are my type and it is home.”

Worsham is very quick and makes the most of his speed. He is dangerous in the open field and knows how to create space. His style of play is very similar to Alabama wide outs, DeVonta Smith and Henry Ruggs.

Worsham decided to announce his commitment to the Tide, to get him in great position to learn the Tide’s offense.

“I’ve been thinking about it and the time came, so I now can just focus on Bama and learn their system over the next two years of high school,” Worsham added.

Alabama 2019 commits, Paul Tyson and Pierce Quick, are his teammates, which should only help the tide. Especially, with Tyson being his quarterback.

The Crimson Tide’s program has developed some great players during the Saban era. Worsham hopes that he can develop on and off the field in the same manner.

“I want to be able to get prepared for my life as a man and develop a backup plan,” Worsham added.

Worsham also has big plans on the field.

“On the field, I want to go in and become a freshman All-American,” Worsham said. “I also want to win the Biletnikoff Award and win a couple of National Championships.”

The Tide’s 2020 class has a total of three commits and is off to a great start. Worshmam could step up and become the leader of this class, like his current teammate, Pierce Quick, has done for Alabama’s 2019 recruiting class.

Slade Bolden Is Your Choice

quote:

Touchdown Alabama Magazine ask you which early enrollee you are most excited to see on A-Day and Slade Bolden is the people’s champ.

Poll Results

1. Slade Bolden 217 Votes

2. Skyler Delong 135 Votes

3. Saivion Smith 94 votes

4. Stephon Wynn 47 Votes

Bolden was listed as an ATH when he was recruited and was a 3-Star recruit.

Don’t let that 3-Star ranking fool you, Bolden is an athlete in every sense of the word. This guy was used as a wide out, quarterback and running back during his time in high school. One thing that jumps out about him is his desire to win and that is why he could be a huge surprise for The Crimson Tide.

Bolden was named the Gatorade Player Of The Year for the state of Louisiana as he rushed and passed for over 2000 yards. He also racked up several other accolades during his outstanding senior season.

Nick Saban has been known to experiment with players and Bolden could be one of his best experiments as he has experience playing all over the field. Bolden has now enrolled into the University of Alabama and will suit up for A-Day. He has been seen this Spring working with the defensive back, proving Saban will try to move this guy around to find his perfect fit.

You missed the point. I said don't believe in insiders. They are not aware. Some claim to know about things, but that cannot be proven.

If you think that a recruits commitment automatically becomes public knowledge for everyone you are deluding yourself. There are definitely kids who commit privately and make it public later. I don't believe there are insiders who know about it.

Slylar was a huge disappointment from my seat in the stadium. I arrived after the specialist had their warmups. He never got a punt to turnover and about 50 yards from toe to receiver was his max in addition the height on his kicks doesn't bode well for Bama.

I think he's been gone for a while. We are still in good shape with both Harris' and Dean.
